Actor Mukul Dev’s sudden passing on May 23 left many in shock. His death sparked speculation on social media, with some suggesting he had been struggling with depression. Mukul's brother, actor Rahul Dev, has now responded to these rumours and shared more details about Mukul’s final days.
In an interview with the Times of India, Rahul explained that Mukul’s health had worsened due to long-term poor eating habits. "He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four-five days, he had stopped eating altogether," Rahul said. He added, "Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life, He would turn down several work offers. Only now, after completing all the rituals, is the reality sinking in and I know the pain will only deepen."
Mukul had moved to Delhi in 2019 to take care of their father, who was unwell and later passed away that same year. After their mother’s death in 2023, Mukul became more withdrawn. Rahul shared that Mukul isolated himself from friends and the industry, focusing more on writing. He also said Mukul missed his daughter, and not living with family likely made things harder for him.

He pointed out that many of those now commenting online were not actually in touch with Mukul. "The people who are speaking out now weren't even in touch with him. They say he was unfit, but he ran half-marathons. Yes, he had gained weight – when someone stops caring about themselves, it shows. Who really stayed in touch with him between 2019 and 2024? Did they visit him when he was in the hospital or attend his prayer meet?"

Rahul's words highlight how easily rumours can spread after someone passes away. He urged people to be more mindful and respectful when speaking about someone’s life, especially without knowing the full story.
