Sasural Simar Ka fame Krissann Barretto who had a close friendship with the late Sushant Singh Rajput, has opened up about the emotional and professional toll she faced for speaking publicly after his passing. In a candid appearance on Shardul Pandit’s podcast Uncensored with Shardul, the 33-year-old revealed that she not only faced backlash but was also denied work by some production houses after she chose to speak about Sushant.
Krissann shared that her grief was met with harsh judgment. “In India, if you are an actor, you can’t grieve," she said.
If your friend passes away, people assume you’re posting for attention. Just because you’re in front of a camera, they think you’re performing. There’s no room for genuine emotion

Krissann's decision to speak out wasn't easy, especially in a high-profile case like Sushant's, which stirred national controversy and conspiracy theories. "There's a reason nobody was talking about it," she said. "It comes with risks. I risked my career, my life… even my parents were furious with me for speaking out."
Krissann firmly rejected the criticism that she was using Sushant's name for fame. "No one is so foolish as to risk their life for attention. People don't realize how many doors get closed on you when you take a stand like this. It's happened to me. I was denied work."
The cost of speaking out was high, and the returns were non-existent, she added. "I lost a lot and gained nothing. I did it for my friend, not for fame. I don't care what I lose. Even my friends told me to stop. They'd call and say, 'Mat baat karo.' But I couldn't stay silent."
Krissann's emotional account comes as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently filed a closure report in Sushant Singh Rajput's case—nearly four years after his death—ruling out any foul play and clearing actress Rhea Chakraborty of all charges, including abetment to suicide.
Despite facing significant backlash and personal consequences, Krissann maintains she has no regrets.
