Hi Akshata, More than the interest I think it was the time factor, too, lol, at least for me. 😉 I personally think this topic was not bad!

Hi friends,
So happy to hear from you all.Rama, inspite of time constraint you made it. 👏.Encouraging to know that otherwise all of you would have contributed more.
Krutilynn, that's a cute pic.Maybe we should all dare to put up our pics (with spouse) for a day or two atleast. What say?? I say dare because I am so hesitant to do such things...all the weird things we hear!!

And II hurry up,you only have the weekend.

Rama, when you write what you feel it always sounds good, one does not have to be good at it or something.
I think most of us here feel the same as you even though we have pointed out major issues for discussion sake.We have to start at the personal level first and that too in the family.

Do send your topics to Sree to avoid multiple topics.
Cheers

It has been a real treat to read the views of the members of "the THINKERS club"!!
I speak here only from a woman's point of view and from my own experiences in life so far.
Feminism to me is ALL about EQUALITY -- equality in all spheres of life - including equal opportunity to both males and females, equal treatment at all levels, yes - equal pay packets too, essentially no discrimination whatsoever. Gender bias can be a frustrating experience and discrimination based purely on one's sex is absolutely unfair. The only factors in my opinion, which could and indeed do tip the scales of equality, would be culture, the physiological make-up of a women and also circumstances. We are each a victim of our circumstances, which cause every human being to act and react in a certain way.
Men and women are physiologically different - a reality which cannot be disregarded at all. This difference has been very well elaborated by the other members in this thread. When women are popularly referred to as "the weaker sex" -- I honestly wish they are referring to the physical strength of each. Men may be physically stronger than women - but that does not mean that might is right.
Feminism is definitely not about bra-burning. Let's face it -- the bra is an essential part of the female attire and was designed with some specific purpose!!
Am I a feminist?? I honestly don't know. Life has different meanings and understandings at different stages. In my teens, and even in my twenties - college, career took priority. Perhaps I was more vocal when in my teens and twenties and would have qualified as a true feminist. But in hindsight, often I reacted without thinking about the repurcussions. Today, I am faced with a very very different situation in my life than what I was going through 20 years ago. My values, my priorities, also my thinking have all gone through a lot of change. The feminist in me has taken a more practical approach to every day situations and to life in general.

I wish InnocentIndian would have participated and given us his "two cents" on this otherwise female viewpoint -- but this topic is still open and hopefully we will get to read his take on feminism.

Hey Riknik,
Bas aapki hi kami thi.Good that you found the time to write.

Quite right!I was a little embarassed to write this point. One does not have to resort to such foolish means to demand equality. We have already discussed how a woman can look/feel very feminine and yet "be a man" when the situation demands.
And like you said the concept of feminism does change as we grow older,by change I mean it will have a more dimensions. Our own experiences and circumstances will influence our opinion,be it on feminism or any other aspect of life!

Innocentindian!Ab likh hi do aap ki rai. 😊

I too was embarrassed to warite about the bra burning point! I agree completeley with RikNik and Akstaha.

I agree with Rama on equal rights - which is what feminism is about. I do not however think that the discrimination exists in India alone. It occurs in US as well - subtle as it maybe. I think I brought that up in Krutis thread. I have seen it at work too - and mind you I work for a financial company! Anwyays, wil write more again later. It was good hearing from all of you!

Hey Aksh, as one of the founder members of "the THINKERS" club, how could I stay away!!
Each one has been putting in a fair share of their thoughts and experiences which has got the others thinking. The members too seem to have gotten quite cosy and comfortable sharing their real life experiences on an open platform. What with you proposing putting up photos in the Avatars!! Am just hoping we are able to strenghthen our club with some interesting topics.

I also forgot to add one more point - again boils down to 'equality'. I have heard crap (again pardon my language) in Serials (Saath Phere tops it all) where they say that "My daughter is like a son to me" And I think "What????????" As far as I am concerned, a daughter is a daughter is a daughter and is as precious and important as a son is. I know I am a DAUGHTER (NOT a son) to my parents and do as much for my parents and owe as much responsibility towards them as my brother does and they treat me no differently - even with respect to the comfort level, they are as comfortable staying with me as with my brother (Of course they prefer to be independent like most parents these days but when they do visit us in the US, they stay with both of us the same length of time). I find it just annoying when I hear statements like this it irks me because that sentence itself subtly implies that a son is 'superior' to a daughter! What a lot of BS!!! For someone who does not have a son (and have no regrets whatsoever, don't get me wrong, I would not have regretted it even if I had a son) and who has consciously decided not to have a second child (Not because I don't want to have a son but because of other reasons and anyways there is no guarantee I would have a son the second time, lol), these kind of statements can really push my buttons. 😡 I can also say with 200% confidence that if I were also to have a son, I would treat them no differently even later in life once they were married! The reason for my confidence is that even now my parents see me no differently and I for one am pretty much living as per what I believe in as far as parents, family, etc. is concerned.
