I think something really freaky is going on...for the past few weeks, I have been complaining that I need someone to obsess about Buffy with. And then, BAM - you happened. Hee hee. I know, right? Right place, right time. Must be fate 😉 😆

I know. For me, Ayesha is a far more realistic portrayal of the youngest child of the family than Nuts(which means the show is capable of doing it). She is NOT a foil for her older sister. She is not a rebellious teen, and she is not Shirpa's little plaything. She is Ayesha. Which makes me hate Nuts even more because it means they could have salvaged her character, instead of making her into such a boring, predictable crazy person. So true - she is her own person, and Nuts could have been that and I could have tolerated her nuttiness. But Nuts, Ishika and Niharika all seem like stock figures with no minds of their own - Ishika especially...don't think I've heard more than a sentence from her since the show began. She might as well be a mannequin.

Hey Guys,
This is Janaki, and I'm new to this forum...I haven't watched this show yet, but my friend Lola told me that it's similar to Pride and Prejudice, and I'm a huuuge fan of it!😍 And she also told me that there are BBC P&P fans here, so I came running.😆 How many of you are BBC fans? And could anyone tell me how the story is similar to P&P? I'll def watch it.😉

Hi Janu! Welcome 🤗 I think I've seen your sigs in AS section - you are very talented 👏

Yes, there are a number of Jane Austen/P&P/BBC P&P fans here, incl. me. We all sort of met by accident and the fact that we have all spotted some similarities in BALH and P&P. Maybe we should start a CC or something; I think there are enough of us 😆

As regards to this show - the storyline in general is "inspired" by P&P: the whole, boy-girl meet, misunderstandings/prejudices etc arise, then they learn more about each other etc. But that is, I think, a common theme in many Indian shows and films.

What is more interesting is that the characters of BALH seem to have traces of P&P characters. I think the first thing a lot of people noticed was that Shipra (Priya's mother) had a very Mrs Bennett feel to her...and from there the comparisons have grown - Priya has a bit of Lizzy and a bit of Jane in her. Ram has Darcy-ish traits but as I think we mention somewhere in this post, he is far more relatable and approachable than Darcy: Darcy was not OCD about cleanliness, which Ram is 😆 I think there are some comparisons with Austen's Persuasion as well. As one of my friends Anu has mentioned a few times, BALH is like a Mills and Boon romance 😆 but since all such roads lead back to P&P, we end up there anyway 😆

Good to know you are a BBC P&P fan as well - I think most of us Austen fans here are also BBC version fans; that to me is the only authentic version. I am actually currently re-reading P&P and also re-watching the BBC version. Maybe we can have a nice chat about it sometime 😆 I would say that you should catch up on the last few weeks of BALH. If you are able, do watch from the beginning (though the first week is a little lame, but it helps set things up). The director of the show changed partway through the second week, and things got a whole lot better. If not, you can watch last week's eps as they really set up Ram & Priya's relationship very well, and they will be good to watch before Monday rolls around. 😃

Good to know you are a BBC P&P fan as well - I think most of us Austen fans here are also BBC version fans; that to me is the only authentic version. Agree 100%! I was quite disappointed with the 2005 movie, because none of the actors really fit the characters except perhaps Jane, and the storyline itself was modified beyond recognition. The BBC version is just as if Jane Austen had directed the film, each and every dialogue is straight out of the book and all the actors looked their characters. I can never get tired of watching it or reading the book.😍 I am actually currently re-reading P&P and also re-watching the BBC version. Maybe we can have a nice chat about it sometime 😆 Oh yeah, definitely. I created an FC of sorts in the Book Talk forum, but its sadly empty.😭😆 Would love to bring it back to life!
