*New Arjun SS-* A Few Good Men

Hello guys!

Just thought of writing a story before all inspiration is lost as we bid adieu to the team. Was trying a new script writing software, hence the format and presentation is a bit different. Do keep the feedback coming. It is very encouraging. And yes, as usual I think I shall have a avalanche of updates😛

PART 1.

Fade In:

INT. A DESERTED ROAD

The headlights of a police vehicle throws light onto a body

covered with blood. Camera zooms into the police emblem on

the victims uniform. And then into a similar emblem on a man

standing beside the body,with the gun in his trembling

hands.

AT THE ETF HEAD QUARTERS

Rathore: Team, we have a case. A

very high profile one. You must

have seen in news..last night the

DGP was in town to receive an

honorable department award. He

was shot while returning from the

function.

Arjun: But there is already an

arrest,right?

Rathore: Yes, he was accompanied

by a junior officer-Pavak Chauhan

who apparently killed him.

Ayesha: But motive?

Rathore: Not very clear. There was

a packet of drugs found near the

body. Maybe,Pavak was involved in

drugs and when sir found him,he

shot him..

Arjun: And then stood there with

the drug packet, waiting for the

police to arrive??? (with sarcasm)

Rathore: Arjun,I am much in the

dark as you. This is just a

conjecture..

Arjun: But we are taking about an

on duty police officer, so can we

please be sure before we malign

his character?

AYESHA:

Sir I think we should talk to

Inspecter Pavak. Now that the case

if transferred to the ETF,he will

be here in an hour.

RATHORE: (GLARING AT ARJUN)

Okay. Arjun sahab se uska

character certificate lena mat

bhulna.

SCENE FADES IN.

ETF INTERROGATION ROOM

Pavak sat alone on a chair,eyes straing steadfast at

nothing in particular. There was a strange calmness in his

bodylanguage, devoid of any defence.

RATHORE:

So Inspecter Pavak, you are aware

that you are charged with murder?

PAVAK:

Yes.

RATHORE:

And your defence?

PAVAK:

None.

(Rathore and Arjun share a

glance, surprised at the way

this interrogation was going

on)

ARJUN:

So you killed him?

PAVAK:

Yes.

ARJUN:

Why?

Pavak looked uncomfortable for a second. He looked down and

remained silent.

RATHORE:

Was it to do with drugs?

(silence)

ON THE WALKWAY

RATHORE:

This is an open and shut case. he

admitted to the crime.

ARJUN:

But not to the motive.

RATHORE:

How does that matter? His lawyer

will take care of that. Our job is

done. I am going to address the

media waiitng outside. What a

shame for the police department!

ARJUN:

It will be a bigger shame if we do

not investigate the case. Kahin

kuch choot raha hai, Rathore.

RATHORE:

Arjun, I can understand you have a

soft corner for tainted cops,but I

cannot stand such cops who bring a

bad name to the department. This

guy was possessing drugs on

duty! I shall get the narcotics

team to continue the

investigation,while you are free

to start your own investigation to

prove me wrong.

ARJUN:

This is not about who is right. Its about what is right. It

always was.

Rathore stares into Arjun's eyes,trusting his instincts.

RATHORE:

Okay, we will investigate.

Part 2:

CONFERENCE ROOM

ARJUN:

Shree, what info have we about

Pavak?

SHREE:

Sir, he had just joined the police

force two months ago. He has a

wife and an 6 month old daughter.

Has no visible drug links as well.

ARJUN:

And the DGP?

RATHORE:

What? Arjun, are you ok? Its the

DGP goddammit! He is held in high

esteem by everyone-the

department,the people,the media...

ARJUN:

And by Pavak as well.

He flings Pavaks file on the table and his application falls

out.

ARJUN: (CONT'D)

Look at the column of

Inspiration-It has the DGP's name.

RATHORE:

So does that mean he cannot kill

him??

ARJUN:

No, it means it would have been

very difficult for him to kill him

for a flimsy reason like the drug

packet. Even if he was caught with

it,he could have easily lied that

they got in a raid..etc..why would

he kill him??

SHREE:

Sir, the DGP's record is also

clean. He had just recieved an

awards...so...

LISA:

Sir, the post-mortem is done. The

bullet was fired from Pavaks's

gun. But the strange thing is that

it looks like he did not want to

kill him..as in..the bullet was

not aimed at the heart. He was

suffering from an artery blockage

and thats why he got killed,other

wise the bullet just brushed past

his heart.

RATORE:

Well, he was a novice officer and

might have had a bad aim.

LISA:

Possible sir, but it looked like

it was aimed at his arm. The angle

hints at the possibility of the

DGP moving suddenly and then the

bullet hitting him near the heart.

RATHORE:

Strange. Why would Pavak just want

to injure him??

ARJUN:

Ayesha, get the evidences

collected from the crime scene.

AYESHA:

There is not much sir except the

drugs..and yes..there was a badge

with some school's emblem

discovered.

SHREE:

But that could be some passerby's.

ARJUN:

Or it could be of some witness.

Someone might have been there and

seen the crime happening. Lets

follow this lead guys!

AT GSIS SCHOOL

(CONT'D)

AYESHA:

Sir, can you tell us who this

badge belongs to?

PRINCIPAL:

The number behind the badge will

identify the owner. Give us some

time.

ARJUN:

Sir, this is a fully residential

school? Which means the movement

of students is restricted within

the campus?

PRINCIPAL:

Yes, except Saturday evenings,

when they are allowed to go

outside but only in school

uniform. Ah here is the

name-Anjali Mehra. Class X.

ARJUN:

Can we meet her?

PRINCIPAL:

Sure. You wait in the conference

room, I shall get her there.

SCHOOL CONFERENCE ROOM

A very nervous and visibly disturbed girl entered the room.

Ayesha helped her reach the seat and Sakshi got water for

her. Arjun tried his best to loosen up.

ARJUN:

Relax beta. We are just here to

ask a few questions. Were you

there on Link road at around 11

last Saturday?

ANJALI:

I don't know anything. Please let

me go.

AYESHA:

Yes, we will dear. You saw

something?

ANJALI:

He killed him. I ran away.

The team looked at each other. Arjun was keenly observing

the girl.

ARJUN:

And what were you doing there so

late?

ANJALI:

We had gone for a late night

movie. I had a major fight with my

friends and had left the theater.

I was waiting for a taxi..

RATHORE:

All right you can leave now.

AYESHA:

We are back to square one. Now we

even have a witness against Pavak.

RATHORE:

Hope this convinces everyone.

Rawte??

ARJUN:

I need to talk to Pavak.

(CONT'D)

Part 3:

Fade In:

THE ETF INTERROGATION ROOM

Arjun walked in keeping a firm eye on Pavak. He saw him

stare into nothingness. There was something so familiar in

this gaze.

ARJUN:

Pavak, I want you to speak.

PAVAK:

I have told you whatever I had to.

ARJUN:

But I want to know the remaining

story. Why did a academy topper

kill his idol? Why did a husband

risk this separation from his

wife? Why did a father agree to

lose face in his daughter's eye?

Inspecter Pavak,you realize the

consequences of your confession?

PAVAK.

Yes. Hang me.

Arjun lost patience. He banged the table and thundered.

ARJUN:

I will not let you become the

martyr that you want to be. You

have committed a heinous crime and

do not pretend to be great by

taking this stance. Are you not

ashamed of yourself?

PAVAK:

No.

ARJUN:

Ah...this was left! Right, so you

felt very proud when your patch of

honour was removed from the

uniform.

PAVAK:

You do not need to have a patch on

your uniform to have honour, sir.

Arjun was studying his face, melancholy and determination

written all over it. In normal circumstances he hated such

policemen, but could not hate the one sitting before him

ARJUN:

Pavak,you are doing something very

foolish. If you accept the

crime,then your connection to the

drug peddlers will come to public.

It will shame the entire

department. No one will ever trust

us again.

PAVAK:

No,they will. As long as you are

there.

ARJUN:

Stop the nonsense Pavak, do not

try and be a hero.

PAVAK:

I am trying to be the villain sir.

Arjun clearly irritated by the riddles. He is stopped by

Pavak as he walks out.

PAVAK: (CONT'D)

Sir, for the honor and glory of

the oath we both believe in, stop

the investigation and shut the

file.

Pavak stood up and saluted Arjun. He expected one from him.

Arjun stood with folded hands.

ARJUN:

I do not salute suspended

officers.

HE WALKS AWAY.

Part 4:

ARJUN'S OFFICE:

Rathore and Ayesha walk in and see Arjun lost in thoughts.

RATHORE:

Arjun, I understand. I admit I too

find this case very strange. But

we have no lead to follow.

Everything points towards Pavak.

ARJUN:

I am not trying to prove Pavak is

innocent. I am just trying to

understand his behavior. There are

just too many unanswered questions

here.

AYESHA:

There is another strange thing

sir. I was talking to the

sub-inspector and he said they

collected the badge from very near

the body. If Anjali was just a

witness..how could she be standing

literally at the center of the

crime spot??

RATHORE:

What if she is involved in the

murder and Pavak is shielding her?

AYESHA:

But the bullet is from Pavak's

gun. Why would she kill the DGP.

Shree did her background check and

her father is a rich NRI

businessman. Plus she is just a 16

year old student.

Arjun was fiddling with the batch in hand.

ARJUN:

There is some mystery to the

badge...

He checked the hook behind and saw that it was very sturdy.

He put it on himself and then removed it from his chest.

ARJUN: (CONT'D)

No...

RATHORE:

What is it Rawte?

AJRUN:

The badge is very sturdy and

tight. It could not have just

fallen like that...

AYESHA:

You mean someone planted it there

to mislead us.

ARJUN:

NO..I mean worse..someone...the girl

was..

There was an awkward silence for a moment. Ayesha looked at

Arjun and nodded. She understood and so did everyone else.

Part 5:

THE INTERROGATION ROOM

Sakshi and Ayesha were left alone with Anjali. Arjun and

Rathore stood outside with Shree. A lot of things were

racing in Arjun's mind.-"I am trying to be the

villain"."Shut the case"...

AYESHA:

Anjali,did you tell us the entire

truth that day.

ANJALI:

ah..hmm..yess..

AYESHA:

How did the batch come off Anjali?

She shifted uncomfortably.

ANJALI:

I don't know.

SAKSHI:

Tell us Anjali. We can help you.

We know what had happened that

night. We want to hear it from

you.

Anjali looked surprised to know that they already had an

idea. Yet she remained defiant. At this moment Arjun walked

in. Rathore looked unsure of Ajun's ability to handle the

delicate situation. He was about to go in and stop Arjun

when he heard his delicate voice:

ARJUN:

You will have to speak Anjali. For

the man sitting in the next room.

For the man who put his life,his

career, his reputation at stake

for someone he did not even know.

Speak. You owe him this.

At this Anjali's resolve broke. She sobbed and started

narrating a story which filled each one of them with

horror,shame,pity and admiration.

ANJAL:

I was waiting for a taxi when I

saw the DGP with Inspector Pavak.

They were standing on the road and

chatting. It was very deserted and

I was scared. I saw them in

uniform and approached them for a

lift. That is when the DGP told me

that he would need to frisk me for

searching...and he came forward

and held me. I was uncomfortable

and asked him to stop. That is

when he threw a packet of drugs at

me and said he could arrest me

now..

The ETF stood stunned there as they saw the pieces fitting

in.

ANJALI:

Thats when Inspecter Pavak asked

him to stop. But the DGP asked him

to either stay out of it..or..or

enjoy it. The badge came off in

the scuffle as i tried to free

myself. But he was very

strong...then Inspector took his

gun out and asked him to stop. But

the DGP only laughed and became

more aggressive. The inspector

repeatedly asked him to stop and

then I heard the gun shot...

Arjun closed his eyes and clenched his fist.

ANJALI:

Then he told me to run away and

never mention the incident to

anyone. But you found the badge

and I didn't know what to tell

you..so..I lied...

The ETF were too shocked to even console the weeping girl.

They were shamed as policemen,they were shamed as human

beings. Arjun was the first to leave. He went straight to

Pavak's cell.
