Gosh Rubi.. I missed the bus again... the long weekend did not give me a chance to ask questions.. Most of the questions have been asked already...

Here are some for you, that I can think of..
-Do you believe in being a parent to the kids or a friend?
- If your daughter chose to go into a profession that you are uncomfortable, then what would you do or rather, how would handle the situation?
- Do you listen to Ghazals? If so who is your fav singer?

It is great that you have the patience and you are able to handle them so well... That's an art!

Are your parents in Pakistan still? Do they visit you in Canada often?

Who in your family, besides your husband and children are you closest to? I mean amongst your parents, siblings, etc.

Do you relate and share things like a friend to your parents?

Hi Farhana 😃 I just read ur slam book and home page and really surprised by the similarity of our lifes 😊 I lived in SaudiArabia from 1985 – 1999 and in USA 1999 – 2002 and finally moved to Canada in January 2003….Its really good to know about the similarities we both have like arranged marriage and 2 sons, Parveen Shakir etc 😛 I think you may have experienced the same ups and down by moving from a country to another and after spending a life that was totally dependent on husband, got urself ready to work and gained more confidence …….Its good to know that ur sister has the same name as mine, 😊 Is she still in Karachi or here?

anyway, my questions....
Where were you living in Saudi Arabia & how do like it?

I was in Dhahran , in the beginning I was in Dammam but later moved to Alkhobar( u must've heard about the city 😃) Those days were wonderful and I still miss the peaceful, carefree life which I spent there 😳

In which state u were in USA?

During my short stay in USA, I was in New Jersey as we have some relatives there which helped us a lot to settled down in a totally new world.. 😃

Do u like USA more then Canada or vice versa?

I find Canada much better than USA, ppl are more civilized and life is more peaceful than in USA…..I would never imagine spending my life in USA 😳 ( some ppl may be disagree with me as I am talking about my own experience only, no offence plz 😊) I find lifestyle in Canada is similar as in Saudi Arabia, the only advantage u r getting here that u r free to share responsibilities with ur life partner unlike in Saudi Arabia…And I miss the gatherings and social life we used to have there. I find the life in North America is very formal.

Scorpio,

My question:
Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio? 😃

congrats on being MOW!

Thanks chweety 😃

here are my questions.
considering your age, maturity and experience,i'm sure you will be able to answer these very well.

1.how to handle life's testing times?

I believe that if you really have faith on God that He would handle every testing situation for you then you could easily control the testing times. We have to leave something on Him and this is the only way to get peace of mind in any circumstances. Religion ( any religion) always give you strength and maintain ur mental balance in a correct position even in hard testing times.

2.to what extent should parents interfere in grown-up children's' life regarding decision making, education, career, also choosing a life partner.

Parents responsibility is to raise the children in a way that they could make right decisions for themselves.. Parents always decide for the children where to get the education from but as far as the decision to choose career is totally the right of the children, parents shouldn't force them to be something they don't want. And I would definitely give my children the right to choose their life partners but before making the final decision I would advise them to make sure that their decision isn't based on the temporary attachment or attraction. 😳

3.i've rarely seen a DIL-MIL getting along well with each other. why is this a never ending thing? how to make this relationship better and bond well with each other?

Unfortunately I never got chance to spend enough time with my DIL-MIL but the main thing I've noticed in this relationship is the EGO problem which stops a person to solve the misunderstanding by talking directly face to face…Why only with MIL-DIL ? it could happen with any relation even if its ur own sister or brother. The best way to avoid these misunderstanding is to consider them as ur own and always put ur feet in their shoes before misbehaving or doing something which could make them feel hurt,( believe me it helped me a lot everytime I decided to do something which could be unpleasant for my in-laws 😛 )

4.which phase of parenting is tough....when kids are a)babies b)toddlers c)school going age d)teenagers e)settling down.

Good question 😊 I think every parent face the same difficulties and hard time when kids are babies, toddlers or school going. The most difficult phase of parenting is the time when children become teenagers and consider themselves as mature enough to decide for their lives, that is the time when parents have to keep an eye on them as well as give them some freedom to make important decisions…Fortunately my children didn't give me hard time in their teenage 😊 they always discuss every matter of their lives with me and the time when they will settle down is not so far 😃 I will definitely share my experience with you

I look just like the mother of 3 teenagers 😃 just kidding , but you have to write clearly that what do you want to know about my looks i.e: height, weight, complexion etc (don't worry I did'nt mind at all 😛 )

Don't worry my friend its never too late 😛

Here are some for you, that I can think of..
-Do you believe in being a parent to the kids or a friend?

I'd always preferred to be a friend to my children. The better way is to maintain a friendly relations with ur kids because whenever they need to share something, they don't need to look around for anyone else, we should show and make them feel that there is nobody who could be more sincere and caring than their parents.

- If your daughter chose to go into a profession that you are uncomfortable, then what would you do or rather, how would handle the situation?

If we've raised our children in a proper way then it will be easier to tell them the benefits to choose a respectful profession & at the same time acknowledge them the long term results for choosing the profession that may not suits them in their lifes and then I don't think children would decide to be something that really makes us feel uncomfortable

- Do you listen to Ghazis? If so who is your fad singer?

😃 I love to listen ghazals specially Jagjit Singh , Mehdi Hassan and Noor Jehan…..Sometimes I avoid listening them because it makes me feel sad for no reason but I always love to hear soft and melodious music. 😊
