I am not a regular Indian soap watcher, so not in a position to comment on what brings in the ratings or how the show compares to others of its kind. Infact I caught KB by accident one day flipping channels while my baby took a nap (Im in the UK and hence a week behind, but for these updates here).... However Ive repeatedly come back for more and gone through the trouble of finding this board to discuss it, for the very premise you talk of. A together 22 yr old (I thought he was 24-25 initially, so i feel a bit conned there!) falling for a frumpy 30 yr old (again, i thought she was 28!)... the idea of going beyond appearances n all that fluff is appealing! Highlly unlikley but not impossible and up unitl now I was happy with the treatment (the moment of confession could've been better but I swallowed it). I even believed Abhi fell for Simi! Hes told her he found her attractive and smart and he confessed to guruji that he respected her selflessness, cheesy but possible, if only for the novelty of it....he is afterall surrounded by materialistic selfish people!
But im nearly about to find something better to spend my precious moments of free time on! It s not convincing enough anymore...I am detesting the ugly-word spitting loony house-breaker (the ghostly make-up is definitely not helping) and the over-controlled self-righteous 30 yr old! There's a limit to my suspension of disbelief!!!
Belle, from the UK? Spent the best part of my life there. You said it perfectly, I do feel conned that the ages have been changed. A 24-25 year old and a 30 year old woman is believable, but a 22 year old?? I think the double whammy of the "I love you" and the age drop was too much. The writers didn't even do anything to make the whole concept in the least bit believable after they made the age changes and did the I love you confession. They just did it thinkin. Did they think that just because the people like the Simi and Abhi relationship they could take such liberities with the I love you confession and drop Abhi's age and hike up Simi's, but do nothing extra to make the whole relationship plausible?
I was an avid fan of Eastenders, but have not watched it in years. Many unbelievable things happened on that show but the writers worked hard to make the storylines at least believable. They could have had a 22 year old 30 year storyline just like Abhi and Simi, but they would have at least made the whole relationship possible. Plus I don't mind if Simi is frumpy but by putting so many odds against her, and not working on the storyline and expect me to accept it, I do feel very cheated as a viewer. I expect more, perhaps others in India expect less.
