He was in deep slumber, the darkness pulling him into it he almost wanted to give away but then a streak of white light hit him, it was painful and he didn't want to go but slowly and gradually the white light engulfed him as a whole and he woke up with a jerk and as he gained consciousness he could feel pain and an emptiness. He then tried to recall what had happened and as soon as it had hit him he searched around for his love. He started to panic all sorts of dark thoughts started crossing his mind but he was adamant he could not lose her like this it just wasn't fair. He kept searching and found her in a very bad state near the bush where the puppies had been. He could not believe what his eyes were seeing, she was bleeding and her head was covered with blood. He went close, her clothes were strangled, there was blood all around HER BLOOD! His vision was getting blurry but he could not give up his conscience mind said but his emotions were all over the place he could not control himself he had to do something this just wasn't right. They didn't deserve this especially on their anniversary so he quickly call the ambulance as the first thought crossed his mind. By the time they arrived, he had removed his coat and tie and tied it around her injured head. Tears were rolling down his eyes and he wasnt able to control it. How could he, the person who he could not see with a scratch was lying in front of him in this state. He almost blamed himself,how could he let that happen, he was there with her wasnt he. He could have protected her , should have never let his happen but it had and he was just left with a deep void within himself and suddenly his head felt heavy and darkness again took over as he dropped into nothingness.

He did not know when, where and how much time later he had woken up but as soon as he steadied, he could feel something. Something was missing inside of him he could not place it but as his eyes opened wider, he looked around and he could see that he was plugged on to some wires and a bed. All the white walls around him seemed to be indicating to him that he was in the hospital and immediately his thoughts rushed to her. Where was she, he had to meet her right now even if it was the last thing that he did. He desperately tried to move away but then a person came and stop him and advised him that he was in a really bad state and could not move. He was taking nothing right now, seeing her was his topmost priority. He asked for her but they didn't tell. This was no time for silence, he wanted to hear, he then asked louder but still no response.
" Look if you dont tell me about her right now, I will tear this place down to shreds and I dont want you to regret anything that you say or do, so choose your words and actions wisely. Now you have 2 mins to tell me exactly where my wife is and what condition she is in. Got me?"
He threatened. All the doctors just nodded like lost puppies, they knew Anuj Kapadia would do as he said. He never used his power and voice in the wrong way but they had for the first time seen him like this. His aura was threatening and his piercing gaze made everyone shiver. All of Ahemdabad knew of his love for his wife, their wedding had been a grand affair and all his gestures and words both personally and professionally had clearly shown that his love for his wife would always exceed anything that was and will be in his life and the doctors had feared facing his wrath if they told him of the dire state of his beloved wife.
Fast he ordered as all of them looked at each other to see who would say it first but another roar from him and the doctor handling her case had spoken up.
Sir your wife is not in a good state,she has been badly injured near her head and ribs. Someone has rammed her head in a wooden plank and then struck her with a stick after she fell unconscious. You have also been hurt in the same manner but you only have an injury on your head a few scratches on the body which will heal eventually but she is in a critical condition. She has lost a lot of blood and we are currently supplying her with blood but nothing can be said right now.
The doctor was shivering while he said this, he had taken a single breath and spilled it all out in a single go not wanting to look at Anuj as he was sure he would have stammered if he would.
After hearing all this Anuj was quiet for a long time. The doctors took it as a que to leave but he stoped them and asked them if he could meet her.They advised him to rest for the next 24 hrs and maybe after that he could meet her. Anuj was confused, part of him wanted to turn back to her and beg her to come back to him,stay with her and cry with her and another part was scared.Scared as hell to see her in that state , he knew if he would see her in that state it would break him from the inside. He was ready to take the risk because the urge to see her and ensure for himself that she would come back to him overpowered everything else he felt and he requested the doctors to shift his bed to her room. Sir actually mam is in the ICU,we are sorry but you have to sign a few papers as formality for us to continue with her medical procedure. He knew what what written in all such formalities that the hospital should not be held responsible and blah blah but he had warned them that just as a protocol he was signing the paper but he wanted his Anu back with him at any cost. He had made it crystal clear that they could do whatever they liked to bring his Anu back to him just like before. Another thing, I want to meet Anu as soon as possible, do whatever you have to, break some rules if you can but I want her in front of my eyes as soon as possible and please this is a request. Just once please he had said with utmost sincerity. He didn't want to act irrationally lest he create unnecessary drama because in the end what would happen would happen and he could not stop it. He just wanted to do whatever was best in Anupama's interest.
We will try our best Sir is all they managed to say because they had seen many husbands lose their wives and many families lose their loved ones and all they could offer was words of condolence.
Once left alone Anuj couldnt place what had happend in the last 24 hrs. They were happy and were about to spend some quality time together and then all this happened. It all seemed so abrupt, there seemed to be no cause behind it and he had to ask the doctors if his valuables were missing. He didn't want to think about it. He knew, it just couldnt happen, they could not end like this. He had waited 26 long years for her and he had no regrets but he held on to even the tiniest hope that he could find because the connection he had with her told him that she would be fine. He didnt want to think of it in any other way and it was final.
Anuj then closed his eyes to drown in her thoughts when he flew them open once again. If he was right then there were people out there who were just waiting to get into deep shit...

We were walking hand in hand and then those puppies came and then we were returning and suddenly the warmth of Anuj's hand seemed to be missing and I looked at him fall to the floor and immediately crouched down to him.
Anuj! Anuj! Wake up please!
And then from no where 2 men just emerged from behind Anuj and I quickly dialed the emergency number as that was the only rational thought that crossed my mind after seeing Anuj sprawled on the floor. I ran as fast as I could and just before I could yell HELP! on the phone, I felt a pang and then darkness pulled me in its emrace with the final image of Anuj in front of my eyes.
