Chapter Eight
Priya sank to the floor leaning against the wall, tears poured out as she saw her number as it appeared on the phone screen. She had instinctively just dialed her number by pressing the keys on the dial pad but as her phone rang in the corridor, her picture with happy tears from the time when she had received the news that her father had pulled through after getting the necessary treatment appeared on the screen. As she scrolled through the pics, except for a few pics of his siblings, every other picture was of hers. some were from these past eight months and others from the time she was at Kapoor Industries, there were even a few of her sleeping on the chair besides him from the first time she had helped him. Does this mean that Ram was there helping her all the time when she had thought he didn't care? Now the flashback of all the moments where things were miraculously falling into place despite her having no resources played in her head. Did he cover the hospital charges too?
Her mind was in a tizzy ...all this time ...all this time..she had misunderstood him..and the depth of his love for her! If he wanted to, she would have easily succumbed to his wishes. She would have even agreed to a live in relationship with him, going against her morals. She was addicted to him and it was very evident...yet he let her walk away. All the times, she felt lonely and heartbroken..he was there to soothe her aches away yet never took the credit for it. Now he is here...admitting and acknowledging that he was afraid before but he wants to face his inner demons and wants to be with her, against all odds. In her own ego...what is she doing?...just pushing him away...and why?...because she has been refusing to see past her heartache.
Priya's head was still reeling with all these thoughts, while Ram grabbed her phone from the corridor. He walked towards her, hoping that she had not noticed anything. Priya had gotten up and wiped her tears away by the time. Handing over her phone to her, " thankfully it's in one piece..not even a scratch despite dropping on the hard surface!" he nervously stated. Priya stood stoically. He looked at her for awhile, " ummm...I should leave now! " you take care!
He turned to leave when Priya called out " Aren't you gonna take your phone with you?"
With a nervous chuckle he turned to grab the phone out of her hand, " oh yeah! Thanks!" Was all he could blurt out
He reached out his hand to grab the phone out of her extended hand, when she pulled away the phone from his reach and just glared at him. An array of emotions were flashing in her expressions and he couldn't make out what was going on.
"So you are gonna give up on ME...US...just like that?...if I say walk away and I never wanna see you again...you are fine with doing that?" Ram was taken aback with her questions. He stayed quiet.
" you did find someone special ...right?"
" how long has this been going on?" She questioned crossing her arms on her chest
Confused Ram questioned back, " what do you mean?"
" I want straight answers okay...were you the one who asked for me to be sent over when you offered the internship program to my university?"
Ram hesitated then nodded yes
"were you the one who arranged for my father's treatment?"
He simply nodded yes
" Were you the one who sent Shruti out to take me home when I was walking around on the streets listless?"
He nodded in yes again
" were you the one who has miraculously put this flat in my name under the pretense of some insurance which my father doesn't recall ever getting?"
He nodded again
To his shock, Priya pushed him until he braced himself against a wall "you...How dare you...how dare you Ram! " tumne mera dimaag kharab karke rakh diya hai( my favorite dialogue from KTBM:)" I can't differentiate between right and wrong anymore...I don't know which one to listen to...my heart or my head!" She was angry
" how dare you say that you love me and yet you treated me this way...I didn't need your money...all I needed was you!"
" all I needed was for you to hold me and say that Priya I am with you...
" I could move freaking mountains only if I hadn't felt so lonely and heartbroken... "she scoffed
" so typical of the Ram Kapoor to flash his money and try to make all okay...well let me tell you money doesn't replace the comfort I would have felt in your arms or your reassuring words"
She stared into his eyes while tears rolled out of hers, she glided her fingers into his hair at the back of his neck "When...when are you gonna learn to express and claim what's yours before it's too late?" She nudged him for an answer
Ram who had been quietly listening to her,now knew that it was a battle worth fighting for.
Wiping her tears, "Priya...aaa!"
" I have been in love with you but this feeling scared me!"
" I never meant to hurt you!" He tried to explain
She shook her head in disagreement, " But you have...!"
" I am so sorry!" Ram begged
Priya traced his jawline with her fingers then cupped his firm jaw in her right hand, looking in his eyes with hers, brimming with tears
" you should be...for letting me blame you left and right...for letting me doubt your love and your intentions!" Priya stated
" what are you saying Priya?" He questioned confused
" Here you are trying to tell me how you genuinely feel for me and I am so overwhelmed with my own pain and hurt that I refuse to see past that she placed her head on his heart and wrapped her arms around him pulling for more warmth and comfort, he held her close while she continued, " please forgive me...in your own ways you have always loved me, beyond the cliched ways of announcing to the whole world you have been there when I needed you..I don't know why I couldn't see that...maybe because I wanted you to need me as much as I needed you but when you didn't stop me, my whole world fell apart. I tried to pick up and get going but every second of every day I felt that a part of me got left behind, seeing you even for a moment infused life in me yet my need for you scared me, reminded me how weak and empty I feel without you."
" I kept blaming you for being a coward but instead, I have been a coward! She sobbed
"Sshhh...calm down...it's okay!" he patted her head and held her closer engulfing her in his warmth as she sobbed
Wiping his own tears, he lifted her chin, " look ...the beauty of our love is that none of us are perfect but these imperfections are what draw us to each other and make us perfect together ...it's still a long and challenging road ahead of us but as long as we stand by each other we can make this a beautiful journey" he convinced
He held her hands in his and knelt down on his knee, kissing her hand, he took out a ring from his coat pocket " so Ms.Priya Sharma.. can I please do what I came here in the first place to do?...will you please do me the honor of becoming my wife..promise to always put me in my right place when I start flying too high, love me unconditionally even when I am testing your patience.." Priya listened to him with bated breath "...and I in return, promise to never look at another woman the way I look at you,...I promise to make love to you everyday till you tell me that you've had enough for that day...and help you with having at least a dozen beautiful kids, he paused and thought for a second then continued ...actually, even though our kids are going to be beautiful, I think four or five should be enough...I want my beautiful wife to get some rest too!"
Priya came out of her trance and smacked him, "wha..at ...what the heck Priya... Ram yelped " okay I have to put this in our wedding vows that you will not physically or verbally abuse me!" Priya smacked him more.. "ouch!...the point is ...I want this ...I WANT YOU FOR THIS LIFETIME AND MANY MORE...will you please make me the luckiest man ever!!" Ram proposed
Now Priya was out of words, she was trying to absorb the intensity of his promises.
"Arrey yaar, my knee is starting to hurt...please say yes!" Ram requested
Priya just jumped and hugged him, wrapping her arms around his neck while landing both of them on the floor. Ram was quick enough to catch her and he rolled with her to lessen the impact. Priya didn't bother about the possibility of getting hurt, she just reached for his lips. Ram too couldn't help but relish the feel of her luscious lips moving on his. They kissed as if they had found oasis after a long and hard journey. Their hands moved as frantically as their lips while Priya whispered breathlessly, " I love you Ram...I really really love you! " never ever think of walking away from me...I die a thousand deaths when I have to live without you!" she stated pecking his lips with kisses.
Ram tried to catch his breath too, he kissed her forehead and eyes " Mi corazon late solo por ti! "He claimed. When Priya raised an eyebrow " meaning..."
" My heart beats only for you!" he translated
A blush rose up her cheeks " saachi!"
He kissed her cheeks and nodded " Haan Sachi!" Pulling her in his embrace again
As if a light bulb came on, Priya looked at him while he held her and asked " hey I have been meaning to ask you what is that title under which my phone number is stored under...its something in Spanish too ...right?"
He hesitated and she urged again, " I promise I won't get upset...I noticed that it's been there since we met again at your office...I mean ...we really were not fond of each other then...so it's okay...please tell me naa!!"
Ram gulped loudly and spoke up, " it says ...Mi Salvavidas"
Priya urged again " meaning"
He took a deep breath and explained, " it means... MY LIFELINE"
Priya gasped " you mean to say that you too have been in love with me since we first met?!!!"
He simply nodded in a yes!

Dear friends, thank you for all the love and encouragement for my stories so far. Even though, I am done with this story, I somehow feel obligated to do an Epilogue to give it that finished feel from my side so as bonus I will be adding an Epilogue in a few days.
