Businessman and polo enthusiast Sunjay Kapur who was ex husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, died in England on June 12. Initial reports suggest a heart attack during a polo match, possibly caused by a rare bee sting. Everyone is aware about Karisma’s relationship with Sunjay however do you know in 2002, Karisma Kapoor's life took an unexpected turn when her engagement to Abhishek Bachchan ended? This was a significant event, as it meant she would not become a member of the Bachchan family, a prospect that had seemed certain. The relationship between Karisma and Abhishek had been a serious one, spanning five years, and their engagement had been publicly announced. The abrupt cancellation of their wedding plans left many, including Karisma, in a state of shock.

In a candid interview, Karisma revealed the emotional toll of the breakup, describing it as a traumatic experience. The split was not just a personal loss but also a public one, as the media and fans speculated about the reasons behind the sudden change.

Karisma Kapoor had said, “It is time I spoke. I owe it to everyone. The beginning of this year was traumatic for me. I wouldn’t wish any girl to go through it. I was forced to deal with my hurt and pain on my own. I guess time is the best healer. Though I have been through a lot, I have come to terms with whatever has happened. All I will say is, whatever is destined is bound to happen. I was emotionally unprepared to confront my problems. Life deals you different cards. You have to just go with the shuffle."

She added, “I want to thank the media for being so understanding and supportive. Everyone left me alone. I don’t want to say anything more on this except that I couldn’t have come out my trauma if it wasn’t for my parents [Babita and Randhir Kapoor], sister [Kareena], my Dadiji [Krishna Raj Kapoor], my two Buas [Rima Jain and Ritu Nanda] and my close friends."

The reasons behind Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan's split remain private, but Amitabh Bachchan hinted at external factors. In 2005, on "Koffee With Karan," he mentioned "unfavorable circumstances," suggesting the breakup involved more than just personal feelings, adding complexity to their story. “It was a sensitive moment. Relationships are being formed, relationships are being destroyed. It can be distressing for any young man, and obviously distressing for the family. We don’t wish that to happen to anyone, but if the circumstances are not conducive for a union, then it’s better that you go different ways. That’s what happened."

In 2003, Karisma Kapoor married Sunjay Kapur, but their marriage soon failed, culminating in a public and acrimonious divorce in 2014. Initially, they sought a mutual divorce, but the case evolved into a bitter legal battle with serious accusations. Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan married Aishwarya Rai in 2007, and they had their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, in 2011.
