Kumar Vishwas Takes a Dig at Shatrughan and Sonakshi Sinha Following Mukesh Khanna's Criticism

Renowned poet Kumar Vishwas sparked controversy during a poetry gathering in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. His remarks indirectly targeted veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha. Without naming them directly, Vishwas commented, “Teach your children the Ramayana. Otherwise, it might happen that while your house is named 'Ramayana,' someone else may take away the 'Lakshmi' of your household.”

For context, Shatrughan Sinha’s residence is named "Ramayana," and Sonakshi Sinha recently married Zaheer Iqbal, who belongs to a Muslim family. Vishwas’ remarks were seen as a subtle reference to the interfaith marriage, igniting mixed reactions among the audience and netizens alike.

Elaborating on his point, Vishwas added, "Apne bachhon ko Sita Ji ki behnon aur Bhagwan Ram ke bhaiyon ke naam yaad karaiye. Ek sanket de raha hoon, jo samajh jayein unki taliyan uthtein. Apne bachhon ko Ramayan padhwayi aur Geeta sunwayi. Anya tha aisa na ho ki aapke ghar ka naam to 'Ramayan' ho aur aapke ghar ki Shree Lakshmi ko koi aur uthakar le jaye." This loosely translates to encouraging families to teach their children cultural values from epics like the Ramayana and Bhagavad Gita.

This isn’t the first time Sonakshi has been embroiled in such controversies. In 2019, actor Mukesh Khanna criticized her for failing to answer a Ramayana-related question on "Kaun Banega Crorepati." Sonakshi called his remarks distasteful, accusing him of targeting her upbringing for publicity. Her father, Shatrughan, defended her, emphasizing that not knowing one answer doesn’t make her any less of a good Hindu.

Mukesh Khanna later clarified his intent was to promote cultural education among youth, stating, “I meant no harm but expected backlash.” Meanwhile, Kumar Vishwas’ remarks have reignited debates on traditions and interfaith unions in India.
