Psawyer, I like how your titles of these analysis are so spot on. Shirpa won yesterday's episode for me too.

We finally saw that woman, who may not understand her daughter, but atleast gets that her daughter is special. No matter how she scolds her daughter at home, she is always going to stand up for her kid in public.
Loved the Priya-Shirpa scene towards the end. It was the first real sign of mother daughter affection I have seen. I loved how Priya knows how much her mother loves her. Once again, Priya is not an UNLOVED victim, but a person who sometimes does not have the same views as the mother who loves her a lot.
As for the Papa ki prathna dialogue, I think the little exchange that preceded it showed that people do realize that Sudhir, while well meaning, is not an action oriented person. I think someone made a comparision to PnP a few post above? Is anyone also seeing a Mr. Benner(not in the wit but in the general sense of inaction)?

Hey Mahi! Call me Vasu :)

I hadn't thought of Sudhir as a Mr B but now that you mention it - certainly not in wit, but in utter uselessness as a father figure...there are similarities. Mr B was much more caustic about the whole thing and quite often annoyed me with his inaction and his sarky comments. The only thing he had going for him was at least he made some efforts - going to see Bingley (even if only at his wife's insistence) and accurately perceiving Collins' character... but you are right. The similarities are now hard to ignore.

Does that make Ayesha Lydia? Or a combination of the younger three sisters? 😆

Can't we expect some originality from these people?!
Well wait, I take that back, nats is a true original...I never want to meet the person who conceived that character!

@narangi_77: Nats/Nuts is not an original. She is the standard insane spoiled brat who is good for nothing but driving the plot the forward because of her general over reaction to things.. unless they show her as actually suffering from some sort of disorder, she will be the worst written character on the show
@Vasu: After the sweet scene between Ayesha and Priya two episodes ago, I see Ayesha as a Jane rather than a Lydia. She is not loud or inconsiderate. Her only "flaw" seems to be that she is the ostensibly "prettier" sister that her mother pays more attention to and slightly naive.( I actually think ST is prettier or more attractive, anyhow.) She lacks Jane's mature sweetness, but she has her own brand of insight.
Now that I am seeing things from a PnP perspective, I would say in that specific Ayesha-Priya scene, Priya is saying the standard Jane dialogues and Ayesha is the outspoken Lizzy. But generally, its the other way round.

the thing about Shipra is...you can tell she loves her daughter a lot. She does love and care for Priya. She is harsh, but I think she is harsh because she doesnt like hearing others bash about Priya and takes it out on Priya herself, and also because she is tired of Priya rejecting proposals and continuing to let others criticize her. She just is a little two ways, but int he end she loves all her kids.
I actually like Shipra's character a lot..

@avivakirk: Thanks!
Looks like there are a whole bunch of us. I think Vasu mentioned in an earlier post that the treatment, atleast of the romantic relationship, might have pleased Austen. Maybe, we all are attracted to the show for that reason.
That said, I don't think the show is a PnP ripoff. The plot is completely different. And while I see Lizzy and Darcy in Priya and Ram, and the Bennet family in the Sharma family(is Karthik Lydia, then, with his unsuitable marriage? 😆😆) the general concept of pride and prejudice(the nouns) is missing. Priya and Ram, aside from the first meeting, do not have any misunderstanding or misconceptions regarding each other's personality.
What do you think?

Mahi,
Agree. Agree with your comparison of Liz to Priya.Initial episode days Shipra had all the mannerisms of Mrs.Bennet. Remember how she would go gaga over the income of the suitors, loud brash behaviour etc and Shipra too showed her silly behaviour by gushing over Ram's wealth . Jane's character wasa very mellowed one .She was caring too. Initially Ayesha came across as a spoilt and selfish person. Now there's a softening . Ram is no Mr.Darcy! Their personalities are totally different.
This show is a mature love story where one is exposed to the partner's negatives right from the beginning rather than all the gushy emotions of romantic love. The cold pans are being slowly heated up.
