Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a formal advisory urging media platforms to avoid live updates and real-time reporting of military operations. The directive emphasized the importance of operational security and warned against releasing sensitive or speculative information, citing past incidents such as the Kargil conflict, the 26/11 attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking as examples of the consequences of premature or irresponsible reporting.
As per clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, media coverage of anti-terror operations is to be limited to verified briefings provided by designated officials. The advisory appealed to news agencies, digital outlets, and social media users to exercise restraint and prioritize public safety over immediacy.
Actor Sonakshi Sinha joined the growing chorus of voices criticizing media conduct during crises. Taking to social media, she expressed frustration over what she described as performative journalism. In a strongly worded post, Sinha questioned the use of dramatic visuals and aggressive anchors in coverage of such serious developments.

Her comments arrive at a time when misinformation and speculative reports have flooded television and online platforms, particularly after air raid alerts and military activity were reported in parts of North India. Several social media accounts have circulated unverified content, contributing to public anxiety.
The ongoing security situation has seen increased vigilance from the government, with cross-border developments prompting high-level meetings and operational readiness across several regions. However, the lack of accurate, fact-checked updates from reliable sources has created confusion among citizens.
In her statement, Sinha advised the public to seek news from credible outlets and avoid content that amplifies fear. She urged the media to focus on responsibility and accuracy instead of sensational presentation.
The Ministry has also warned that violations of the advisory may invite action under applicable legal provisions. As the situation between the two nations remains sensitive, officials reiterated the need for caution in public communication.
