Latest update in Sushant Singh Rajput’s case

Following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched an investigation amid suspicions of foul play. However, the CBI has recently concluded the case, exonerating Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty of any wrongdoing. The agency has ruled out the possibility of foul play in Rajput's death.

The CBI, investigating the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, has requested an extension for the hearing of the closure report, scheduled for Tuesday night.  Simultaneously, the agency has filed an application to transfer the case from the Bandra court, where it was originally registered, to a court in Esplanade, South Mumbai.

This development comes amidst Rhea Chakraborty's ongoing complaint against Rajput's sisters and a Delhi-based doctor, Tarun Kumar, alleging a conspiracy to obtain and administer a fake prescription containing psychotropic substances (clonazepam and chlordiazepoxide, listed under Items 36 and 38 of the NDPS Act).

The CBI has officially closed the case. During Tuesday's hearing, both the CBI's Investigating Officer and the Public Prosecutor informed the court of their intention to seek a transfer of the case to a designated CBI court.

We are going to apply before the Chief Judicial Magistrate for transfer of this matter to the designated Court for CBI

The hearing has been adjourned until July 3.

In 2020, Rhea Chakraborty filed an FIR against Sushant Singh Rajput's sisters, Priyanka and Meetu Singh, and Dr. Tarun Kumar, accusing them of conspiring to obtain and administer a fake prescription containing psychotropic substances (clonazepam and chlordiazepoxide) to the late actor.  Chakraborty alleged that the trio conspired to obtain a false prescription on a government hospital letterhead to administer banned medicines to Rajput, potentially contributing to his suicide.

While the Bombay High Court dismissed the case against Meetu Singh in 2021, it allowed the investigation to continue against Priyanka Singh.

After nearly five years, the CBI recently filed a closure report stating that no evidence was found to support the allegations.
