The Raid

Folks, a rather serious story for you this weekend but one with a happy ending. It does have some typical Tamil movie elements but I hope you enjoy it all the same.

Priya was fiddling with the buttons on the remote control as the clock signaled midnight. Sleep was eluding her. It had been three days since she had moved to the hostel after a showdown with Shanthi and Arjun. They were both upset over the police raid at Shanthi's house even though it had not uncovered any evidence of contact between Priya and Priyan. Shanthi had admonished her for her behaviour, using uncharacteristically strong language, which stung Priya badly. The characteristically impulsive Arjun, for his part, had been on the verge of slapping her when good sense prevailed and he checked himself. Priya could take it no more. She was already peeved by Arjun's less than discreet effort at keeping tabs on her to ensure she had no illicit contacts with Priyan. So, she packed up and left Shanthi's house soon after the showdown. She had no inclination to talk to Shanthi in person and simply left her a note thanking her for having generously played host for the past five months and apologizing for having tarnished the RK family name ...
