Things I liked: 14th July

Dosti ke phere continue...in a roundabout fashion so to speak😆...Nice episode today...the story continues to develop well.


1) Nikumb doth protest a bit too much when it comes to the question of even acknowledging Yamini as a FRIEND😆...in the initial scene with Azam, he was quite defensive and vehement in saying that Yamini is only a colleague to him...Azam teasing him with MPK dialogues was just😆😆...and Nikumb categorically states that he doesn't want any misunderstandings on the topic...but too many things are in motion for that misunderstanding to be scaled back as of now, Mr. Sharma...


2) Daddo's scene with Yamini where they are looking at old things...I liked how the perfume bottle bit was shown...such subtle, simple things yet so enchanting somehow...to me atleast...lol...and the introduction of the next track through this scene...Yamini trying to find her father's old best friend to give him a surprise on his birthday...and they had to name the friend Akhlaque? LOL I bet the real Akhlaque is loving that😆

I also liked how Yamini subtly tried to figure out her place in Nikumb's life and whether or not he considers her a friend by asking Daddo how one knows this.


3) Nikumb actually seems surprisingly more cheerful than I expected him to be...considering how the previous epi ended😆...but it seems everyone has brushed that aside and moved along...and despite his claims that he doesn't care much about Yamini, he seems to surprisingly perk up around her😆...like in the scene today when Yamini is feeling awkward about the way she left the engagement and Nikumb just brushes it aside saying he understands and he'd have beaten up the waiter more?😲😆...so are we to understand from that scene that the waiter was ACTUALLY at fault and a lecher? But even then Raghu was totally psycho over-reacting there...I don't get how the writers are defending this...😕...I mean I understand they want to show him as over-protective but it didn't really come through in that scene...he only came across looking psychotic.

Anyways back to the NY scene...Nikumb obviously instantly volunteering to help Yamini find Akhlaque Uncle...lol...and laughing at Yamini's childhood pic😆


4) Azam's "Jhakaas" mimicry and Nikumb KICKING him on his behind as he walks away from the bike after teasing Nikumb about him taking Yamini for a ride😆


5) Nikumb joking about how Yamini should sit carefully on the bike cuz the last time she sat behind him, RIOTS broke out in the city😆😆


6) The "Kyun" song sequence...very sweet...very apt for NY firstly and then the bits and pieces they showed in the montage were nice too...especially Yamini looking at the cotton candy with so much yearning and Nikumb getting it for her.


7) Poor Azam suffering a mini heartbreak as Shaheen sort of conveys her views on the class divide b/w them and how her family would never agree to a relationship that didn't match their social standing...


8) The NY scene at the chai stand in the end...lol Yamini's sense of humor is really unfolding now as she pokes fun at herself seeing that chaiwallah singing her Baawre song in such a besura tone...lol...and then taking the chance to indirectly inquire if Nikumb considers her a friend...and aww poor thing is disappointed there as Nikumb categorically states that he's not her friend and she's just an acquaintance...the way Yamini's face falls there...I thought back to NM's narration about how she is inevitably set up for heartbreak...Nikumb even used that stupid "ek ladka ladki kabhi dost nahin ho sakte" line from MPK that he himself was beating up Azam for using *rolls eyes*😆😆

Nikumb's actions bely his words though...lol...he claims he doesn't consider her a friend but he goes out of the way to be protective about her...Yamini felt bad when he said that and even he noticed it after a beat...but didn't retract his words...and ultimately Yamini also forced a small smile and tried to move on from that...Nikumb thinks he's clear on this topic and he doesn't want to give her any hopes or expectations on the friendship or more front...but he is still drawn to her...it showed in the way he was watching her laughing in the Kyun montage...

The plot thickens!😆


Precap: LMAO@ Nikumb's TIMING🤣...Raghu's worst nightmare...hahaha...Yamini was thinking she was introducing Akhlaque uncle and in walks Nikumb greeting everyone like he's there to ask for Yamini's hand😆😆...I'm expecting a major DHAMAKA tomorrow😆

lol !! anu ur last stanza about nikumbh entry in the precap scene cracked me up !! u cannot be more accurate than that...he actually entered and did all namaskar stuffs with shy smile exactly like a wannabe bridegroom, ready to face daddy and ask the girl's hand in marriage. I remeber my now pati, thattime boyfriend came to my house for the 1st time wearing similar expressions in his face ! and that is a real queer parallel I am drawing, since Nikumbh declares yamini is not at all his friend even, forget marriage, lauu etc...she is a colleague a mere acquaintance !!

Poor Nikumb in the height of denial. Their time together at the party felt like a date. Their outing today felt like a date. His concern and attention to her feels like something more the friends but Nikumb wants to call her a colleague.😆 Oh well what's in a name after all 😉

Interesting how the dissappointment Yamini feels is mirrored by Azam's dissappointment.

It will be really interesting to see how Yamini's family interacts with Nikumb.

Ooh good catch! I never noticed that parallel until you just mentioned it...so true...both Yamini and Azam were disappointed by their respective someone specials in this epi...lol

I can't even imagine how awkward the interaction with Yamini's family will be...lol well I have a feeling Daddo will be the one trying to smooth things over and might hit it off with Nikumb but the others...the only thing stopping Raghu from creating a scene immediately would possibly be the arrival of his long lost best friend.

That elaborate handshake...I think to him, it was nothing more than another confidence boosting gesture...making her stand up and shake his hand properly to give her that respect for having done well...

Romanticism aside, I can see why everything that has happened can be interpreted in another way by Nikumb too...that protective teacher-student vibe also exists b/w them...he gave her extra attention cuz she's the star of the play...this is how Nikumb sees it...he does not want to tap into his subconscience and acknowledge what has already become obvious to Azam and somewhat to Yamini.

I am completely ok with Nikumbh being in denial regarding their friendship. I want them to take their time. The slower they go the more sweet moments are shown.

My favourite moment was when despite all the "we r acquaintances" to him taking over to help her find the uncle. No one else can do it. The bike ride was super sweet. Even liked the scarf and sunglasses that magically appeared on her face.

Yes I'm also liking the progression of their friendship as of now...Nikumb is in denial but Yamini is also not falling overnight into love...I like how she is tentatively exploring the parameters of this even in the friendship space...there is a natural vibe to their equation...especially felt it in the chai stand scene yesterday...how the comfort level has grown...from a time when it was only Nikumb trying to put her at ease with his witty one-liners, now Yamini talks to him like an equal in some ways...the impact of burgeoning friendship...but then even as that happens, Yamini can't help but be hurt and disappointed at his somewhat callous dismissal of what has become a special friendship to her now.

*Edit: I felt like Nikumb used Azam's "Ek ladka ladki kabhi dost nahin ban sakte line" to again downplay their equation...it's interesting to me that he used that line when he himself beat up Azam for using it in the first place...that to me says that Nikumb was a bit flustered there and just wanted to hurriedly dismiss the whole topic😆

Yes, it was really interesting how he used Azam's lines to push Yamini away. The way he was flustered was very interesting as he was trying to gauge Yamini's feeling and probably trying not to hurt her feelings by what he said. Maybe he was trying to see if how strongly Yamini feels for him.
