Devi Priya gets conditional bail
NT Bureau
Chennai, Feb 16:
TV actress Devi Priya was given a conditional bail at the Madras High Court today when her lawyer presented a writ petition in which she promised the court that she would abide by its directions.
She has to present herself before the All Women Police station (AWPS) at Adyar for the next three days and extend all cooperation for the investigation against the charges being hurled at Devi Priya and her fiance William Isaac by the latter's former wives.
It may be recalled that both the actress and poultry farm owner William have planned to get married on 19 February. Hearing this, William's first wife Stella lodged a complaint at the AWPS at Adyar that her ex-husband was yet to return the 45-sovereign worth jewels and Rs 45,000 in cash that were given as dowry for their marriage. She pleaded for criminal action against William.
Following this, AWPS registered a case and began an investigation. William's mother Glory Jayaraj was arrested and a search was mounted to nab the absconding William. Meanwhile, there was another charge against the couple that they threatened Hemamalini, the second wife of William. And police began a manhunt to arrest the duo who went into hiding.
Devi Priya's lawyer R Krishnamurthy today filed a petition at the High Court today in which she declared William Isaac was known to her only as a producer and hence, was not aware of his other activities. Being a TV and film actress, she explained that her acting career would be affected 😆 (SHE SHOULD NOT OF HAVE MADE THIS MISTAKE ON THE 1ST PLACE) if she was arrested on the charges made by Hemamalini. Hence, she pleaded for bail against a possible arrest and assured that she would abide by the directives of the court.
When the petition came up for hearing before the High Court Judge R Raghupathy, a conditional bail was offered to Devi Priya who had to present herself before the AWPS, Adyar, at 10 am for the next three days and extend cooperation for the investigative officers.
