Expected 'Bhediya' to perform better at the box office, says Varun Dhawan

Even though both films might not have been big money spinners but given the current state of box office and movie-watching habits, they have done reasonably well indeed.

Varun Dhawan in Bhediya

Actor Varun Dhawan has always been considered to be one of the most commercially viable stars in Bollywood for the longest time. There was a period where the actor delivered consecutive box office successes for almost four years back-to-back.

This year too, has been rather good for the actor as he acted in two big films, namely Jug Jugg Jeeyo and Bhediya. Even though both films might not have been big money spinners but given the current state of box office and movie-watching habits, they have done reasonably well indeed.

However, given the knack for numbers and expectations he has, Dhawan recently opened up on the on-going box office collection performance of Bhediya. In a recent interview with Midday, Dhawan mentioned that when the lockdown happened, he hit a roadblock which made him feel burnt out. He also mentioned that he wants to films that are creatively satisfying and not because of the dates. Amazingly, while he had Jugjugg Jeeyo and Bhediya already he is also set to be seen in Bawaal with Janhvi Kapoor next year.

He added that as an actor, he is the proudest of these three films. He did admit that he expected the horror comedy Bhediya to perform better than it did at the box office. He said that it has been such a strange year with films, trying to get people back to theatres, he had expected Bhediya would do numbers than it did. “However, I am grateful that people have seen the film in cinemas, and its [collection] is higher than that of many. It tells you that you should try and do better.”

Speaking of Bawaal, the film helmed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Bawaal is touted to be a timeless love story that will require Varun and Janhvi Kapoor's characters to travel across multiple countries. The film is all set to hit the screens on April 7, 2023.

do a below average film & expect the collections to flood-in. BW's high days are over. TBH... why would anyone waste their time these days to go to theater unless something really comes along which needs to be enjoyed only in a theater. This movie certainly isn't one, at best can watched on a boring Friday night with popcorn at home.

We have already seen 'chamkata lal pichwada' in CN years ago. If you would have been bitten somewhere else, quality of movie would improve.

The fact that Indians are coming up with this type of movie shows how pathetic their mindset is. Why would any sane person spend his/her hard earned money to watch crap like this?
