Anyhow, I was just thinking of another alternative scenario. A bit more dramatic than yours. ACD somehow manages to barge into Shanthi's home to see Priya. Shanti is out. Priya is, of course, in a foul mood. AC tries to convince her that he was only doing his duty, that he loves her, cannot live without her, blah, blah, blah. Pleeeeeease forgive me, he pleads, with that famous pained look of his.

Priya accuses him of having been responsible for her dad's death, having no faith in her, and not being sincere, blah, blah, blah. Her temper rises.

ACD tries to keep his cool but eventually he cannot. He angrily strips off the epaulettes on his shoulders and says if his duty is what stands before him and Priya, then to hell with his duty.

Priya is shocked and freezes for a moment. Then, she slowly bends and picks up the epaulettes and looks at them for another minute (Cheyar, as we all know is famous for holding us in minute-long suspenses). Then slowly she walks up to ACD and carefully pins the epaulettes back on his shoulders, reprising her flag-day role. "I will forgive you only on condition that you resume your duty", she says. Overcome by emotion, AC hugs her and cries on her chest.

Alumunju also sobs. She then says, "You must promise me one thing though. Arrest Priyan and let justice take its course. But do not kill him, please". ACD agrees.

The next several episodes see ACD and Priya civil towards one another but it's not back to normal yet. Priya has forgiven, but not forgotten and cannot think of marriage.

Then one day, the law closes in on Priyan. ACD and he are in a face-off in a dilapidated building. The bungling police backup is late; the jeep has had a flat. Both Priyan and AC have whipped out their guns. AC tells Priyan to surrender himself but Priyan uncorks his gun. AC recalls his promise to Priya and urges Priyan to redeem himself. Priyan suddenly pulls the trigger and AC collapses in a pool of blood. The police backup arrives and arrests Priyan.

Eee on eee on. Siren. Flashing ambulance lights. ACD in ICU. Priya rushes in and does her alumunju thing. She asks AC why he did not shoot to defend himself. AC says he could not go back on his promise to her because he loves her so very much. Priya then realizes the extent of his love for her. He has redeemed himself in her eyes finally. Priya now fulfills Madhu's dream and plants a kiss on AC's lips, part of which are bandaged. It's a kiss of life. And he survives.

Unfortunately, I think Cheyar Ravi will have Priyan play the peacemaker between ACD and Priya, which will be rather boring. The man will bring them back together and then will die as the thiagi.

Giri, what subject is ACD lecturing? It must be criminal psychology since Priya is doing an MA in psychology and he couldn't have specialised in anything else relevant. (But, of course, he can switch to teaching engineering as she can switch to learning that subject, right? Anything being possible in Cheyar's world?)
