Social media influencer and actor Apoorva Mukhija recently spoke about the struggles she faced during the India’s Got Latent controversy. In an emotional interview with Yuvaa, she opened up about the media trial she endured, the impact on her career, and the emotional toll it took on her.

Apoorva, who was part of the February episode of India’s Got Latent, found herself at the center of a media storm after some remarks made by her co-panelist, Ranveer Allahbadia, sparked outrage. The incident led to multiple FIRs being filed against her, Ranveer, Ashish Chanchlani, and Samay Raina. The controversy escalated, resulting in death threats and the loss of business opportunities for Apoorva, which she revealed during her chat with Yuvaa.

During this difficult period, Apoorva chose to remain silent despite her urge to speak out. Reflecting on this decision, she explained, “We haven’t seen a media trial at this scale in the creator industry. We’ve seen it in Bollywood. Shoutout to Rhea Chakraborty. I even spoke to her on a video call for an hour. My initial response was, ‘I want to talk about it,’ because Apoorva talks about everything. But everyone around me said, ‘You cannot open your mouth, it’ll start another media cycle for five more days. They’ll take just one line from what you said, run it on the news, and use it against you. You can’t do it.’ The only option I had was to stay silent.”

Apoorva also shared how the situation made her reflect on her work and career. “I lost a lot of business,” she said, recalling how her promising year vanished in a single day. “I remember when this year started, everyone in my work group said, ‘This is your year,’ and it all vanished in one day. All the brands wrote to me saying it’s not the right time to be associated with me. It was so bad.”

During this trying time, Apoorva found comfort in the support of her friends and a heartfelt conversation with Rhea Chakraborty, who had herself gone through a similar public trial. Rhea, who was accused in the Sushant Singh Rajput case in 2020, offered words of comfort to Apoorva. Rhea, recalling her own painful ordeal, had said on Deeptalk with Chetan Bhagat, “It had become a show, and my life was on display. I was like, stop it. I thought, yeh ho hi jaaye toh better hai — let me go to jail. So many people were after me that existence was not okay for me. I preferred everything get clarified, even if that meant going to jail.”

Despite the severe backlash, Apoorva’s resilience showed. However, the controversy did affect her professional life, especially the promotion of her film Nadaaniyan, a Netflix release starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor. Backed by Karan Johar, the film was released amid the controversy, and Apoorva chose not to promote it on social media or in public due to the ongoing negative attention.

As she continues to deal with the fallout from the incident, Apoorva's journey serves as a stark reminder of the intense pressure and consequences of being in the public eye, especially for those in the social media and entertainment industry.
