Dharmendra calls his kiss with Shabana Azmi ‘historic’, leaves Ranveer Singh speechless

Veteran actor Dharmendra has once again grabbed headlines, but this time for his cheeky comment on his now-famous kissing scene with Shabana Azmi in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. While the 2023 romantic drama was led by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, it was Dharmendra and Shabana’s surprise kiss that took social media by storm and sparked endless conversations among fans.

In a recent interview with ANI, Dharmendra opened up about the much-discussed moment, saying that he didn’t expect such a huge response. He shared a light-hearted conversation he had with co-star Ranveer Singh after the film’s release. Laughing, he said, “I told Ranveer that you had so many kissing scenes in the film, but my one kiss left everyone stunned.” His playful tone clearly showed how amused he was by the reactions.

Dharmendra further called the moment “aesthetic” and said that love has no age. He mentioned that the scene was not added just for effect but blended beautifully with the emotions of the story. The actor also shared that he felt his character had a tragic depth and compared him to Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas, saying, “Like Devdas, my character wandered in alcohol, forgetting everything. It was a good story, and emotional too.” Earlier, in another interview with News18, Dharmendra had said that the kiss scene became a highlight because of its unexpected timing. The suddenness of it took viewers by surprise, which is probably why it made such a strong impression.

Directed by Karan Johar, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani explored the love story between two individuals from very different families and cultures. Apart from the lead pair, the film featured an impressive cast including Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, Churni Ganguly, Anjali Anand, and Tota Roy Chowdhury. Even though the movie had all the traditional elements of a Bollywood family entertainer—romance, drama, music, and humour—Dharmendra’s single kiss became one of its most memorable moments.
