Kunal Ganjawalla had received numerous offers to judge music reality shows but it's only when Voice of India Chhote Ustaad was offered to him, that the singer said yes. Any special reason?
"I didn't want to be a part of a show where all the powers lie with the audience. What are we there for then? " he asks. So when he realised that this particular show did not follow the same format, Kunal was more than glad to be part of it, along with the likes of Pritam and Shreya Ghoshal. And no, Kunal promises that there won't be any showdowns between the judges. "There's no ego between the three of us. We might have different opinions but we don't fight. And anyways the show is about these kids, not us. At the end of the day, we want some music composer or director to notice their talent. That's why we're trying to make it a talent contest rather than just a reality show," explains Kunal.
And unlike some shows, Kunal says that there are no pre-set roles given to anyone here. "Someday one of us is harsh, the next day that person is sweet. Nobody has a role, we're all just being ourselves," he clears the air. Considering that so many of his counterparts are there on the small screen judging music talent hunts these days, what does he think of this trend? "It's a good trend and it shows that the music industry's opening up," he opines. But the singer's not in favour of singers competing between themselves. "That's a complete no-no as far as I'm concerned," he adds.
As far as his playback career is concerned, the going seems to be good for Kunal, what with films like Race, Cootchie Coothie Hota Hai, Roadside Romeo and One,Two,Three in his kitty. Kunal's also going to bring out an album along with wife Gayatri soon. "We both have been sining so many songs together that we thought we should bring out an album together too. Musically we're quite different but we both know where wecome from and that love and fun translates into good music," he adds with a smile.
