Like/Dislike/Neutral Week 7
I have been watching this serial online on and off. What I like most is that there are more comedy/humour scenes than the usual crying/sad scenes present in most serials (at least for now). I really like all the actors and actresses (especially their sense of timing in comedy sequences). I also more or less enjoy most of the characters with the exception of Andal's father who just irritates me with his conservative thinking for a man who is supposedly highly educated.
Now for a pet peeve...
Andal being a doctor (that too apparently educated in a good US medical school) is a such big part of the story. I wish that the director or writer did a bit more research in how to properly do CPR so that when the actress does it on screen, it does not look ridiculous. Just about nothing about the CPR that she did to save Azhagar's father seemed right. I'm not a doctor but have done one of those basic courses where you do CPR on mannequins.
Firstly she immediately started chest compressions without even checking if the pulse is present first - you do not do compressions if the pulse is present. This is ok for a layperson but not for a doctor.
The location where she placed her hands to the compressions is wrong - you compress the breastbone (middle of the chest) and not directly over the heart. The way and angle from which she was doing the compressions would not have generated enough force for proper compressions as well.
Then she checked the wrist for the radial pulse when it is recommended for professionals to check the carotid pulse at the neck - sometimes the radial pulse is not easily discernible.
The most ludicrous part however was her giving breaths of air through a clenched fist. I snorted when I saw that. The point is to get oxygen into the patient's lungs and for that you need to pinch the patient's nostrils until closed and completely cover the patient's mouth for a proper seal so that there is no leakage of air out and the air actually gets down into the patient's lungs. The way that she did it, all the air would have just leaked out through her fingers. If the actors are not comfortable doing it the correct way (and that is perfectly fine), then just show her doing just the chest compressions.
I know that this is nit-picking but seeing improper CPR techniques on screen really bugs me. It is not as if you cannot google or youtube the proper techniques these days. Especially since Andal is supposed to be a doctor and not a layperson.
Hema thanks for the lovely update
