Kareena Kapoor Khan honored her late grandfather, Shashi Kapoor, on his 87th birthday with a heartfelt tribute on social media. She shared a fan-made video on her Instagram Stories, featuring a compilation of his iconic songs and memorable performances, celebrating his remarkable legacy. The video allowed fans to relive the magic of Shashi Kapoor's legendary career. Kareena simply added a red heart emoji to accompany the touching video.
Prithviraj Kapoor, the legendary actor, had three sons: Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, and Shashi Kapoor. Shashi Kapoor, the youngest of the three brothers, was Kareena Kapoor's grandfather. He was the brother of Kareena's father, Raj Kapoor.

Randhir Kapoor, Kareena's father, was Shashi Kapoor's nephew. This is because Raj Kapoor, Randhir's father, was Shashi Kapoor's elder brother. Shashi Kapoor's grandson, Zahan Kapoor (son of Kunal Kapoor), paid a heartfelt tribute to his grandfather, expressing his love and respect for the iconic actor.
Zahan Kapoor took to Instagram to share two rare photographs of his grandfather, the legendary Shashi Kapoor.
The first image shows Shashi Kapoor seated in a cozy, book-filled room, likely his home. Dressed in a white kurta pajama, he holds a book and a pipe, lost in thought. Behind him hangs a large portrait of a warrior, adding to the contemplative atmosphere.
The second picture captures Shashi Kapoor standing in front of Prithvi Theatre, surrounded by posters of various plays. He is wearing a simple white kurta-pajama, exuding effortless charm and a deep passion for the arts. Zahan captioned the photos with "Salagirah dadaji," which translates to "Happy Birthday, Grandfather."
Shashi Kapoor, who received four National Film Awards during his illustrious career, was widely recognized for his work in both Bollywood and international cinema, particularly in films produced by Merchant Ivory.
Shashi Kapoor, the third and youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor, embarked on his acting journey as a child in 1948, appearing in his brother Raj Kapoor's directorial debut, "Aag." His first adult role came in 1961 in Yash Chopra's political drama "Dharmputra." He rose to prominence with two major hits, "Waqt" and "Jab Jab Phool Khile," which solidified his place in the film industry. Over the years, he featured in a wide variety of films, including "Chor Machaye Shor," "Roti Kapda Aur Makaan," "Deewaar," "Chori Mera Kaam," "Kabhi Kabhie," "Fakira," "Trishul," "Suhaag," "Kranti," "Namak Halaal," "Junoon," "Kalyug," and "Vijeta."
Shashi Kapoor's health began to decline in 2017 when he was hospitalized, reportedly due to a chest infection. Sadly, he passed away on December 4, 2017 due to liver cirrhosis. His contributions to Indian cinema remain deeply cherished, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and iconic characters that continue to inspire generations of film enthusiasts.
