CHAPTER 6:

Next day:

Arjun was waking up. He was feeling a bit dizzy. He looked around. He saw a man who was sitting in a sofa… he was sleeping. "ye wahi hai… jo kal yaha tha… par ye yaha kya kar rahe hai….?"

He looked around. The girl whom he saw yesterday was standing near the window… it looked as if she was lost somewhere… she looked tired. He looked her for a while. He tried to get up. His hands slipped a bit. "ah…"

Riya turned around immediately. She rushed to him "Kya kar rahe ho aap?" Rathod was awake now in the sofa. He too came in "kya hua Arjun?" all looked tensed.

He was confused. Who are these people? They supported to sit back leaning onto the pillow. He looked at them. "Sorry… but do I know you?" Riya felt her heart breaking again… they were silent. "aur…. Aap sab mujhe 'Arjun' kyu bula rahe ho?"

Rathod looked at Riya… she was silent. So he took over. "Dekho… its ok… I know tumhe sab bohot ajeeb lag rahe hai… but believe me… we are your friends. Kya tum hame nahi jaanthe ho?"

Arjun was again confused. He slightly held his head. Rathod was worried again. "hey.. its ok… zyaada socho math… tumhe aaram ke zaroorath hai…"

"par mein tum logon pe kaise viswas kar sakthe hai? I don't know you… aur mujhe jaana hai…" he tried to get up. Rathod stopped him. "nahi Arjun… ab tum kahi jaane ke haal mein nahi ho… please rest.."

"no mujhe jaana hai…" he was getting angry.

Riya was not sure what to do do. She held his shoulder. He looked at her. "acha.. aap jaana chahthe ho..tho jaayiye… par kaah jaana hai aapko?"

Arjun thought for a while. Yes, he didn't know where to go. Whom to meet .. what to do… he felt helpless… it was evident in his face… Riya could feel her eyes burning. But Rathod nodded negative. She wiped the tears…

"tum teekh keh rahi ho.. I don't know where to go… I dont know who I am… I think I am alone…"

"nahi Arjun … aap akele nahi ho… hum sab aapke saath hai…" he looked at her. She smiled a bit. He felt a bit relaxing.

"tho bathao…. Who am I? aur aap sab kaun hai? How do you know me? Kya hua hai mujhe?"

"slowly Arjun… slowly…we'll tell you everything… bas thoda shant hojao…" then Shree and Chotu came in… "sir aap uth gaye? How are you?"

He looked at them enquiringly. And then looked at Rathod. He took a chair and sat by his bed.

"ok… ab suno… tumhara naam Arjun hai… ACP Arjun Suryakanth Rawte.. tum abhi ETF…yaani… Emergency Task Force mein kaam kar rahe ho… mien ACP Sameer Rathod… ETF chief… hum bohot pehle friends the… training period mein…"he stopped for a while. He could feel a lump in his throat….

"aur ye Riya… hamare team ke research specialist… aur tumhare…" he stopped in between…

"mere kya…?" he looked at them. Rathod remembered doctor's words.

"tumhare bohot ache friend…" he felt sorry for Riya…. She turned her face away from them, unable to stand anymore. Shree caught her hands. He made her stand there. "no Riya… don't go…. He needs you.." he whispered to her. She stayed back.

"ye hai Chotu aur Shree… hamare team members… hum kaafi time se ek saath kaam kar rahe hai… you are a brilliant officer… imandaar.. no non-sense type… sorry to tell you… but tum kaafi khadoos bhi ho…" he smiled a bit hoping to relax the atmosphere. Arjun too smiled a bit…

"wow… ithna acha character sketch… kaash tum mujhe wo khadoos wala part nahi bathaya hotha.. mujhe kabhi yaad hi nahi hotha… aur shayad tum logonko koi problem bhi nahi hothe…" he smiled sadly.

"nahi Arjun… mien aise koi baath tumse chupaana nahi chahthe… because I want you back… jaise pehle the… bilkul waise…" he stopped for a while. "excuse me… mujhe jaana hoga… shaam ko milthe hai… Riya will stay back here…tumhe koi cheez ke zaroorath ho tho usse batha dena…" he stood and nodded to Riya. Trio went back leaving them.

Riya was watching Arjun silently. He was evidently disturbed. He closed his eyes for a while. She sat on the chair near to his bed, watching him… "take your time Arjun…. but please come back…" her heart said. They sat for a while.

He opened his eyes and saw her watching him. "sorry mere wajah se tumhe yaha rukhna pada… tum chaho tho jaa sakthe ho…"

"nahi Arjun, it's ok… mien yahi rukhthi hu…"

"so we are friends right?? Kaafi janthe hoge mujhe… so, how was I? I mean…. Sirf khadoos tha ya kuch aur?"

"tum mere zindagi the.. ho… aur hamesha rahoge…." She was lost in her thoughts.

"Excuse me… kaha kho gaye aap?"

"sorry… ha.. hum bohot ache friends hai… aap khadoos ho… lekin dil ke bohot ache ho…" she smiled.

"kithne ajeeb baath hai…ab mujhe apne bare mien hi puuchna padega…" he was sad. He lowered his eyes and saw the tattoo on his right arm. It was torn… he slightly touched it. Riya was worried. She knew he would ask about it. "ab mien kya karu…?"

"Roshni…?" he read the torn name. he looked back at Riya. "ye kaun hai? kya tum Roshni ko jaanthe ho?"

She was silent. "nahi… aapne kabhi unke bare mien nahi bathaya hai.." she lied to him.

"par hum friends the right? Kuch tho kaha hoga…" of course he had spoken to her about Roshni before. He had told his life story. That night they had smiled, laughed and cried in her memory.

"nahi… aap mujhe nahi bathaya tha… hamesha wo mark ek bandage se chupaya tha…" he looked back at the mark.

"hm… lagtha hai isse mien pyaar karthe the… shayad wo mujhe chod ke gaya hoga… isilye iss haal mien hu…" now he looked at the bandage that Riya had dressed the previous day. "aur ye chot…?"

"ye… kal laga tha… office me… glass toot gaye the… thab.." she remembered him hugging her and his promise. "ab ye sab ithne achaanak badal kyu gaye Arjun?"

He saw her lost in thoughts. "Riya… ek help kar sakthe ho?"

"ha bolo Arjun…kya chahiye…?"

"can you take me out of this room? Bohot ajeeb lag raha hai… this silence is killing me."

"sorry… I can't… kal hi tumhare operation huye hai… aaj baahar nahi jaa sakthe hai… sorry… but agar tum chaho tho mien aapse baath karthe hai…" she smiled.

"ok… then bathao… what was going on? Mujhe ye chot kaise lage?"

She spoke… he was listening intently. She left the portions when they were close… slowly he drifted to sleep… she caressed his hair… with tears overflowing from her eyes…
