Part 3

Anuj was restless for hours after the doctors had left. Not seeing her, being with her, hearing her, teasing her and just plainly watching her was killing him from the inside. She had become one of his most beautiful habits and he didnt want to let that go at any cost. He asked the nurse when he would get discharged and what was Anupama's status but he was greeted with a shrug and silence. Assuming her to be a newbie he let it pass but this was thoroughly irritating him, would someone just clarify things here so that he could go out and meet Anu and also fetch whoever was responsible for this. After what seemed to him like decades there was finally a sane person who ensured that he would get his discharge by the end of the day after which he could go and see Anupama who was still in the ICU as off now. The tears he had been holding off till now had finally made their way and marked his face with utter despair. He had finally wiped his tears after almost an hour when all the water in his body had dried away and then had firmly made up his mind that this was all he had to give to the tears, now all he would do was pray and hope for her.

After his enquiry he had found that his cash and a few of Anupama's jewelry were missing but apart from that everything was in its place. This again made no sense at all. He had a few hunches and had made it a point to invest all his time in verifying them. There was no way that the people who did this were getting away untouched. No one, absolutely no one has the right to hurt his Anu and get away with it unharmed.

These morons have created trouble but in a way it was good that it happened. Now they would never interfere but if it backfires then I would sadly have to take drastic measures.

Anuj finally got his discharge and the first thing he did was that he rushed to see her. She was in her ward right now but after immense pleading he had got the permission to go meet her. He sat by the chair and held her hand. She was clipped on to oxygen, there were bandages on her head, her hands were clipped on various needles supplying blood and saline. Looking at her he felt something inside his break and he was almost sure it could be visible to anytone who would see. He wanted to redirect his energy, instead of being sad he wanted to use her state as his driving force. A surge of anger coursed through him. He spent sometime by her side, looking for any movement and hoping against hope for her to just open her eyes and assure him that he wont be left alone again but it did not happen so he had returned home to grab some clothes and food for himself and take a nice long shower. He had then informed everyone of their condition and at once Devika, G.K , Mamaji, Bapuji and all the children had rushed to the hospital with depressed faces. He had returned to the hospital to answer all the questions that they had and after ensuring that there was always someone with her at all times, he had set his course towards his office. He felt grateful in that moment for the amount of support he had received from both his friends and family, who always stood by them in their decisions be it them announcing their marriage or Bapuji, Mamaji, GK and the children almost shifting to the apartment next to theirs. They stayed there all day and just returned to the Shah residence to sleep. Vanraj, Baa and Kavya had showed their disagreement regarding this but no one had payed attention to them, after the initial tantrums that they had shown everything had settled eventually by them accepting the fact that they had been royally ignored and there was no use creating unnecessary drama.

Anuj on reaching his office had immediately contacted a few people who could help him in finding the people who had attacked them and while he was on it he had gathered a few clips and documents, called a few people to meet him urgently and was brainstorming about all possible moves and plans he needed. He would drop by at the hospital every 2 - 3 hours to check in on her and he always found someone or the other at her side. After taking his soulful glance at her he returned to his work and after a whole day of work he had planned a few things. He had returned to the hospital to spend the night there just when he received a call...

After hanging up he had a smirk on his face. Well well... what do you know, just as I thought. We will meet soon little devil and this time it wont be decent.

-Dont fret about it, do what you must I just want one thing and you know what you are getting in return so make your moves wisely. I want it done once and for all

-Yes, sure. But he has woken up and I dont think he will stay still. He will try to find out

-Does he have any proof ?

-No

-Then dont worry, he will wriggle for a while and then go back to his business. He cannot do anything, but still be careful and beware lest I fall in trouble because of you. Next you call me only when necessary, am I clear

Finally after an entire week of anticipation and constant prayers, I got the good news, the doctors informed me that Anu was fine now and that her condition was her condition was more stable than before and she was expected to make a full recovery. It felt as if I was finally able to breathe after a long time, this news was the only good one that I had received in a while so I immediately rushed to her room and took her hands in mine.I knew that she could not hear me but still I continued to say,

Anu please come back to me I cannot live without you this one week has been plain torture for me, please come back to me as fast as you can, I need you.

I had a tears in my eyes while saying this but I could care less the only thing that mattered to me was her health and her well being.I had a new hope that she will come back to me and an even better plan for her after she wakes up. After having my not so satisfactory share of absorbing her presence, I left for the office. I had taken work from home for a few days just to be with her and now that she was stable, I decided to go back so that I could complete the work at hand.

I had appointed a P.A for myself after my marriage because earlier I had no desire to go back to an empty house and work was my only priority but now with the expanding of the business and other things being at the top of my priority list, I had opted to choose for a P.A to help share my workload. It had been a tiring task to hire one though because no one seemed dependable enough, not that they weren't qualified, it was just that they didnt connect with me and if I wanted a P.A I wanted him or her to be trustworthy so that I could share important details with them without any hesitation. I should have easy camaraderie with them as they would be with me 24/7 and I didnt want to work in an uneasy environment. I had a few more conditions regarding the post and no one had qualified for it satisfactorily.

It had been precisely 44 days after my wedding when someone knocked on the door. A handsome young man with an imposing personality, perfect build and an even better vibe entered the office. His first impression was rather vivid in my mind. I had an instant liking to the boy, I interviewed him for almost half an hour which was one of the longest ones till date.

-Lets begin, shall we. Take a seat and begin with your name.

-My name is Zain Nasim Qadir

-Ok tell me about youself and your background

-This is my first job and I have recently completed my studies from Dubai. I returned to India as it was my birthplace and my parents are currently living in Mumbai. Other than this all my details are available in my resume.

- Fair enough. This is your first job you say but according to the resume its been almost 9 months since you returned to India. Any special reasons for this delay.

- If you want me to be honest then I did try in a few places but looking at my caste and the place I have studied from, most people dont give me an opportunity moreover its visible that they lack trust in me. Even if I get the position due to a handsome resume, I decline because I would not like to work in an environment where people are so narrow minded.

-I see. So what makes you think that I am any different?

- I dont think you want an answer to that because even after listening to me if you are openly asking me this question, it says that you want me to doubt you and I dont pre create impressions. Also your way of saying it expressed that it was a challenge for me. You want to see whether I have started hating people because I am not getting jobs but it is not the case Sir. I can easily start my business if I want to but this is my passion and I want some experience before I venture in that world. Also frankly I do my fair share of research before appearing for an interview and you didnt strike as a biased man to me, though I could be wrong but the moment I introduced myself,you seemed to be rather fond so I had a gut feeling that my research was not wrong after all

- (Smirking)Impressive.I take it that I am the only one you are sharing the story with

- Yes Sir

- So particularly what brings you to the A.K Group?

- Being a part of A.K Group is definitely not a small thing. Along with the name and expanse, A.K Group has the quality. The apartment in which my parents live is one constructed by your company in partnership with Tata and its a beautiful home. Apart from that my motive is you Sir. You were a part of our syllabus a few years back and I distinctly remember being curious about you and at that time almost all my batchmates were. I already had my dad as a role model but you were definitely next on my list and being here is my fate as I see it. This is not a way of buttering you Sir, if you feel so, I am being genuine about this.

- Thank you for the kind words Mr.Qadir. I am humbled

Anyways continuing, What would you do if I suddenly took a leave for an entire week

- It wont be that bad actually. Being your P.A I will have access to mostly all your information and updates which makes me at par with you. If you happen to take an immediate leave then I consider myself capable to manage the office for the time period. Dont get me wrong,I dont plan to take over your business Sir

- ( Smiling) Seeing that you can handle humour. Tell me honestly if you would curse me for leaving the workload on you and leaving without any explanation

- (Grinning) Sir you would not have singlehandedly created this renowned empire if you were to just leave without a note which makes you a responsible person. If you are taking a leave then it could be a vacation or an emergency. In that case I would wish you a very happy vacation because after years of tireless hardwork you deserve it and in the second case I would help you in any way I can. Speaking of the workload, I think I can work a little extra if required. This is actually the time I spend working sincerely because I believe that I can have rest when I am not capable anymore but till the time my body and mind support me, I wont back down from giving my best. Till the time I remain to be single, I remain to be loyal and hardworking but after that maybe I would share my attention with my wife.

- Are you getting married soon?

- (Chuckling) No Sir, I believe I still have time for that. These few years I want to concentrate only on my career and work and I will get married in a few years thats when I can take a break. I am affirmative about it.

- Very optimistic I see. But what about my personal life. Would you assist me even in that

- Only if you want me to. I am not very intrested in meddling in other peoples private space unless they want me to.

- You are a smart boy Zain. Consider me thoroughly impressed. Looking at you, you came prepared to grab the job. I can happily say that its yours.

- Thank you Sir. When can I begin?

- Whenever you like, but wont you ask me for your pay.

- As I said, my family is well off and I am not looking for money but experience. I will be happy in what I get and my position that I just received is not one where I will be struggling to sustain so I am sure I will be geting more that I could ask for. Another thing is that I want to keep a surprise element when I get my salary.

I will be here tomorrow 8 a.m if you dont mind

- (Smiling)I am eagerly looking forward to working with you young man

- Same here Sir, since years

As he left, I had a satisfactory smile on my face. He was the one, I knew it. He was not only understanding but also honest. His attitude and knowledge were perfect for the post. All others were either here for the money or were more than willing to meddle in my life. This boy had determination,humour, sincerity and confidence. I already know that it would be a joy working with him.

Zain had called to update me on the work front.I thanked him and asked him to meet me at the office in 5mins, I had an important task to assign to him.

5 mins later, Zain entered in my cabin with a few documents I had asked him to bring. He handed them over to me and got seated in front of me. I examined them carefully and made a few calls while Zain just looked at me in confusion. Zain was now like a family member, only after 4 months of him working with me, he had made a special place in my family. He was trustworthy, loyal, understanding, reasonable and a very good friend and companion. Even Anu treated him like her brother, so I thought about telling him about everything that is happening and everything I plan to do. I asked Zain to bring a few prints of some important papers and asked him to deliver it to a specific address and he understood the entire situation when I explained. The good thing was that he didnt question my intentions or action,he just supported me and did as I said.

While leaving he saw a letter on my table and asked me if I wanted him to post it. I shook my head in negative and told him that this letter was for someone special and he could post it after he had shown it to him. He just smiled in response and left but not before informing me about an important meeting I had to attend in the evening. I shook my head in acknowledgement and asked him to take the day off if he wanted because he had been working extra hard from the moment he knew that me and Anu were in the hospital. He affirmed and left.

It was almost 6 pm when I left for the police station. I reached there in 10 mins and enquired about the whereabouts of the prisoners. The police officer led me to a cell and my blood immediately bolied on seeing the faces of those shitheads who dared to touch his Anu but he kept his calm. He asked for some alone time with them which he was granted after he promised to fund the officer's childrens education.

- Lets get straight to the point now shall we. I simply want to know who was the one who touched my Anu and dare you if you lie. The consequences wont be very pleasing.

- I di...din...didn't do it. It was him,he was the one, a man said pointing to another one who held his head low.

- And you were the one who hit me,weren't you?

- The other one sprang his head up and said, Yes Yes he was the one.

-You were smart he said pointing to the one who had hit him. But you on the other hand were not so smart he said pointing to the man who had hit Anu.

- Now, you will pay for the consequences well enough but before that I want to know who told you to do so?

They both looked at each other and kept quiet. I want the name now, Anuj's voice boomed throughout the cell and the captives were found shivering under his threatening aura. They at once revealed the name of the person who had asked them to do it.

Anuj stood up from the chair he was sitting on and placed his forearm on both their neck simultaneously and pushed them against the wall. He was gaining all his strength and anger from seeing his Anu in that condition and he was able to choke both of them at once. When he thought that they were about to loose their breath, he just left them in the nick of time.

- A fair piece of advice, never come near me and my Anu again or else I won't hesitate to remove even the last of your breath from your body. Another advice is to stay away from that man. He will drown himself and also take yall with him.

They both nodded their heads while catching their breath. I kicked the one who had hit Anu in his stomach and left the cell. I asked the officers to file a complaint against them on charges of attempted assault, Assault or criminal force with intent of gaining fortune.I dont want them out of there soon, they should never touch anyone ever again,I want them to learn that lesson ,I stated. Everyone nodded obediently and I left from there.

Its time little devil. We finally meet.

Okay just before I get too busy. A not so good update just because I felt like it. Sorry if I obsessed over the new character, he seemed pretty good in my head. Btw let me know what you think about him.
