Arshad Khan - Action Behind the Director!
You all know that behind each moment, sequence, scene or a shot there are number of people involved. From a writer's perspective to creative people who develop the set up to the cinematographer who creates the right angles. However, there is one man or woman who is at the helm of it all and that is the Director. The job of a Director is to deliver a scene that translates the written word into an interesting visual and aiding him in this process are the artists who give a performance that is superlative, a Director of photography who creates the mood desired with lighting and camera work and creative team who give the necessary properties for the scene. Lets not forget that after the shoot has happened there is of course, the editing team who collates the shots and puts them in a manner that takes the scene to another level with right music, shots that are interspersed from a close-up to midshot to top-shots to what not.

Today, we speak of one such man. Arshad Khan. From Shh... Koi Hai to Saraswati Chandra, the journey comprises of series that perhaps puts him in the legion directors who create fabulous romantic moments on screen. Be it in Dil Mil Gaye, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Qubool Hai, Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon Ek Baar Phir or now you will see that happening in Saraswati Chandra. But beyond this there is also part of Arshad Khan that is all action. He has directed episodes of Arjun - Har Yug Mein Aayega Ek including the one with Narayani Shastri in the episode where a Police Woman is the killer. We have seen him feel exhilarated when he has to do an action sequence. And why is that was what we had once asked him and he had said, "He is a sports person by heart be it Boxing, Football or Cricket. And so action makes his adrenalin pump that much faster."

We have seen him run around in the dunes of Pushkar when he shot the Tadap Tadap sequence, or even roll in the hot sand to show Karan Singh Grover how he wanted the shot. And yes, what you may have missed in any of the Behind the scene was that he had thrown sand in air for the effect that he wanted. With endless energy, yes he does remind us of the battery that goes on and on, he is someone who always has a smile, a very pleasant disposition and never willing to let us take a clean shot of him with our camera. Yes, he is camera shy.

We asked him one of the best sequences he has directed in Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon and he said, the Diwali sequence with diyas and the one near the pool, "the almost kiss", even though he has enjoyed shooting for the show in its entirety. Same perhaps goes for Qubool Hai but we have seen the way he worked on the outdoor for the Arjmer segment and realised how passion drives him to take shots in sweltering heat, commotion of crowd and unrelenting sands that found its way in every cranny of one's being.
We also quizzed him about IPk, EBP and he said that he enjoyed shooting for the show as well and there are some moments in the beginning episodes that one can watch, which perhaps are his trademark. Now, we asked him what will he do with Saraswati Chandra and he replied that he did not plan as the show and characters are set and work his way through the script once he starts shooting which he did last week.

So, watch out for the show with Arshad Khan's nuances in a scene as we believe what he does is build a scene up and takes it to the crescendo. He will let the characters and scene speak to him and then translate that into visuals that will be amalgamation of shots, mood, set up and artists' individuality.
