Part 12 -
The next morning Arjun woke up in his sofa holding a file. He didn't realize when he drifted off. Last night he was remembering all of the memories of college... Prerna. He needed her to be with him, after Roshni left. She was his only means of support, but he had betrayed her; how could she forgive him? "Chahe jo hojai. Main tumse maafi leke hi rahoonga. You have to forgive me." He got ready and went to the office.
Instead of going to his cabin, Arjun went straight to the meeting room. Prerna wasn't there. Just as he sat down she came in and said, "Shree, updates?" Shree nodded and said, "Yes ma'am. Mr. Agarwal aur Shweta ka love marriage hua ta. Shweta unke office mein kaam karti ti aur dono ko pyaar ho gaya. Cheh mehne boyfriend/girlfriend hone ke baad shaadi karli." Prerna nodded and said, "Hum Shweta ki maayeke jaayenge. Baaki sab kaha hain?" "Voh. Chotu aur Lisa lab se kuch sabooth lane gaye hain aur Rathore Sir aur.." Sameer and Aisha came in, "Hum yahan hain," said Sameer. "Teek hai let's go."
They walked out one by one and Arjun and Prerna were the only ones left in the room. Arjun was walking out when Prerna tripped over some files on the floor. He caught her before she fell; his arm was around her waist. They had an eyelock. Prerna broke out of the trance and said, trying to get Arjun away from her, "Main apna kyal rakh sakti hoon. Mujhe tumhaari zaroorat nahi hai." Arjun was hurt, but he knew she what she was trying to do. He ignored her comment.
They stood up to see Chotu and Lisa staring with their mouths open. The moment was too awkward for all of them, so they didn't say anything and silently went to the car.
Shweta's parents house was a small bungalow. It was nothing compared to Tej Agarwal's huge mansion. The team entered the house and sat down with Mr. and Mrs. Singh. Aisha went to Mrs. Singh and said, "I'm really sorry for your loss, but please cooperate with us so that we can find your daughter's murderer."
Mr Agarwal spoke up, "Dhoond ne ki koyi zaroorat nahi hain. Hume pata hain ki katil kon hain." Arjun looked at him and said, "Kon? Aur agar aapko pata ta to aapne police ko kyun nahi bataya?" Mrs. Singh interrupted, "Kyunki jab humne unhe bataya, toh voh kairehte ki sabooth lagega, aur humare paas koyi sabooth nahi hai."
Mr. Singh continued, "Shweta ka purana boyfriend, Rajesh hi katil hai. Ussne Shweta ke saath cheating ki aur Shweta ne usse chodh diya. Phir usse Tej se pyaar ho gaya. Tej bohut acha ladka tha sir. Jab Tej ne Shweta ko propose kiya, tab Rajesh ne usse dhamki di, kehraha ta ki: Shweta sirf meri hain aur agar tumne usse shaadi ki toh main tum dono ki jaan lehloonga. Humne uske dhamki ko nazar andaaz kardi, lekin yeh nahi jante teh ki voh iss hadth takh jayega." He sobbed.
"Team. Hume ek baar phir crime spot jaana hoga," said Prerna."Lekin kyun?" said Sameer. "I'll tell you later. Ab chalo." Arjun got into the driver's seat of the car. He was expecting Prerna to sit next to him, but she went into the other car. He was disappointed, but knew that she did it on purpose.
They reached the crime spot in 5 minutes. Prena said, "Team. Yahan ki achi talashi lon. Dig up the ground if you have to." Everyone spread out and started searching. Prerna was the closest to the murder spot. Suddenly, some light flashed directly into her eye. She was startled at first, and turned to see a watch stuck in between the branches of a tree. She remembered that was the watch the man was wearing in the photo.
The team assembled in the middle of the park and Prerna showed them the evidence. "Good job," said Arjun. Prerna ignored this. "Hum uske gha.." started Sameer. His eyes fell on a figure walking towards the murder spot. "Hey!" He ran towards the person. The man saw the team and started running. They chased him until he was trapped.
"Surrender karne mein hi ab tumhaari balai hai Rajesh," said Sameer. "I don't think so," said Rajesh. He took out a gun and started firing. The team got behind and started firing too. Arjun went ahead and tried to catch him but Rajesh shot him in the arm.
"Arjun!" Prerna screamed. The rest of the team caught Rajesh. She ran over to him. Arjun was laying on the ground. The bullet hit him with such force, he fell over. Prerna wrapped him in her arms and said, "Tum bilkul bache jaise ho. Apna kyal kyun nahi rakte? Kya zaroorat thi saamne aane ki, huh?" Arjun breathed in, he felt relieved, hugging her after all these years.
Prerna realized what she was doing and seperated from him. The team came and Sameer said, "Well done Prerna. Aaj itne saal baad bhi tum case solve karne mein expert ho. Good job." He then saw Arjun and continued, "Arrey. Yeh kya hua? Prerna tum isse ghar leke jao aur patti bandho." Prerna glared at him. "Aise kya dekh rahi ho? Jao!" She sighed. Carefully, she took Arjun's arm and pulled him up to his feet; her hands were shaking. They slowly walked to the car and drove away.
Shree nudged Chotu and said, "Inn dono ke beech mein kuch toh hai." "Haan yaar."
