In a heartbreaking development for the entertainment world, actor Mukul Dev, known for his roles in popular films like Son of Sardaar, R... Rajkumar, and Jai Ho, has passed away at the age of 54. The news of his untimely demise broke late Friday night, leaving fans and colleagues in deep shock.
According to sources, close friends of the actor rushed to his residence on Saturday upon hearing the tragic news. While the exact cause of his death is yet to be confirmed, further details are awaited from family members or representatives. Actress Deepshikha Nagpal, a longtime friend of Mukul Dev, confirmed the news on social media. In an emotional Instagram Story, she posted a throwback photo of the actor and wrote, “RIP,” expressing her grief and disbelief.
Mukul Dev, born in New Delhi, belonged to a Punjabi family with roots near Jalandhar. His father, Hari Dev, served as an assistant commissioner of police and introduced Mukul to diverse cultures, including Afghan traditions. Impressively, his father spoke Pashto and Persian, which greatly influenced Mukul's worldview.
Before becoming an actor, Mukul Dev trained as a commercial pilot at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi. However, his true calling came from the world of performance. At just a young age, he earned his first paycheck impersonating Michael Jackson in a dance show aired by Doordarshan. His passion for entertainment soon led him to television, where he debuted in the serial Mumkin in 1996. He also appeared in Ek Se Badh Kar Ek, a comedy countdown show, and hosted the first season of Fear Factor India.
Mukul’s film journey began with Dastak, where he portrayed ACP Rohit Malhotra, alongside former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. Over the years, he built a reputation for his powerful screen presence and versatile performances across Hindi, Punjabi, and Telugu films. His last appearance was in the film Anth The End.
Mukul Dev is survived by his brother, actor Rahul Dev. The film industry has started pouring in tributes, remembering him not just as a talented actor but also a kind and humble soul.
