Rhea Chakraborty under scrutiny for the HiBox mobile app scam

Rhea Chakraborty has recently been summoned for questioning in connection with a ?500 crore mobile app scam involving the HiBox app. This app, which was launched in February 2024, managed to trick over 30,000 individuals into investing their money with the promise of high returns. Rhea's involvement came to light as investigators scrutinized social media influencers linked to the fraudulent scheme.

The investigation began after Delhi Police received more than 500 complaints from people who claimed they had been misled into investing through the app, encouraged by promotional content from their favourite influencers. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) Hemant Tiwari revealed that "Through the application, the accused promised guaranteed returns of one to five per cent daily, amounting to 30 to 90 per cent in a month." This strategy lured many individuals who believed they would earn significant profits.

Initially, the HiBox app paid investors the promised returns until June, but it soon started withholding payments, citing various issues, including technical glitches and legal complications. As suspicions grew, Rhea Chakraborty's name emerged among those promoting the app on social media.

The police are investigating her role alongside other social media personalities who endorsed the app, including comedians and YouTubers. With her name in the spotlight, Rhea's involvement in this scam raises questions about the responsibilities of influencers in promoting financial products.

Authorities continue to probe the matter, and Rhea Chakraborty is currently facing scrutiny regarding her association with the HiBox app and the claims made during its promotion.
