Chapter Seven

When the shadow lept out and covered her mouth, Priya's years of training in martial arts ( her father had made her take self defense classes at a very young age) kicked in, with quick reflexes she punched and attacked the violator. Even though, she couldn't see his face in the dim light, she knew that he was knocked down. Shaking she tried to regain some composure, the only thing she could make out about this stranger was that he was fairly taller than her and had a muscular build but the odd part was that he didn't put up any fight...or maybe...he didn't have a chance due to her quick reflexes! But why did he target her? Her senses being numb from the incidence of seeing Ram again, she had let her guard down...usually she was pretty aware of her surroundings. She heard him moaning on the floor, now what??..I should call the police...she thought.

Trembling she sat down to collect all the contents that had scattered all over from her purse, mainly looking for her cell phone. To her dismay, it was nowhere to be found. She had to act fast before he was able to gain his strength back, she didn't know if she could handle him again...she was feeling drained. He probably needed some medical attention as well, being her she couldn't let him be...she was about to drag him into more light that's when she recognized the watch on his wrist and screamed, " oh Nooo! What have I done!!!!"

He slowly opened his eyes adjusting to the light in the room. Wincing in pain, he tried to sit up. Almost immediately he found his attacker right by his side helping him up.

" what the hell...Priya...you are one vicious women!!" He yelped "you near about killed me!!"

Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth she retorted, " ..and you so deserve that kind of death!!"

" wha...at! How can you talk like that!" He sulked

"What do you want?" Priya asked coldly

"The same thing I've always wanted...YOU" he retorted

In that moment, she forgot to breathe...with him uttering the words that had the power to break her resolve, it sucked all of the oxygen out of the room.

Priya don't get sucked into his charming ways, she condoned herself. Shaking her head for some clarity, she questioned with a serious tone

" For one, why did you follow me?

If you did, why did you have have to attack me from the back?"

And mainly, don't you get it Ram...it's over between us ...and No...I cannot and will not be friends with you anymore!"

She got up from his side and picked up his coat from the chair, putting it in front of him she said, " I think that you should leave now...I will call a taxi for you"

Limping Ram got out of bed and took his coat from her. Shocked at her cold behavior, Ram asked " why Priya ?? I followed you all this way because I need to talk you"

" Mr. Kapoor I am not your therapist!" Priya retorted

" I cannot keep letting you walk in and out of my life as you please...one minute you need me and next you don't" " I used to be a very dignified person who took pride in her ways but you keep shattering that pride. I don't deserve that you know...but because of this stupid heart of mine I keep falling into this vicious cycle"

He raised his eyebrows questioning, " what are you talking about?"

She took a deep breath, " DAMMIT...Can't you see that I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU!"

A gasp escaped his lips at this revelation, he whispered "Priya..aa"

" stop Ram! It's okay ...I know that you don't feel the same way about me ...and you know what it's perfectly fine...you don't have to feel obligated to reciprocate!"

Hiding his joy, he went to her and held her by her shoulders, " then why are you telling me all this?"

" because I need to ...I need to get it out there and let you know at least once that I am and have been in love with you"

She scoffed " I don't know why but I had to tell you...there you have it ...it's out ...Priya Sharma is in love with The Ram Kapoor" sniffling she held the door open for him, " now please leave and never come back...I wish you the very best ...you will find another person to listen to your problems..trust me you will be fine!"

" No I won't be.." he insisted closing the door

" I need you" he insisted

Holding the lapels of his shirt tightly she shook him and looking into his eyes, she said " try and understand Ram I can't do this anymore..." she sobbed into his chest.

Lifting her chin up with fingers, he wiped her tears and stated, " Not even if I tell you that I LOVE YOU TOO!"

Pushing him away, Priya remarked "No...you don't!" " I don't need your pity love.."

He held her wrists and steadied her against the wall next to the door, looking at her while she gazed down at the floor he convinced "Trust me when I say that you are soul to my body, vision for my eyes, air for my lungs...I have been fighting a battle within to not fall in love with the most unusual Suspect that I had ever encountered"

" that day when you stumbled into that elevator and into my arms ...little did I know, that instead of me, you were the one who would bring balance into my life!"

Tucking the wayward strand of hair behind her ear, he cupped her face between his palms and kissed her forehead, " I have been a coward Priya running from what I felt for you,probably since the day you stumbled into my life.

You're so beautiful and unforgettable...so refreshingly different and despite my attempts to stay away, you got under my skin. My feelings for you scared me at first...I didn't want to hurt you in any way...and unfortunately that's what I did" his voice was hoarse.

His thumb smoothened underneath her eyes, wiping away the tears that were falling openly now, " Priya, you were the only person who saw the ugly and flawed part of me and still thought that I was worthy of you...somewhere that much trust I felt I didn't deserve that ." His eyelashes lowered, shielding his eyes.

For a beat, maybe two, he was quiet. " please don't give up on me now...please...I have realized how much I need you..if you can give me a chance, I'll spend everyday proving to you how much I love you,with everything I have, will you please let me?" He pleaded

Priya inhaled deeply, temporarily paralyzed as she tried to fight the strange butterfly sensation in the pit of her stomach. He circled his thumb feeling the contour of her lips, licking his as he hovered over hers, gulping hard to keep the sensual tension between them in check.

" Ram ..it's too late now...you can't have me" Priya whispered. " I am to marry someone soon"

" who are you to decide that?" He spoke authoritatively

" you are mine...mine only ...you hear that" he breathed hard against her skin

" I have tried living without you..do you have any f***ing idea how lost I feel without you! " he admitted

" and you claim to know me inside out then why couldn't you see through my charade that day...couldn't you see that I was scared that's why I was using Esha to drive you away...why do you have to act so mahaan(sacrificing) all the time...couldn't you tell me that you loved me" he complained

" We are destined to be together...you can fight it all you want but I am not giving up on us and I will wait for as long as it takes for you to realize that too." Ram said with determination. "After the mental fog that I was in cleared, I have realized that we have a soulful connection, that Raabta that it takes many, probably...a few rebirths to find...and I am gonna make sure that you marry me! I need all the lifetimes God will give us to love you" he stated with conviction.

Priya looked at him absorbing his words, the sincerity behind them, her eyes meeting his, while she still held his collar...tears poured out, "Ram, I should be ecstatic right now,hearing what I have longed to hear...all I wanted was to let you know how much I love you ...never did I fathom that you loved me too ..." she paused "if only you had just not taken this long, I would have fought every battle with you, standing next to you..." he interrupted

"Then give me ...us ...a chance" Priya lowered her eyes, She shook her head trying to look for the right words, she wasn't sure that Ram loved her ...was he just saying this so she continued to be a part of his life without knowing that she was not in for another fling with him for a few months or a few years. Will he be able to fight his inner demons and commit the only way she knew ...together through thick and thin till death do them apart? Her heart was telling her to take a chance ...but hadn't she listened to it before and look what it had got her into!!

" kya soch rahi ho?" Ram questioned

When she didn't answer and kept her eyes lowered, he let go of her shoulders, turning away from her, he grabbed his coat, " I have been selfish my entire life but...I won't impose on you anymore...just remember I will always love you but I also want you to be happy...so we will close this chapter of ours right now...I promise you that you will never find me interfering in your life ever again!" He stated in a choked up voice

Just then Priya's phone rang in a distance, she opened the door and looked around the dark corridor for any trace of it. It had stopped ringing...gathering herself, she wiped her tears and spoke " ummm...before you go ...can you please help me find my phone..I dropped it in the corridor earlier?"

He nodded in affirmation

" can I have your phone please...I will give mine a ring if you can help me look for it?" She suggested

Ram immediately pulled his phone away from her hand, " No...I will give it a ring!" Priya found his behavior rather odd. Flashback of the last two times she had asked him for his phone played vividly in her head. Both times were right after she had come to collaborate with Kapoor industries, she had misplaced her phone under her stuff so she had asked to borrow his to give it a ring and both times he had acted like there was some secretive information on it that he didn't want anyone to see. At that time she didn't bother to pry further but now she was more than curious. Even though she was asking him to walk away from her, she wanted to know if there was someone else ( her heart was sinking even at the thought of this), without giving it any further thought she grabbed his phone out of his hand and dialed her number while going over pics and info stored. What appeared on the screen literally left her gasping for air,Tears rolled out like never before!
