Part 36

"We found a murder of a 50 years old jeweler at Star-night pub near shipment factory, the victim's name is Shalesh Sisodia. There were three main suspects for this murder.

Suspect No.1 Leena Sisodia, Shalesh's to-be ex-wife. Their relationship had never been good since 3 years. And had been living separate since a year, recently applied for divorce. She would be the most benefited with the victim's death but her alibi proved her innocent as she was with her lawyer discussing to find ways to snatch away the property.

Suspect No.2 Sandy, a small drug peddler. There were few transactions between victim and him. But he was at the local police that day because of some fight.

Suspect No.3 Rakesh Sahao, a 34 year old small-firm lawyer. And our main suspect. He had bought some artifacts from Sisodia's jewelry shop and later became very close acquaintance of Sisodia. He said he was at home and had being watching movie at the time murder at a very high volume which had caused complaints from his neighbours. He was very direct about his alibi which can't be called truth." Shree sat on his chair after concluding the case.

"Hmm. Tm log neighbours se wahi reply Mila hoga jo woh chahta tha right?" Arjun asked looking at analyst board.

"Bilkul sir. Yahan tak ke colony ka secretary tou bharak bhi raha tha uspar." Replied Chotu.

"Aur problem ye hai Rawte, ke hamare koi evidence ya witness nahi hai ye prove karne ke liye ke Rakesh ghar pe nahi uss pub mei tha. Lekin hamari saari theory uspar hi point kar rhi hai." Rathod said passing the file of phone details to Arjun, and added

"Aur ye phone details ka bahana bhi uske pas ready tha, ke uska phone chori hogya ussi din. Aur agle din FIR bhi karayi hai."

"And now he is out of our radar. We can't contact him, neither find him anywhere at his home, office, pub." Said Ayesha shaking her head.

"Sir victim ki body par hume kuch finger prints mile the and it did match with Sahao but we can't say that it was the finger prints of criminal as there were many finger prints of the body and his possessions." Liza said handling the forensic report to Arjun.

"Okay. Let's start the case from beginning. Sabse pehle hume Shalesh aur Rakesh ka ghar phir se search karna hoga. Kuch tou hoga wahan jo hamari nazron se chut rha hai. Let's go." Arjun said standing up.

"Yes Sir/Okay Arjun!" Replied everyone except Sameer.

Sisodia's House

Arjun, Shree and Liza reached Shailesh's house and searched it thoroughly but found nothing suspicious. They came back in the living room, Arjun's eyes fell on the side shelf, where three little silver diya-like candles are placed on it but many are missing as there are some clean circular space left on the dusted surface around those candles. Arjun took a closer look at those candles then ordered "Liza bring these candles and analyse them."

"Okay sir!" Liza put those candles in the evidence bag.

Arjun went inside the main bedroom and searched the safe locker and found two similar candles in it. He gave it to Liza too.

Arjun turned and asked "Shree ye Sisodia ki jewellery shop kahan hai? Humein wahan bhi checking karna hai, afterall Shailesh and Rakesh get acquainted there only."

"Yes sir." Shree replied and they left.

Sisodia Jewels

They searched but found nothing out of place or suspicious. As they were planning to leave, their eyes fell on similar candles among other decorative pieces. Shree took a step closer and as he said "Strange! Why would a jewellery shop sell artificial artifacts? Though most of these items are of crystals, alluminium and silver but..?"

Arjun shook his head and said "Shree, the presence of these artifacts isn't more strange than the presence of these candles among them, because they are neither made of silver, alluminium nor crystals. Liza bring these along too."

Liza nodded and put them in different evidence bag before following them out.

ETF office

"Did you guys find something new Rawte?" Rathod asked as Arjun entered the conference room.

Arjun took his seat and said "Nahi Rathod abhi kuch nahi mila. Sakshi pass me the photos taken from the previous search."

Meanwhile Liza went back to her lab and Shree shared about their search with everyone.

After sometime, Arjun placed the photos on the table and concluded "Rakesh is the murderer."

Everyone looked at him surprised. Sameer rubbed his forehead as he spoke "Rawte itna tou hum jaante hi hain lekin evidence and motive ke bina, hum arrest warrant nahi nikal sakte uske liye."

Arjun shook his head, and said "Shree show the photos from previous search to everyone."

Shree switched on the projector and typed some keys in his laptop before saying "Here it is, sir."

Everyone confusedly turned towards the screen. Arjun said showing previous photos of Shailesh's living room "The photos from previous search in the victim's house shows that there were eight candles on the shelf but now we only saw three candles." Then he skipped to the photos of jewellery shop as he said "Earlier Shailesh never sold any artifacts as we can see in this two year old photo of his jewellery shop, so this is definitely related to his murder."

"But sir, why does selling artifacts relate to his murder?" Ayesha asked.

Arjun pointed at a photo of Rakesh and Shailesh standing together smiling. "Because Rakesh and Shailesh got acquainted in that year only. Look at this photo from two year back, Shailesh had this photo at his house. Shree zoom at their back." The zoomed in photo focused on the empty place where there is no shelf of artifacts. Then Arjun said "Shree click on the next one."

And everyone realised what Arjun said was right as the second picture has the date of a week later, in which smiling Shailesh is standing beside the newly installed shelf with artifacts. Then Arjun asked Shree to click the next, which is the photo of Rakesh's house from the previous search which they did two days after the murder, it shows that there are five candles of same logo placed inside a glass shelf which is locked.

"Sam what did you saw in today's search?" Arjun asked Sameer already knowing the answer.

"Today, there were no candles." Sameer shook his head understandingly.

Ayesha said "Though now we have evidence that somehow the murder is related to these candles, but what could be motive behind all this?"

"That will be concluded soon by Liza. But we have to catch Rakesh before he flee out of India." Arjun said.

"Chotu, Ayesha activate your informers. Send them Rakesh's photo and details fast. Shree alert the control room with his detail and ask them for details of every check post and also inform commisioner sir for the arrest warrant." Rathod issued a series of orders.

"Chotu ask your men to check whether there is any smuggling deal taking place around Mumbai within these two days?" Arjun said standing up, tugging his revolver.

"Deal!? Kaisi deal sir?" Chotu asked frowning.

Arjun raised his eyes, look at Chotu then everyone and said "DIAMONDS!"

Everyone looked at him shocked and soon Arjun's mobile rang. Seeing Liza's number, he put the call on speaker and asked "Haan Liza."

"Sir, you were right. The candle we found in the safe contain wax only 15% on the surface, the rest of its white portion have diamonds. And the dust of the shelf with missing candles had the same chemical reaction as the candle with diamonds." Liza announced proving Arjun's thought to the point.

Arjun looked at Chotu and said "Ab samjhe ya.. samjhaoon!"

Everyone nodded their head and get to their assigned work. Sakshi also called her friends for the information regarding diamond smuggling deals and dealers. As she was noting down the information, she got another call, thinking it to be her friend she recieved the call without seeing the name and asked "Do you get any information if there is any diamond deal tonight?"

"Diamond deal? Sakshi kis deal ki baat kar rahi ho?" A familiar female voice came from the other side of the phone. Surprised Sakshi looked at the screen and saw it is Riya's call, she smiled and told her about the case. Riya said "Oh okay. Sakshi listen I'll ask my informers too, maybe they have some leads. Can you please put me on speaker?"

Sakshi agreed and switched on her speaker before gesturing others to listen.

"Sir statistically speaking, in 45% cases diamond deal took place after sunset and in 60% cases criminal on radars tries to complete the deal within two days at the most. Here, Rakesh in on the run since last night which means he might finish the deal tonight, which left us only 3 hrs." Riya's word resounded in the conference room making everyone smiled at her statistics as Sameer replied back "Good point Riya, we will work on it right away."

"Okay sir, take care." Riya replied before ending the call.

Soon they got a vague lead that says a deal is going to happen tonight at 11 pm at an outskirt hill but don't know whether they are smuggling diamonds, drugs or something else. Not taking the risk of loosing Rakesh, ETF alongwith some back-up force speed up on the way. Sameer also informed the nearby police force to be on alert and soon they arrived at the base of that hill.

There is a sea port behind this hill and people have to drive up the hill to reach the port. Normally very few people cross this hill, thus there isn't people or cars around them. Arjun said "Humein yahan se undercover jaana chahiye to catch them red handed."

Rathod opened the map of the hill and said "Exactly. Arjun, Shree and Ayesha tum log iss taxi ko drive karo. Mai, Chotu aur Liza SUV se tumhare piche honge aur back-up forces ka kaam inn areas se poore hill ko surround karke climb karna hai koi bhi hath se nikalna nahi chahiye. Sakshi, you with few officers stay here and alert us as soon as anyone tries to come or go out. Also be ready if any casualties took place. Team, is it clear?"

"Yes sir!" Everyone replied. While Arjun turned to recieve Riya's call as he spoke "Haan Riya, what happen?"

"Arjun ap log kahan hai?" Riya asked with slight trembles.

"We are out on a mission Riya, about to catch Rakesh and diamond dealers. Right now we are at the base of the outskirt hill. You go have your meds and sleep, it's getting very late for you to be awake. Hmm!? Good night and don't worry about us alright?" Arjun said softly.

"Huh. Okay. Please take care." Riya replied and cut the call.

'Arjun I just saw a very bad dream after which I can't sleep. I am having a negative intuitions, I have to be sure.' Riya thought as she hurriedly got up from the bed, informed her mother that she will be back in sometimes before taking a cab.
