Peculiar People Day is here to celebrate the leaders of the strange and unusual, those who refuse to succumb to the world's idea of what is normal and sane. They challenge the status quo and utterly rebuke the concept that that which is out of the ordinary is bad. Whether they simply dress in their own style, or have very clear ideas of what is right and normal, Peculiar People Day is their opportunity to shine.

History of Peculiar People Day

Contrary to what you might think, it has never been the normal people who have set the world in motion. Whenever there has come sweeping change, it has always been at the hands of someone who refuses to accept things as they are, they challenge established ideas and overturn conventions that are sometimes thousands of years old. They seek the horizon of every field to determine what's there, and bring joy to life by breaking out of the concepts that define a normal and healthy life'.

The people Peculiar People Day was designed to celebrate are those who are just a little out of sync with everyone else. Maybe they have a particularly strange style of speaking, or an antiquated style of dress, maybe they live a modern life like they're part of an era ages past. They could be cosplayers or part of the Steampunk Fandom, maybe they play unusual instruments or practice an odd religion (Pastafarianism anyone?). Whatever the case, Peculiar People Day was made for them.

Houseplants are a wonderful addition to any home, adding the fresh scent of living earth, the subtle fragrance of your favorite flowers, or just a bit of the outdoors in the indoors. While some people have difficulty being able to sustain these little treasures, it has been shown to be incredibly therapeutic to have this blush of the natural world inside your home.

History of Houseplant Appreciation Day

Houseplant Appreciation Day was established by The Gardener's Network, establishing an official opportunity to remind people of the benefits of houseplants. Often with the holiday's fading into the past, our homes lose some of their beauty and joy. This makes Houseplant Appreciation Day the perfect opportunity to brighten up the home with the sharp splash of green of a living plant. There are so many things that houseplants can help with when it comes to enhancing your life. Aloe Vera grows quite well indoors, and is perfect for minor cuts and bruises, helping to moisturize skin, and healing minor burns. A small herb garden in your window sill can bring the delicious taste of fresh herbs to your meals, while catnip can make your cats happy. Though you may want to grow those someplace they can't get to them.

How to Celebrate Houseplant Appreciation day

Houseplant appreciation day is all about bringing the joy and pleasure of the Houseplant into your home. Whether you decide to start growing a small group of flowering plants for their color and fragrance, or a small herb garden to enhance your kitchen, Houseplant Appreciation Day is your chance to really brighten up your home. If you've got a brown thumb, then try some of the plants that require very little attention. Aloe Vera is very forgiving as it's a desert plant, it will actually prefer an environment where you DON'T water it too often.

This low-maintenance plant is therefore perfect for beginners. If you prefer something a bit more in the realm of vinery, spider plants are perfect. No, they don't have anything to do with spiders, they just have long thing vines and delicate leaves that are somewhat reminiscent. For the ambitious gardener, you can dive into creating a small window garden full of beautiful flowers and deliciously savory herbs. They do require a bit more effort than the Aloe Vera or spider plants, but they give you wonderful rewards for everything you put in. Household Appreciation Day is finally time to celebrate all the little nooks and crannies in your home, by filling them with plants!

History of Cut Your Energy Costs Day

Heating costs have been an issue as long as there were methods of heating that could cost you to maintain. Once we moved into cities, this has always been a concern, at first it was importing wood and coal for the fireplace and furnace, and eventually moved into paying the local utility for gas and oil costs, and in the most modern age, electricity.

Cut Your Energy Costs Day isn't just about heating, but heating costs (and cooling!) are some of the most expensive bills we can pay throughout the year. First established by the CEEA, (Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance) there isn't a place in the world where the concerns raised by this day aren't relevant. If you're trying to make your year a little more tolerable in the costs department, then Cut Your Energy Costs Day is a great place to start.
