The film 83, starring Ranveer Singh, is back in the headlines due to its OTT release. The sports drama revolves around the 1983 world cup and the journey of Kapil Dev leading his team as a captain. Ranveer Singh did a commendable job in portraying Kapil Dev on the big screen.

Kapil Dev lately shared his reaction on the film in an interview with Netflix host Gaurav Kapoor. He admitted that the film did not have an emotional influence on him the first time he saw it, but that it did so the second time he saw it.

While sharing his views, he said,

“When I watched it for the first time, I was like okay this is a film and it did not impact me much. But when I watched it for the second time, I am anyway a very emotional person, and I just could not stop crying. I thought what a film it was, that's how we played.”

Kapil Dev also hailed the performance of Ranveer Singh and the whole cast of the movie along with Kabir Khan, for his outstanding direction. Kapil also added that 98 percent of the movie was based on true happenings. Only the people who played it and the scenes were changed, but the emotions and the story was totally the same.

83 was released in theatres in December 2021. However, as soon as the film released, India started to witness a surge in the Covid 19 cases and theatres started to shut down in many parts of the country, leading to a major setback for the film.

Apart from Ranveer Singh the movie also featured Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Boman Irani and others in key roles.
