Actor Sushant Divgikr has managed to create an impact not just in the conventional forms of acting but in several facets in abundance. Right from being a trailblazer for the LGBTQIA+ community to being Rani KoHEnur, they continue to explore multiple ways of entertaining and inspiring.
They are one of the important voices in Audible's Marvel's Wastelanders: Star Lord, where they voice the character of Cora. In an exclusive conversation with us, Divgikr sat down with us and talked about expressing with your voice, how it is different from playing a character on-screen to being a voice and other things.
Q. What is the one element you made sure to sustain and insert into Korra through your voice?
Nothing. I had to forget everything about myself. When I was doing the recording, I'm honestly telling you I had to forget. You know, when they say unlearn and relearn and these things. I really have to give credit to Mantra, you know, for being such a good coach to me and to like like everyone, a mentor and a guardian. If I was the Peter Quill in the Guardians of the Galaxy, then Mantra was my guardian, Guardian of Cora. And I think that he literally told me to forget everything. And then, just in a matter of a couple of days, it sort of opened me up to such a beautiful experience that I could kind of voice for Cora. So really I didn't take anything that was mine into Cora. Cora is by herself.
Q. How difficult and different is it for an actor to voice the character as opposed to being on screen?
I think it is two completely different experiences as I would say one, because you know physically you are experiencing these emotions. You also have a stimulus to respond to.
And stimulus not just in terms of the the environment but also the your co-stars, your co-stars are also stimulus. So I think that in that manner I would still think that doing a doing something which is audio-visual is slightly easier than doing an only audio.
Q. If an on screen Hindi adaptation is ever made, would you like to continue to play Cora or have a preference for some other character?
I would like to play Korra, but I don't know how that will turnout. Just imagine me like how will I play a Rigelian recorder? I would love to know because the fact that I didn't even think in my life. I would play a a Rigelian recorder and be a Marvel character. I would love to be surprised as to how I would play the you know, on screen adaptation, but I would jump at it.
Apart from that, I'm not gonna say Black Widow because that is; she is one of my favorites. But I'm not gonna say Black Widow. I would like to play Storm. You know, Storm from the X-Men series. Yeah, something which is like very intriguing. And you know, I would like to have her story being told more and I would like to play her.
But from this cast, I would, I would like to play the the androgynous, genderfluid, transgender version of Doctor Doom. Yeah, I think that that's just my favorite character of this entire series, which is very beautifully portrayed by the perfect person to portray this, which is Ashish Ji. Ashish Vidyarthi has done a great job.
