Speculation around the wedding of cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palaash Muchhal reached a fever pitch on Tuesday after reports claimed they were planning to marry on December 7. This comes just weeks after their much-publicised November 23 wedding was postponed due to an unexpected family emergency. Fans flooded social media with questions and theories, but Shravan Mandhana, Smriti’s brother, stepped forward to clarify the situation.
“I have no idea about these rumours. As of now it (the wedding) is still postponed,” he said, firmly dismissing claims of a new wedding date as baseless.
The couple’s original wedding, planned in Sangli, was called off suddenly on the morning of the ceremony when Smriti’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, suffered a serious medical issue and required immediate hospital care. Palaash, overwhelmed by the turn of events, was also hospitalised briefly. According to his mother, he received IV treatment and underwent several tests before being discharged.
While the health emergency was the primary reason for the postponement, online chatter quickly escalated into rumours of infidelity. Alleged private conversations and screenshots circulated, prompting questions about whether personal disputes contributed to the decision. Observers also noticed Smriti removing her engagement posts, proposal videos, and social-media tags connected to Palaash, further intensifying speculation.
Two choreographers involved in the wedding preparations, Nandika Dwivedi and Gulnaaz Khan, were also drawn into the controversy. Both strongly denied any involvement, calling the accusations false, harmful, and misleading.
Family members have repeatedly requested privacy and calm. Palaash’s mother emphasised that the wedding was delayed purely out of concern for Smriti’s father. She added that Palaash himself had suggested postponing even before the Mandhana family formally decided.
Despite the online storm, neither Smriti nor Palaash has publicly addressed the cheating allegations. Their only visible joint action so far has been a subtle update to their Instagram bios with an evil-eye emoji, possibly signalling their way of responding quietly to the speculation and negativity.
