Forced Holiday

Starting from today, television producers are on strike. What this means is that you won't get to see any new episodes of your favourite saas bahu sagas for the next one week. But that it also means is that tellywood's overworked stars are enjoying some time off.

Having started from school after a long Diwali vacation, it will now be a study time for the Balika girl Avika Gor who plays Anandi in the show. She will be going to school and attending all her classes regularly this week.
Angad Hasija from Bidaai is on his way to his hometown Chandigarh as he feels this is the best time to spend time with his family. "I am going to Chandigarh for four days, where I'll be spending some quality time with my parents," says the lad.

Pallavi Subhash of Kasam Se too believes that this time is a good opportunity to spend time with family. Along with this she says she has a long list of things to do which she plans to wrap up.

Aastha Chaudhary leaves for Alwar tomorrow. On her way to her hometown, she plans to spend a day in Delhi with her friends and then proceed to her hometown. Excited about the trip she says, "I have a couple of my friends in Delhi so I'll spend a day there. I plan to do a lot of shopping and then from there I'll go to Alwar. My ghar and nani ka ghar too is in Alwar toh sabke saath bahot enjoy karungi."

Romit Raj is already having a great time in Kolkata where he plans to stay for a week.

If not acting, there is something else: Sana Saeed
    by Vidhya Krishnan
    Nov 12, 2008, Bangalore

From playing Anjali of Shah Rukh Khan's little daughter in 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' to playing the naughty young Pooja in 'Lo Ho Gayi Pooja is Ghar Ki', the petite lady, Sana Saeed gets candid with us about acting and more…

    At the moment….
I am doing for 'Lo Ho Gayi Pooja is Ghar Ki'; I play a young nineteen-year-old girl who is passionate about singing and wants to be a great singer someday. Since her parents are against her dream, she runs away from home, has no money and enters a home as a cook for money. She plays a simple Bhatinda girl at the same time she wants to pursue her career. I also play a double role called Natasha. There is a lot of lying and confusion in the drama. The show is full of comedy.

    Acting happened to me…
I started acting when I was three years old. I used to participate in school dramas. Then I was called to do ads and from thereon I did few shows, then 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' happened and I have done some episodic roles too. After that I wanted to concentrate in my studies and gave a pause to acting.

Though I am an actor, I still don't know what I really want to pursue. I am presently doing advance advertising diploma. I want to do something creative; I am yet to decide my future and this stage is too early to say anything.

From playing little Anjali to petite Pooja…
I have fun in everything that I do. I have done ads, soaps, musical shows, episodic roles, and movie. I have learnt that I am not a stuck-up person. I am open to whatever the future holds for me. There is variation in work, it is different and I am testing myself constantly.

    The challenge…
I don't see any challenge; I enjoy my work and it is like a hobby to me. I have been able to mange my studies, acting, and other activities. I am open about my options and I do everything without any much effort from my end. I don't feel that I am in a competitive field; if not acting, I will have something else.

    My kind of roles…
I am open to anything as an actor. I am okay with playing daily soaps but I don't prefer doing saas-bahu at the moment. I am still in college and I feel that I need to play my age and when that age comes; I will obviously play those roles.

    The balancing act…
Since I also have the responsibility of my studies, I make it clear before taking up anything. I would need two days off every week and I would also require to go on leaves, if required, for my presentations and classes. I would make myself clear on all these and only then take up anything; there is no force whatsoever on whosever end; if people are okay with this, I am okay and vice versa. Two days off in a week, is too much to ask for a daily soap but my situation is such and I have to handle it without affecting anything or anybody; I need that comfort level.

    My spare time…
All my free time goes for studies, moreover because my exams are coming up; I also keep busy with my project assignments and presentations. Otherwise I would generally spend my free time with my family, friends, my cat, sister, surfing the net and dancing too

    Small screen vis--vis Big screen…
There is a huge difference as far as the time and space for performance is concerned; the big screen is obviously better in that. In the big screen you have ample time to get the best out of you and make sure every shot is perfect. It is not the case with small screen in the sense that you get to learn your lines a few hours before you perform. There is also a lot of variation in the big screen and you get to do different projects; whereas the small screen gets you really monotonous. I personally would opt for the big screen.

    Daily soaps vis--vis Reality shows…
Reality shows are good fun; they are challenging and teach one to take criticism. I do agree that we have an overdose of these shows if I look at it from the viewers' point of view but it is not the case for a performer; the overdose is a challenge for a performer.
I would definitely like to be a part of some reality show, not comedy because I am quite freaked out with it, I would prefer doing dance.

    On TV, I watch…
I am not a TV person; I just catch up on my shows sometimes and nothing else.

    In the pipeline…
I am just focusing on whatever I am doing right now. I am also quite busy preparing for my board exams and am saying 'NO' to everything that I am offered. I am thinking of going abroad for further studies in the near future but nothing has been really decided

Stars back to work after a long break

The stars have gotten a long break thanks to the strike that started on the 1st of November. And while they had a good time, it's back to work for most now. But after all the relaxing and fun, many are finding it hard getting back into work mode (with extra hours to make up for lost time!) We caught up with a few stars to get their take on getting back to the grind.

Kinshuk Mahajan (Ranbir of Bidaai) :

Kinshuk recently bought a flat in Malad and spent most of his free time doing it up. He though is happy to get back to work and says, "It's great to get back to work after so many days. We used to shoot for 13-14 hours a day before but I'm sure we will have to increase the hours now." When he gets back the first thing he wants to do is show his co-stars how much he missed them. He says, "I'm going to hug all of them! Aur hamare set par jo mandir hai wahaan pray karoonga."

Smita Bansal (Sumitra in Balika) :

Smita is looking forward to working again and the drive home from the studios. She says, "I missed driving from my home to Vasai, where the sets are." Smita thinks that everyone is happy that the strike has come to an end and hopes that the work load won't increase too much. She says, "Considering the strike took place for an official reason I don't think our workload will increase too much."

Shubhangi Atre (Kasturi of Kasturi) :

Shubhangi feels that it will be a bit odd to face the camera after so many days and that it might take some time to get used to it again. However, she's sure that she won't have any problems of going back to memorizing lines. Shubhangi is really looking forward to getting back to work and says, "I've missed acting, especially the emotional scenes."

Siddharth Shukla (Shubh in Babul Ka Aangan) :

Siddharth made the most of the break by traveling and enjoying with his friends. But, he's done with that now and he can't wait to get back to the tight schedule and reciting lines. He says, "I'm really looking forward to facing the camera again. It's been a long time!" Although he says it will seem strange at first he's confident that things will be back to normal in a 2-3 days.

    Avinash Mukherjee (Jagdish of Balika):

Avinash had the time to catch up with his friends and even attend school regularly! But, he missed shooting and is sure that he won't have a problem facing the camera again. He says, "Ek rehearsal karoonga fir koi problem nahi hogi. Script ke dialogues class ke lessons se easy hain, buss ek baar padho aura a jaate hain."

Itishree Singh kicks off 'Monday Blues'
    by Vidhya Krishnan
    Nov 24, 2008, Bangalore

It takes a while to kick-start the week for a lot of people and most experience the Monday blues. For our new column, 'Monday Blues', that we will do every week, we caught up with Itishree Singh to get her views on the subject.

    Do you have Monday blues...?
Not at all! I love the day and rather feel very fresh on Mondays.

So how do you feel on a Monday?
I feel energetic and I think our weekly holidays need not necessarily be on Sundays; it could also be on Mondays. However it may be, I enjoy my work and only if your work is monotonous do you feel dull and tired. I am very passionate about my work, so I very rarely feel down.

What have you planned for the week?
I am just back from a holiday in Hong Kong. I have not yet decided as to what I will do since the strike still seems to be going on. My schedulers called me for shooting and I hopefully will get back to work as soon as possible this week. This two-week break is enough.

Three tips to beat Monday blues…
    ~ Enjoy what you do.
~ Everything is in your mind; prepare your mind and body for everything.
~ Explore and expect things at your work; look forward to positive things and take life as it comes to you.

    Keep fit with Abhinav Shukla
    by Vidhya Krishnan
    Nov 25, 2008, Bangalore

Fitness plays a major role in our lives; staying fit and healthy has become essential these days and the pressure is on for celebrities. Staying in shape is a must for those in the public eye – so, it is time to see what they are doing to win the battle of the bulge. For our Tellywatch column on fitness, we caught up with dashing model-turned-actor Abhinav Shukla, who gave us his thoughts on fitness.

    My workout regime…
I work out five to six days a week; I do heavy weights for 45 minutes and if it is cardio, it goes on for close to one-and-a-half-hours. I am an athlete and I believe that working out is having a mix of everything; meaning a combination of strength, fidelity and stamina. On Mondays, I work out at the gym. On Tuesdays, I do some running. On Wednesdays, I do heavy weights…then I take a day off and the other days, I go cycling or stick to walking.

    >My happiness quotient…
It has declined these days because I have been shooting like crazy. I do not get much time to spare.

    My daily diet…
I eat only when I feel hungry. Before hitting the gym, I take some starch which has slow-burning carbohydrates. After a workout, I take fruits and fruit juices. I don't take heavy protein shakes – I believe there are options to improvise on what you eat. I am part nutritionist myself and know the details about what is good and not good for me. So I am quite conscious about what I eat and at times I do let myself go easy on the diet.

On a rainy day, my idea of a workout would be...
I would play football in the rain. I feel football is a game which has the combination for a perfect workout. I may also choose to go cycling in the rain if the roads are not slippery.

    My idea of relaxation...
Sleep, meditation, retrospection and having peace and quiet around me.

    Size zero to you is...
It means malnutrition for me. I don't feel connected to the idea. I have seen models who want to be size zero – I think it is not a good thing for one's body. Females don't look good if they are skinny.

    I crave for...
I want to work on my physique even more and take it to another level; I feel very ambitious about it.

A lifestyle change I'm trying to make...
I want to be better in my time management. I also want to be disciplined about getting proper sleep with a regular pattern and practising it strictly.

    Fitness mantra…
Lead a good and healthy lifestyle. It is more important to feel good than look good and it all comes from your state of mind.

Keep tuning in to Tellywatch for more fitness tips from your beloved TV celebrities.

Get ready for another twist in Babul Ka Aangan Chootey Naa as Shubh turns negative...

The very much-in-love on-screen couple, Aastha and Shubh of Sony's Babul Ka Aangan Chootey Naa are now all set for some change as per the story track. Soon Shubh aka Siddharth Shukla will shift from positive to grey shade in the show.

We called the actor to ask more about this. "Yes, my character is turning grey in the show. Well there are some situations and reasons behind this behavior of Shubh", reveals the actor.

The story moves ahead with Priyanka (Shubh's college friend) entering the Ranawat family, and trying to create a rift between Aastha and Shubh. "In the upcoming episodes, Aastha gets pregnant, but some complications happen. Besides this, I don't have much idea as the story line is still being developed," adds Siddharth.

However, our khabroo gives us bit more info. "There are some misunderstandings that occur between Aastha and Shubh which force Shubh to hate her. Basically, there is a tiff between his heart and mind. While one says that he should leave Aastha, the other feels he should stay with her. It's like Shubh loves to hate her and vice versa."

We asked Siddharth of how he is preparing himself for this new twist. "Well I'm concentrating more on acting, body language and delivering the correct emotions", quips the actor.

Aren't you sneaky of essaying this role? "Yes I am, but at the end of the day, it's the call from the creative, so I really can't say any thing. I did not want to do it, but actors have no choice (grins). Ratnaji is convinced," he verbalizes.

We called up Ratna Sinha, Producer of the show who states that, "This show was always a thriller but in the middle it got lost. Thus we planned to bring back that excitement."

Kiran Dubey on fashion and style
    by Vidhya Krishnan
    Nov 27, 2008, Bangalore

Did you say you wanted fashion and style truths from your favourite TV stars? Well, Tellywatch aims to please, so here's Kiran Dubey with her views on fashion and a few style titbits thrown in for good measure.

Fashion to me is…a mix and match of everything. It is something that reveals one's personality and is a way of self-expression. But it is important to feel comfortable and be aware of what you wear depending on various factors, including weather conditions. It is better to go with what suits you than blindly following trends.

Brands that I dig...I do like branded stuff like Q10, Bitchy, Shiseido, Rohit Bal, Roberto Cavalli, Playwright; but I am also the kind where I would pick stuff from gallis and most of my beautiful designs are picked from gallis starting from the hundred buck range.

At home, you would find me lounging in...I am mostly dressed shabbily because I spend most of my time cleaning at home. I am generally in cotton wear or long flowing clothes.

My gym wear is...something that is comfortable. I go for cotton wear; maybe tracks, T-shirts or spaghettis.

Formal look to me is... looking completely Indian; I mostly go for Salwar kumeez and occasionally prefer sarees. A formal look is more of being Indian for me but I do rarely like to wear fitting gowns.

Casual look for me is…long flowing clothes; I am not so much into jeans.

My party ensemble is…it depends on the kind of party. I mostly prefer designer wear for parties.

My classic style statement is…it is more important to 'feel good' than 'look good'.

The ultimate style icon to me is…I feel sorry to say that most of our Indian actresses don't have a good sense of dressing. But Bipasha Basu is an exception and I like her dress sense because she tries different clothes. I also like Jennifer Lopez and the way she carries herself.

A must-have in my purse is…perfume, mobile phone, lip gloss.

My party look for the season is…since it is winter, I make sure to go as bright as possible and go for bright colours that suit me the most. It is important to carry it off well because bright colours need to be carried with a lot of class.

The perfume, which is my signature statement…'Romance'

The colours of this season…I am in the mood for bright colours; so it is colours like red, pink, peach and orange...

I'm a fashion junkie when it comes to…whatever it may be, I don't like overdoing anything. It is important to understand that 'less is more' and you can never go wrong that way.

My favourite designer is…Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani, Roberto Cavalli.

My most expensive dress is…I am yet to buy one…but until now my most expensive dress cost me Rs 50000 – it is a saree.

My most embarrassing fashion faux pas is…it is too embarrassing to talk about.

My fashion statement for the season is…hardcore and classy.

Remember to keep checking back our site to find out what the TV stars are talking about.
