Chapter 17

Sonia ran like she is running for her life. She crossed the bridge without paying a glance to the boatman rowing looking at the early hours of business. She then stopped and put her hands on her knees catching her breath. Slowly as her breathing went from accelerated to normal. It is complete silence with only the oar hitting the water sound. The air is cold almost chilly being the month of December. But sonia felt no cold. She felt sweaty almost filthy. It has been 6 months since the explosion. She shook her head to rid the mind of the fact. She opened her mind up and heard the boatman's thoughts . he wonders whether she is looking for a ride back to her house. Although, she is no mood for it but she knows that a boat ride is just the fastest way to her house. She hails the boatman and tells her address. Sonia sits on the boat and looks at the breaking in between the buildings. The sky is dark but the orange rays is seeping in hinting at the dawn coming up. Sonia sees this everyday but it still it satisfies, giving her something that she knew it might be futile

The boat stops in front of a regal mansion. The boatman helps her get off the boat. Seeing an armed guard coming towards her she nods at him. He stands there erect. She signs and pays the boatman double his fee. The boatman looks at her in astonishment and she smiles her dimple smile. The smile charms him and he thinks "now I will definitely wait to pick up this lady. Maybe I can earn some extra money." sonia says "I would appreciate if you do that." the boatman is stunned wondering how she heard his thoughts. Sonia did'nt bother and asked "can you be here by 11am?" the boatman nods his head. Seeing the armed guard coming towards him he immediately saluted sonia and started to row away. Sonia walked and while passing the guard said "no need to run a background check on him rogers. He's clean."Rogers replied " It is still a necessity your highness." Sonia gave him a stare which makes him squirm. Rogers said "but, every rule can have an exception." Sonia smiles and said "that's so sweet of you. now what would you like for breakfast?" and without waiting for his reply she walks towards the house.

The boatman rows down the alley feeling the weight of the money. As he rows he sees a man signaling to him. The man sits on his boat and the boatman asks for his address. But the man shows an even bigger wad of money which astonishes the boatman. At the end of the journey, the boatman has that wad of money in his pocket and the man walks away thinking "time has come to finish this game,sonia".
