Bee, you and I have had lively discussions in the CB forum and I was a frequent visitor to this forum but made a choice of remaining a silent forumer. I have watched the shows more than you may think and read at times when I couldn't watch.
Indian society in India has changed more than we imagine living in the US, and some of the reasoning for the difficulties faced by Simi and Abhi as an older woman, younger man just does not fit the mold. It was ridiculous for the neighhbors to protest on the aangan of Rajinder Sethi's home. Who do they think they are? Neetu can have pre-marital sex and get pregnant and it is more acceptable than Simi marrying Abhi? And Simi with her triple masters and quadruple PhDs cannot make lucid arguments or open her mouth to say she stands by her decision and that she is married? It is getting wierder and wierder. I understand sacrifices made for family better than acting silly, posing silly arguments. As you know I am such a feminist and at times the situations Simi finds herself in b/c she is KBian (lives in KB) borders on the ridiculous. You are right. Such arguments may dumb Simi and Abhi but they dumb the viewers more!
Gardes,
Thanks again for your honest views.
There are 2 things from you post, that I would like to put my views on -
1. Neetu's pre-marital sex and her family's reaction. What family you may ask? Yes no one in that household has a say other then Manju. So, this "society-caring" Manju, doesn't think Neetu needs a slap but Simi does because she took
pheras with her lover. I too do not understand what kind of selective liberal views are those!
2.Neighbhor's throwing stone at RS' house. Even though such incidents anger me, I explained off in my episode review of 27th jan 10 and later as a reply to Shanti's comments in the thread
My thoughts.
Yeah I too had problem with Simi dumb acts and kept okaying ... you know when you like a show and are emotionally attached you keep forgiving. At the same time one has to see the reality too. Simi waiting till Abhi's death to blurt out was too much. All those lousy blood and gore wasn't required for a normal middle-class living family. It was totally uncalled for and this happened because of the dumbness written for this character by writers.
