riya was getting discharged today from hospital. none from ETF was able to come, as there was some serious case going on. she said its ok, and was gathering her stuff, when the nurse entered.

though how much riya was pissed on that nurse for that "husband wife" remark, fact was otherwise she is very caring. she beamed to her as she entered, and riya smiled too in return. ab jane se pehle kya grudge rakhna?

"look who is here." the nurse said rather excited, and riya was like now what!

she turned, and...what the hell?

how come arjun rawte, the second in command of ETF able to come here? wrong question, why he is here? wrong question again, he skipped duty? is she dreaming?

the nurse left them alone, and arjun entered. riya was dumbstruck to see him, sensing this he himself closed the zip of her bag and took it in his hand. turning to her, he said in his usual husky tone, "itna shocked hone ki zaroorat nahi, rathore ne bheja hain."

riya was convinced and closed her mouth, as his earlier remark about muh mein makkhi ghus jayegi she still remembered. haah, if she knew arjun just lied to her. rathore never sent him, in fact he took leave, and didnt bother to tell rathore where is he going.

arjun hold her bag and riya turned to leave, when she felt he was supporting her by holding on her shoulder. she was surprised and stood in her track.

"now what?" he said rather irritated. she was little pissed too.

"sir, chot mathe pe lagi hain, pair pe nahi."

"oh," arjun gave her a weird look and thought for a sec, "tab to mujhe ye karna chahiye."

then, he did something which was rather unexpected...or expected? he kept the bag on floor, and called out for male nurse. the male nurse came running, and arjun gave him order to take the bag and keep it in ETF suv parked outside.

as the male nurse go, riya asked him, "mera bag male nurse ko ...?''

"main coolie thode na hoon." he said rudely. riya was pissed at this guy. sometime he is so sweet, and sometime...HMPH!

she turned to go toward door, and now arjun, instead of holding on her shoulder, hold her waist, pulling her close to him, shocking her more.

"what the?" she exclaimed. arjun gave her a pissed look.

"chillao mat, log galat samjhenge."

"ye karne ki zaroorat nahi."

"chup raho, warna utha ke le jaoonga. waise bhi, chup rehke to chal hi sakti ho tum, nahi?" he asked sarcastic, and riya shut up. the threat of picking her in arms made her further embarrassed. they both walked toward the SUV, arjun holding her tightly to him, and she blushing at this.

they sat inside suv and he started to drive. the journey was silent, both engrossed in their thinking.

arjun was continuously thinking whats wrong with him. he actually wanted to be gentle with her, almost like a lover, but of course she is not expecting any of this. so he is masking his behavior behind rudeness, if later she ask why he is doing all this, he can say he is doing as she was in hospital and weak. but of course he slipped sometime, for instance like the first night riya spend in hospital, he went too far by pecking her forehead. he wont do that kind of slip again.

the feelings went as both of them felt suv is making funny noise, and then out of nowhere it stopped in middle of road. they exchanged looks.

"kitni khatara gaadi hain. kharab ho gayi." riya said in irritated tone.

"excuse me?" arjun was offended. he admired this suv very much. he glared at her, and she frowned.

"mujhe ghrune se koi fayda nahi."

he looked away and come out of his suv. opening the bonnet, he tried to examine whats wrong with car, but of course, mechanic thode hi na hain! so he dont know what happened to it.

in the mean time riya also got out from car and looked at his face, trying to understand if he know why car broke down. he look at her, and glared yet again.

"riya! car se bahar nikalne ki kya zaroorat thi?"

"car ko kya hya?" she dodged the question and asked him, and he answered in irritated tone, "mujhe kya pata? mechanic thode hi na hoon."

"par mujhe pata hain." saying this, riya moved toward bonnet. pushing him slightly, she looked in it, tugging her hair lock behind ear. arjun admired her as she frowned, trying to see what happened to the car.

she sensed his gaze and looked at him. arjun quickly composed himself and asked in teasing way, "kya lady mechanic, got something?"

she scowled at his teasing but answered, "ek wire cut ho gaya hain."

"so you can fix it?" he teased more, and she now turned fully, facing him.

"i could have...but i dont think aapki gaadi mein koi toolkit hain, right?"

she was right, there is no toolkit in car. he didnt believe she knew something about fixing car, and looked at her in suspicious way. she rolled her eyes.

"uncle is crazy about cars. he can fix everything, so i also know a little." she said fondly, a smile on her lips. her uncle aunt are in kolkata, and she didnt let them know about her injuries. ever since she had to go USA for treatment, they are overprotective and jump at her slightest worry. she dont want to worry them further. they had already did so much for her after her parents death.

arjun's frown vanished, and he stared at her face one more time. riya looked away to clear her mind, and now it was her time to be sarcastic with boss.

"to, ab kya hum ab chal ke ghar jayenge?" she asked casually, and arjun was alarmed by it. he didnt want to let her walk from her room in hospital till suv, if he could he would have scooped her in arms that time, but controlled himself. Chal ke ghar jana? Forget it!

"ya phir...aap mujhe utha le jayenge?" she said casually again, but instantly bite her tongue regretting, as arjun's eyes snapped to her in surprise and amusement.

"not a bad idea actually." saying this he took a step to her, and she got stuck between him and suv.

"no way!" she almost shouted, her hand raising to stop him. arjun was so close to her that her hand actually landed on his chest. she was shocked to feel heartbeat under her palm. her eyes snapped to his, and she felt herself drowning in those.

time passed, and a sound of ringing snapped them out from their tiny eye lock session. it was arjun's cell, from rathore, who shouted on his irresponsible behavior to leave without telling anyone.

arjun finished the call quickly and asked rathore to send another suv for him, still not informing riya is with him. cutting the call, he turned to riya.

"suv ati hi hogi, sit inside."

she did the same and sit inside, her legs hanging from her seat, the door opened. maybe 5 minutes passed, and she got bored.

"sir, apka phone dijiye na."

arjun was like huh?

"phone." she repeated. he handed her over his cell, thinking maybe she want to call someone, but she started to surf his phone to find games!

"arghh, ek bhi acha game nahi hain." she said in irritation, and that time arjun finally realised the ultimate truth of the century, Riya Mukherjee is the craziest person he had ever meet in his life. she can easily surpass Miss Sakshi Anand in weirdness.

"tum game khel rahi ho?" he asked in disbelieve. she rolled her eyes without looking away from screen.

"obviously, aur kya karoon?''

as she got busy in game, forgetting time situation place, arjun just crossed his arm on chest and looked at her. its like became his habit from past 3 days, he watched her sleep, he watched her every move, he now know her facial expressions for every emotion. he smiled with her, he frowned if she frowned, he shift if she move a little, almost like magnet. when he become so attuned to her?

kitne paas hain him dono, phir bhi kitne door. they are literally at arms length, but at heart, they are so far...so very far.

as she leaned back on her seat's head rest and concentrated more in racing game, he concentrated more on her face, like its a interesting thing to read. his eyes linger on her forehead, her hair which was tied in a ponytail. he frowned at her bandage across head. instantly he drawn back to the day when the accident occured, her body covered in blood, her shallow breathing. he was never more scared in his life, after roshni's horrific death.

his face twitched in pain while thinking the harsh memories.

at the exact same time riya raised her head, only to witness arjun looking at her face with a unknwon emotion in his face, it was neither anger or happiness. it was blank, his eyes out of focus, like he is in some daze. she forgot about her game, and in a shock realised his expression is of pain. she was curious, but her heart ache seeing him in pain, dont know why.

arjun snapped from his dream like face, and saw riya staring at him concerned. he took deep breath and looked away, not wanting to scare her. she frowned, shrugged her shoulder and went back to game.

but he know, game was now out of riya's mind. she just stared at game, not focusing at it. she was more busy to think what was the memory which suddenly give her sir pain.

wait a minute, no. 1, her sir? when this happened?

no. 2, why she is so concerned?

she was confused at her thoughts. then suddenly she remembered her and dhruv first dinner date, and the info about arjun sir's wife's murder. maybe he got reminded of that.

she stole a quick glance at his face, her heart ache thinking about it.

arjun was now turning his back on her, but still he can feel her gaze on him. did she see his pained expression? how much did she see?

to spare him further headache of how much she saw, the SUV arrived. he helped riya to come out, not looking at her face as much as possible. taking her bag, he sat on the seat next to driver and ordered him to drive ahead.

she stared at him all the way to journey, not shifting her gaze for a second. arjun was occassionally seeing her watching him in mirror, and was uncomfortable. his mask of indifference was slipping away, and she was looking at him like trying to read through his soul.

he is trying now not to fall in love with her again, kahin firse pyar na ho jaye.

but how can he control himself when those brown doe shape size eyes are looking at him like that, so caring, so concerned, so loving?

Dil ko sambhal na muskil hain phir se mohabbat karne se.
