Part 5

It had now been a week since their engagement and Anu had grown quite comfortable with Anuj by now. She had grown very close to him and all his family members, they were her support system. Anu had never even dreamed to have such supportive in laws who adored her, were so caring and protective of her. She didn’t feel like she was getting married into that family but it was like she was born there. She was falling more and more in love with Anuj as the days went by. She thought it wasn’t possible for anyone not to love him seeing how mature, humble, lovable, adorable, respectful, gentle and generous he was. She could actually go on and on about all the good qualities he possessed and never stop.

Having Mukku in her life was like the icing on top. Even though she came across as a stubborn child, Anu was the only one she listened to, she would agree to anything just to make Anu happy with her. Anu found it really adorable how Mukku would just calm down and listen to her when she was around and how affectionate she was with her. The Kapadia’s were very relieved to see their bonding as well since they all feared that Mukku would be jealous of all the attention they were showering on Anu. Instead she turned into a mini bodyguard for Anu, absolutely nobody was allowed to say anything against her bhabhi. This endeared her even more to Anu who already treated her like a baby.

Anu was now getting ready for a party her papa was throwing tonight. Since the engagement was a private affair the Kapadia’s now wanted to make an announcement and introduce their Anu to everyone. They have invited all their relatives, friends and everyone in their business circle and it was going to be a big gathering. Anu was quite nervous at first but Meera and Anurag reassured her that Anuj would be with her throughout the party and she would never be left by herself, and she calmed down straight away as she knew how protective he was of her. The lehenga and jewellery Anu was wearing was sent by Meera and Anu knew that it was chosen by Anuj as it was the same colour she was wearing the first time he saw her.

When Anuj reached Anu’s house and saw her he was spellbound by her, she looked absolutely gorgeous and regal. He thought ‘I’m not wrong when I say she’s a queen, she definitely looks like one right now'. Even Anu lost her breath for a moment when she saw how dashing Anuj looked, he was wearing a black suit and a baby pink shirt which matched her lehenga. She thought ‘breathe Anu, remember to breathe! Agar behosh hogayi to party mein kaise jaegi pagal chokri?’ They both came back to earth and blushed at their own thoughts when Asha said "chalein Anuj beta? Hum tayar hain." Anuj cleared his throat and said “ji maa, chaliye..” He found it really hard to keep his eyes on the road throughout the way and was thankful they didn’t get into any accident when they finally arrived at his home. Anu was just mesmerised by how beautiful the whole place was, there were double gates which opened to a large driveway with palm trees on both sides which were all decorated with blue and white fairy lights. The long driveway ended with a round well lit water fountain facing a palatial mansion, there was also a huge parking lot on the side full of cars from their guests. This was the first time that Anu realised how rich and powerful the Kapadia’s were since they always came across so humble and down to earth and never showed off.

When they walked in, the party was already in full swing. Both men and women were dressed to the nines, especially the single girls who didn’t know about Anuj’s engagement. Mukku was the first one to notice them and ran into Anu’s arms followed closely by Anurag and Meera who came to greet them at the door. Anu hugged both of them and Meera kissed her forehead saying “bohot pyari lag rahi ho bacha, just like a queen".

Anuj who was still lost in his Anu said "exactly mummy, she is a queen isn’t she?” He turned red when he realise what he said and thought ‘kya keh raha hain Anuj? Control yourself and don’t embarrass Anu like this!’ Meera laughed and said “kya karoon main iss pagal chokre ka? Acha Asha ben aap hamare saath chaliye hum aapko mehmanon se milate hain.” She cupped Anu’s face and said “all your friends are here bacha, you and Anuj can spend time with them.. theek hai?”

Asha went along with Meera and Anurag while Anu was left with Anuj and Mukku. She hit his arm as soon as the grown ups walked off and started telling him off “yeh aap kya keh rahe the Anuj sab ke saamne?” Anuj said with a cute pout “sorry jaan, ab tum itni pyari lag rahi ho to kya karoon? Tum mein baar baar kho jata houn aur control hi nahi hota..” Anu smiled at him and replied “waise app bhi bohot zyada ache lag rahe hain". Anuj was on cloud nine hearin this and was grinning like a child who’s got his favourite toy.

Mukku who was tired of being ignored by her two favourite people said “aur main? Koi mujhe dekh bhi nahi raha..” she pouted cutely and crossed her arms. Anu hugged her and said “awww, my princess is the most beautiful one in this party, kitni cute lag rahi ho Mukku..” she kissed her cheeks. Mukku hugged Anu happily “thank you bhabhi, I love you so so soooooo much".

Anuj spotted their friends in the crowd of youngsters who were mingling separately from the adults and they all walked to them. Devika hugged Anu tight “tu kitni pyari lag rahi hai meri jaan!” Rajat told Devika “arey yeh ab tumhari nahi balki hamare bhai ki jaan hai! Kyun bhabhi sach kaha na maine?” Their whole group laughed while Anu and Anuj blushed but seeing his Anu not very comfortable with the jokes Anuj put a stop to it all “ab bas bhi karo, Anu ko koi pareshan nahi karega..”

While the group of friends were bantering and having fun they didn’t notice someone looking at Anu angrily. It was Vanraj Shah who had come to the party along with his family. He was fuming while seeing Anu looking so beautiful and confident having a nice time with her group of friends. He didn’t like seeing the fear he put in her eyes gone, they were now sparkling in happiness and he was fuming. He thought ‘yeh larki humse puche bina yahan kya kar rahi hai? Iski itni himmat? Abhi usse uski asli jagah dikhata houn!’ He had just taken one step towards Anu when his baa who could read him like a book held his arm saying “tu bahar gaya tha na? Iss liye tujhe bata nahi payi ke in logon ne rishte se mana kar diya aur kissi aur se rishta kar liya. Ab bhool ja isse aur yahan tamasha mat kar, tujhe pata hai na agar Kapadia’s ko hamari vajah se pareshani hui to unhe ek minute bhi nahi lagega humein barbaad karne ke liye. Lagta hai aaj unke liye bohot khaas din hai issi liye shaant hoja aur us ladki se door reh.” Vanraj nodded and followed his baa around like the puppet he was.

So I finally caught up with the latest update. This is such a sweet story! Your story is so well written that I could easily imagine MaAn as college sweethearts. Mukku is a sweetheart! And you compared vanraj to a puppet! Lol!

Part 6

Anurag and Meera went on stage with Mukku to make their announcement , he spoke in the mic “may I have your attention please? Sabse pehle I would like to thank you all for coming here today. We have invited you all today to welcome the most important addition to our family, our loving daughter Anu! Please put your hands together for our son Anuj and his fiance Anupama!”

Anuj held Anu's hand and helped her up the stage with a big smile on his face while everyone was clapping and all their friends were cheering for them. Both Anurag and Meera hugged Anu as soon as she joined them and Anurag addressed the crowd again with his arm still around Anu “yeh meri bahu nahi, beti hai aur Kapadia family ka ek bohot ahem hissa. I’m sure mujhe yeh kehne ki zaroorat nahi hai ke iski khushi aur sammaan humare liye kitni important hai. Mujhe umeed hai ke aap sab isse wohi izzat aur sammaan denge jo Kapadia family ko dete hain.” The whole crowd realised how important Anu was to the Kapadia’s and that nobody was allowed to mess with her.

Vanraj and Leela Shah were shocked to see the girl they wanted to turn into their maid under the pretext of marriage being treated like a queen and actually looking like one. They didn’t like the aura of confidence around her when she was surrounded by the Kapadia’s and were fuming at their inability to demean and hurt her. They were so lost in their thoughts when the Kapadia’s were going round meeting all the guests and introducing them to Anu that they didn’t even realise when they came up to them.

Anurag greeted them and told Anu “bacha, these are the Shah’s. Mrs Leela Shah and her son Vanraj. Inka bhi apna business hai aur inhe hum hi raw materials supply karte hain, 80% discount par.”

Anu folded her hands and greeted them without fear which Leela didn’t like at all as she was already fuming at the royal treatment Anu was getting and what Anurag just said added insult to the injury. She was unable to hold her tongue and said “yeh kaisi larki chuni hai aap logon nai? Isse itna bhi nahi pata ke baron ke per chu kar ashirwaad lena chahiye? Isse achi to hamari beti hai.”

Meera fumed hearing this and responded coldly “shayad aapne theek se hamari Anu ki introduction suni nahi, yeh bahu nahi beti hai iss ghar ki aur hum apni betiyon se per nahi chuwate. Anu se achi larki to hamare liye ho hi nahi sakti kyunki kuch bhi perfection se acha nahi hota aur hamari beti har tarha se perfect hai hamare liye. Mujhe umeed hai ke aap ainda meri beti ke bare mein soch samajh kar bolengi. Koi bhi maa yeh bilkul bhi nahi chahegi ke uski baaton ki wajah se uske bete ka nuksan ho, haina? Aage aap khud hi bohot samajhdaar hein.. aap log khana zaroor kha kar jayiye ga..” she wrapped her arm around Anu's shoulders and they all walked off leaving the Shah’s behind. Vanraj had never felt so humiliated in his life before, he had thought that his baa and he would be able to break off Anu's engagement but he had now understood that it was in his best interest to steer clear of her if he wanted to have any kind of future in Ahmedabad.

Once they were out of hearing distance from the Shah’s Anu shook her head and said “aap logon ne ye sab jaan booj ke kiya hai na? Aapko pata tha na ke yeh wohi log hain?”

Anurag wrapped his arm around Anu's shoulders and replied “haan bilkul! Jin logon ne hamari beti ko rulaya hai unhe bhi to pata chalna chahiye that they won’t get away with it.. aur waise bhi don’t you think ke hamara tareeka Anuj ke tareeke se behtar hai? Warna koi bhi uski jaan ko dekh bhi le to yeh janaab to apni hockey stick lekar nikal parte hai aur I always end up clearing his messes.” Meera and Anurag laughed seeing both Anuj and Anu blushing but as usual they were saved from more teasing by Mukku who asked “aap log kyun tang kar rahe ho bhai aur bhabhi ko? You know I don’t like it.. unhein to sirf main tang kar sakti houn ok?”

They all laughed and said “okay princess, as you say!”

Mukku then grabbed Anu's hand and said “chalo na bhabhi, mujhe aapko mere saare doston se milana hai. Woh log maan hi nahi rahe the when I told them ke aap bilkul pari ki tarah dikhti ho" she pouted cutely.

They all followed Mukku who introduced her bhabhi very proudly to all her friends. Seeing all her friends trying to fight for Anu's attention Mukku’s possessive side reared up and she said “mujhe ab bohot bhook lagi hai bhabhi, chalo na, let’s go for dinner" she grabbed Anu’s hand again and pulled her towards the buffet while Anuj and his parents just shook their heads and followed the girls. Anuj filled Anu's plate with all her favourite food while Anu did the same for him and joined their parents and Mukku who were already seated by the time they were done. Anuj pulled her chair out like a gentleman for her and sat down next to her after he made sure she was comfortable.

Asha noticed that Anuj waited until Anu had taken her first bite before he started eating himself, just like he had done on the day they got engaged. She was very thankful to get someone like Anuj for her daughter, who loved her beyond her imagination and treated her like a queen. She shuddered even thinking how Anu's life would have been at the Shah’s and prayed for Anu’s and Anuj’s happiness.

The six of them had a really nice family time during dinner with all the Kapadia’s pampering Anu and making sure she was eating well. All the Shah’s could do was watch helplessly from afar feeling defeated and they left along with all the other guests when the party ended.

Anu and Asha were sitting with the Kapadia’s now and everyone was exhausted. Anurag and Anuj stood up all of a sudden and asked “chalo batao kaun kaun chai piyega aur kaun coffee.. hamari Mukku to as usual hot chocolate piyegi, right Mukku?”

“Right!” she chirped.

Anu stood up and said “main bana deti houn..” before she could continue Anuj held her shoulders and made her sit back on the couch saying “bilkul nahi jaan, drinks to hum hi banaenge. Aap log bohot thak gaye ho, so you just relax.”

Our ziddi chokri tried to get up again while protesting “aap log bhi to thake hue hain na? To main bana deti houn..” Anuj pushed her down again while Anurag said “arey bacha humein bhi to mauka do aap sab ke liye kuch karne ka. Aisa kyun hota hai ke ghar ki auratein hi hamesha sab kuch karein aur kuch mard unki madad karna to door, unki mehnat ko appreciate bhi nahi karte. Humein yeh sab bilkul bhi acha nahi lagta issi liye hum sab kaam karte hain. We love pampering the ladies in our life. Tumhari mummy aur Mukku ko adat hai, tum bhi adat dal lo kyun ki iss mamle mein hum kissi ki nahi sunte.”

Anu laughed with tears in her eyes saying “aap aur yeh shayar Kapadia meri adat bigar denge papa.”

Anurag kissed Anu’s forehead saying “Adat bigarenge nahi bacha sudharenge! hamare samaaj mein logon ki yeh soch hi galat hai ke auratein hum se kum hain aur kamzor hain aur unhein daba kar rakhna chahiye. Agar log apni yeh soch badal de na bacha to jaane kitni masoom larkiyon ki zindagi savar jayegi Acha ab yeh sab choro, chai piyogi ya coffee?” Anu smiled and said “chai" and all the others said what they wanted as well after which Anurag and Anuj went to make the drinks without anyone’s help.

All the ladies enjoyed the drinks which the men made and relaxed feeling very blessed to be part of this family.
