Vaishali Nazreth on fashion and style
by Vidhya Krishnan
Oct 15, 2008, Bangalore

Vaishali Nazreth, known for her roles in 'Babul Ka Chootey Na' and 'Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai', shares her thoughts on fashion with Vidhya Krishnan …

Fashion to me is…
Another person's style statement that makes us try to adopt.

Brands I bet on...
As far as T-shirts are concerned I go for Mango; most of my jeans are Pepe or Lee and I go for Lorea for my make-up. I am not at all that particular about brands and I pick what appeals to my eye.

At home, you would find me lounging in...
Shorts and T-shirts.

My gym wear is...
Tracks and T-shirts; I prefer wearing Reebok shoes and Adidas socks because they last long.

Formal look to me is...
A knee-length outfit with neat footwear.

Casual look for me is…
Jeans, T-shirts; nice sporty skirts will also do.

My party ensemble is...
I love wearing gowns and that is something I mostly prefer for parties.

My classic style statement is…
I always like to be myself; I can look good in all kinds of clothes and I have the right attitude to carry my head over shoulders.

Indian designers that I follow…
Nobody in specific; I choose what appeals to me.

The ultimate style icon to me is… I admire the way Preity Zinta carries herself. She is so bubbly, chirpy and elegant all the time.

A must have in my purse is…
There are lots; gloss, kajal, mascara, compact powder, sunscreen lotion, rubber band and hair band.

My party look for the season is….
I really don't know and I just choose depending on my mood. I think people are so influenced by movies and follow the trend rather than what suits them.

The perfume, which is my signature statement…
I always prefer Lind stat from Paris.

The colors of this season…
Red and black is in always. I think silver is happening.

I'm a fashion junkie when it comes to…
Yes, I am very much one. I am very fashionable when it comes to accessories, especially the jewellery that I use; I prefer fast track watches for a sporty outfit. I am very particular about each and everything and I make sure that everything is perfect in the way I dress.

My favorite designer is…
None!

My most expensive dress is….
It is a nice long satin skirt and a glittery top with butterfly designs. It is a beautiful dress that I got from Juhu; it cost me Rupees 25,000.

My most embarrassing fashion faux pas is…
Yes, it happened to me once when I had attended one of my friend's birthday party. It was a theme party where everyone had to dress themselves in yellow and black. I was dressed in a tiger print dress which looked very awful. I carried myself with the right attitude, but within I was feeling really embarrassed.

My fashion statement for the season is….
Wear what makes you look and feel good, rather than adapting others' style statement.

Siddharth Shukla injures his leg

Siddharth Shukla of Shubh fame injured his leg while shooting for a sequence in Babul ka Aangan Chute Na recently. As a result, he had to be rushed to the doctor immediately and even underwent a small surgery.

"I was shooting for a sequence where Shilpa falls down the terrace and Shubh lifts her and carries her hunting for help. Suddenly Shubh sees a parked vehicle and I was supposed to break the glass of the window with my leg and in doing that scene I injured myself," explains Siddharth, "While doing this sequence the window pane broke and the splinters of the glass simply pierced my leg."

Siddharth is how ever much better now and has overcome his injury to quite an extent. In fact he is ready to start riding his bike once again.

"I am a bike lover and I recently bought a Suzuki Hayabusa 2008," says the excited lad, "And I often ride it down Carter Road or sometimes if I am in the mood all the way to Nariman Point."

I believe in qualtity, not TRP's: Ratna Shah

Ratna Sinha on life as a TV producer and shows by her production house.
Ratna Sinha believes in quality and not TRP's. Her 'Babul Ka Aangan' is one of the top shows on Sony. A new show by her production house, Chota Ganapati is slated to go on the floors soon. She starts off the conversation with a promise, "Watch out, because my production house is going to be bringing in a whole bouquet of great stuff!"
Q: Let's talk about your new show.
It is too early to talk about the new show. And I would not want to reveal anything at the moment. It's a little too premature to talk about it.
Q: In this day and age, what makes a show stand out?

I feel it is the connection the characters establish with the viewers and how the story is told. There are no new concepts. People keep asking, "So what's new?". But the way we tell the story is what makes a show stand out. The story-telling is what pulls the audience into our fold.
Q: Do you agree that 'Babul Ka Aangan' is the only fiction show on Sony that is bringing in the right numbers?

It is the conviction of the team (from the organization and the channel) which has made 'Babul Ka Aangan' stand out. We have introduced a new track (although it's a story heard and seen before which I think will have an immediate connect with the audience) which should really work well for the show.
Q: Why aren't you in the reality genre? If you were to get in, what would be the segment?
I would love to, but I would want to make something like 'Bigg Boss'; a reality show that is close to real life. Singing and dancing is pass.

Sidharth Shukla's stars seem against him these days!
Sidharth Shukla (TOI photo)

Hardly had he recuperated from the injuries during the shooting of Ratna Sinha's Babul Ka Aangan Chootey Na and now he is again bruised all over while emulating Akshay Kumar.

In a scene which required him to break the window glass of the car and enter through it, he refused to use a body double. The director gave in to his insistence and when he broke the glass with his leg he could not control the force and the splinters pierced his leg.

He was instantly taken to the doctor who performed a small surgery and advised him total rest till the wounds heal. Two accidents in one month! Now that's a lot. It's time to be a little careful Sid, what say?

Babul ka aangan… on chhutti for the past few days

The cast and crew of Babul ka aangan… has not been able to shoot for the lat few days as union members have gone on strike due to poor wages.

A source says, "Yesterday, about 22 people just rushed in and the shooting was stalled. They have been demanding an increment in their salaries and are protesting for it."

On October 3, a memorandum was filed, which had the basic demands of the union party, which producers were not aware of. It was only after they realized this that the producers came together the next day and decided to speak to the union members. According to our source, "To get membership into these union groups, people are asked to pay extremely high amounts for their cards. For example, for a 500 rupee card, people are asked to pay 1-2 lakh of rupees."

The source adds, "There are 22 heads and they are demanding 30,000 per head, which is about 20%-30% of the whole show's budget. They are just trying to threaten people."

Ratna Sinha, producer of the show says, "Their demands are slightly unfair, but we need to have a meaningful talk with them to arrive to a conclusion."

Siddharth Shukla (Shubh) admits that although he is not very aware of the issue, he supports the workers wholeheartedly. He says, "All I know is there's some problem between the producers and the workers but I sincerely support the workers as I believe the amount of physical labour and time they put in is a lot. They work very hard so their demands should be taken into consideration," says the actor.

So, will the worker's demands be fulfilled soon or is the strike going to continue?

"We will definitely try to do the best we can. We would love to get back to our work as soon as possible once everything is solved," says Ratna.

MNS threat for 'Babul Ka Aangan…'

by Vidhya Krishnan

Oct 22, 2008, Bangalore

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena-led violence in Mumbai seems to have an impact on our TV world too. A mob of MNS-supporters came to the sets of 'Babul Ka Aangan' and threatened to ransack the place if they continued shooting, it is reported. We immediately caught up with Ratna Sinha, the producer of the show to get the details.

She said, "It is true that we had people coming to the sets who told us not to continue with the shoot, but nobody threatened that they would break down the whole place. We stopped the shoot to avoid trouble; nothing much could be done about anything."

We hope things get back to normalcy and that the unit commences shooting at the earliest.

Celebrating Bhai Duuj with stars

Bhai Duuj or Bhai Bhij, which is normally celebrated on the fifth day of Diwali, is being celebrated nationwide today. This is the day when all the brothers are invited to their sister's home and like during Rakhi, on Bhai Duuj sisters put a tilak on their brother's forehead and in return brothers gift them some thing.
Our small screen stars say that they too have a lot to do on this day...

Parul Chauhan (Ragini of Bidaai) is sad about not getting an off today so she will be celebrating the festival on the sets itself with her reel as well as real life brother "My bhaiya will come over to the sets. I'll put teeka aur kalava badhoongi and then like every year bhaiya will gift me a salwar kameez," says the Bidaai girl.
Romit Raj's cousin who stays in Delhi has already sent him the rochana (tilak) by courier and he has bought a surprise gift for his sister too which he refuses to reveal.

Reshmi Ghosh (Bhoomi of Kyunki) doesn't have any real brother but she celebrates the festival with her onscreen brothers "I tie rakhi to Amit and Puneet on Rakshabandhan," says the girl. She takes some time off from her busy schedule and does the teeka. In return she gets many gifts like cosmetics, shoes, dresses and sometimes even money. The actress says she loves gifts and she demands them!

Itishree Singh (Shilpa of Babul ka aangan…) who has two brothers tries to take a holiday and goes to her hometown in Kota, Rajasthan but this year she won't be able to. However she tells us how this day is special for her. "Teeka lagati hu, fir haath mein laal dhaaga bandhti hu and in return I get many chocolates of different varieties which I love," says Itishree. After this, the actress goes to a mandir which is very close to her place where there is a grand lungar (feast). "There's this special meal called punchkoot which consists of chawal, mixed vegetable ki bhaji, kaali dal and many other things and it's very tasty. I just love that!" says the excited girl.

Sachin Sharma has gone to Delhi to be with his two elder sisters on this occasion. Explaining the procedure, Sachin says "They put a teeka on my forehead and give me a kacchha nariyal (coconut) jisme bhi teeka laga hota hai. This nariyal I am supposed to cut and eat later...It is said that this nariyal keeps all the bad things away." Sachin has bought a couple of salwar suits for his sisters which he hopes they will like.

    Love triangle in Babul…

Sony's Babul Ka Aangan Chootey Na will see the entry of a new character that will alter the equation between Astha (Aastha Chaudhary) and Shubh (Siddharth Shukla).

After the track of Shilpa (Itishree Singh) being raped (where Shubh was the main accused), our hero is proven innocent after he exposs the real culprit. From hereon, a new track is all set to begin in Babul.

A source informs, "Shreya Bisht will enter Babul. She has earlier acted in serials like Kasauti Zindagi Kay and Karam Apna Apna. The name of her character is Priyanka. In the show, she is a childhood friend of Shubh (Siddharth Shukla) and she also has a one sided love for him. She comes back into the life of Shubh and Astha (Aastha Chaudhary) with a secret motive that will unfold much later in the show."

Shreya Bisht says, "I am doing a cameo in this show. The length of this cameo depends on the way this track shapes up. My character has grey shades to it. There is a suspense attached to my character but I can't reveal it now. I took up this role as it gives me an opportunity to portray different shades and perform as an actor."

After a tragic drama in Babul…, we await to watch this light love triangle.
