The ideology that criticizing a show is a waste of time OR that if something seen on TV is bothersome, it should just be ignored and the channel should be changed.. THIS ideology that is so prevalent on IF is what baffled ME. Why is it that any criticism is considered as a waste of time? That if someone dares to say "Hey, this seems off! This is why I can't entirely enjoy this show!" the majority in the IF community retort with "Then don't watch it!"???! Are these really the ONLY options left? That a person can either watch it AND love a show OR they should just not bother with it at all? Why is it that we can't a person watch something, be critically unimpressed by it and then be ALLOWED to say the same?

My take :

Watching it is fine Fivr... I watch some serials sometimes which I don't like just for the heck of it... but to watch a serial REGULARLY where I feel that the hero is abnormal and then SPEND SO MUCH TIME COMMENTING ON IT... Sorry, I don't agree!!!!

Of course, all of us here ALSO criticise BAHL.. look at our posts...we criticise Ram off and on... but to attack the very basics of the show and come up with comments like ...

Rich people whilst travelling are used to seeing naked women !!!

I guess this is THE specific sentence which pissed everyone off who've written here.

Without that one sentence, I doubt if so many people would have written on this topic...which is again why I'd commented that the writer probably has a good sense of humor and wanted to provoke a controvery

and
Ram being abnormal because he covered Priya next morning after red nightie scene...

I guess these are the specific 2 sentences which pissed everyone off who've written here.

You could watch a show regularly and still be annoyed by something that's being portrayed in the show - that is absolutely possible. And I don't think there is anything wrong with criticizing the basis of a show that you watch - it happens, it can happen. It doesn't make it unacceptable. It simply means that what was promised and what was delivered wasn't the same thing! And if someone wants to say that - that's fine! That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be watching a show.. They can watch the show, disagree with some key points in the show but still be entertained by the rest. That HAPPENS. 😕

The only thing that's happened here though, I feel, is the fact that in this case, the key criticism concerns Ram and Priya's character development which fans are finding hard to reconcile with. The criticism is probably based on the fact that what was promised of Ram-Priya and what they ended up being were two different things. That doesn't mean what they are now can't be entertaining for some people, but just that the same people can also find some grievances regarding the same. And I don't think that's so unacceptable or unfathomable at all. It's just their opinion and their prerogative.

Also, I am confident that the two comments in question here are being taken out of context. If we were to read the original post in entirety, I know that they go on to explain their statements. Now whether you agree with them or not, that's a whole other thing but I know they weren't generalizing as all rich men seeing "naked" women - they were hinting at how with the prevelance of nudity in society these days, it's hard to walk a mile without seeing someone dressed in something inappropriate to conservative sensibilities. And that RK being a businessmen who traveled around the world MUST have seen scantily dressed women so he should be more immune to it (not that I agree or disagree with this point - it's just what the member seems to be trying to say). And I'm sure they were trying to make a similar point with the covering-up-scene in question. I think we just need to be analytical about a post and really read it IN CONTEXT. Instead of just picking out key statements and getting upset by it. 😕

It's just a fiction. And as some other forum members think has a lot of loose ends and bad scripts. I apologize Malini that I couldn't reply to your post. But I had taken a vow not to visit the forum till morning(got to cut down my obsession on BALH forum :(() but looks like I might be late since there is overflowing of posts there and lots of fellow members who have replied beautifully! So back to the reason why I made the post
1) Ram and Sakshi : I have been in love with these two ever since they entered Tele Industry. And as Jai walia, Ram swept me and I haven't still recovered from that. Sakshi as Parvati(the ideal bahu) has portrayed the character flawlessly and carved a special place in my heart. When these two dynamites combine. there is no way Iam not gonna miss it. And so does a whole lot of Indian population or NRI population who have been exposed to a crackling chemistry of the leads who have teamed up for the first time together!!
2) Different yet Realistic : It's a mature love story. 40+ business man and 30+ prof getting into a deal or compromised arrange marriage for the sake of their families. When people at that age who love their families and have shouldered responsbilities from an early age for the whole family, it is realistic. Priya being heart broken thanks to Ashwin and Ram being misguided abt his Mom(therefore having made his views on women and marriage) have their independence and individuality strongly carved. No place for love in their lives until they get to know each other in their relationship. Fair and square. Priya has always been a guiding light and involved with her family. Ram was always independent and men never like interference in their space(Married for 9 years and trust me on that). The only person who he would turn to in his life, the counsellor and best friend: Vikram.
It was hard even for me to defend Ram's shouting but it was a lil OTT
but guess all those years of loneliness had the effect apart from the
his view on marriage hasn't helped it a bit.
3) TRACKS : AWWW and HAWWW:
The wedding was prolonged but was worth the wait. They were gorgeous and the episode was epic. The promo(Karate) was soo cutely executed.
The HAAR Track was resolved beautifully and was the stepping stone in their relationship. AWW track for sure..
Ashwin's track was long and tested our patience. But that ONE SLAP did more than justice.. MOGAMBO Khush hua ..HE haw Haw..
Yes the Apeeksha track was prolonged. I must have cribbed about it a million times too and the Krishnaji track was too short. Instead of being unhappy, I have my reasons for that. RAYA are too young in their relationship. They have a tough time with even a decent conversation.
And what will happen to Niharika being exposed too early? I want this show to run atleast for 2 years.(Selfish reasons purely) and so lets enjoy the ride. Waise..Niharika has screwed Ram's life for too long and she has to have a suffering that's slow and painful..(Her character has really made me sadist:( )
I hope I have justified myself the reasons for my love for BALH.. It's a FICTION but has entered our lives. Inspite of being married for years, I enjoy the nok jhok.. pretty similar to me and my hubby.
P:s - Btw Malini I forgot to mention the reasoning for them sharing their spouse's bad habits to their BFF's. I do it all the time and I know quite a few of my friends and the 80's generation who do it. BTW, Divorce is a joke these days even in India. You can check the divorce rates in India which has increased drastically from the previous decade. Today's modern woman don't take crap. So giving back word by word to Ram isnot surprising. And Pati patni relationship has moved forward and its ridiculous to say that they do not value marriage as sanctity.
