The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has escalated its criticism of Diljit Dosanjh, sending a new letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The letter requests the withdrawal of shooting permissions for Border 2, which features Dosanjh in a prominent role. Filming for the movie is currently taking place at the National Defence Academy in Pune.
“We write to you with deep concern regarding the shooting permission reportedly granted to the production team of the film ‘Border 2’ at the National Defence Academy (NDA) premises in Pune," the FWICE letter to the ministers said.
The film organization announced its decision to boycott Diljit Dosanjh due to his collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3.
“It is important to bring to your notice that the said film (Border 2) features actor Diljit Dosanjh, who has been officially boycotted by FWICE owing to his involvement with individuals and content that have deeply disrespected Indian sentiments, especially by associating with Pakistani artists known for their anti-lndia views, and participating in projects filmed in sensitive border locations like Pahalgam immediately following terror incidents targeting our armed forces," the letter added.
“The NDA, being a national symbol of military training and sacrifice, must not be used as a backdrop for a film involving an actor who is currently under public and professional boycott due to acts that undermine the spirit of national unity and hurt the sentiments of our defence community," it continued.
FWICE has requested Union Ministers to revoke the shooting permission for Border 2. “ensure that the integrity of sensitive defence installations is not compromised or associated with individuals facing legitimate public outrage."
FWICE had previously voiced its discontent to the Border 2 production team, including Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, and director Anurag Singh. In a letter, FWICE expressed its "deep disappointment" regarding Diljit Dosanjh's involvement in the film.
Diljit Dosanjh recently addressed the controversy, telling the BBC Asian Network that the project was completed before current political tensions arose.
“Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi," he said, adding that the makers are aware they will incur losses. “Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them."
Sardaar Ji 3 stars Hania Aamir as a ghost hunter, alongside Diljit Dosanjh, who is assigned to exorcise a spirit from a UK mansion. The film blends action and comedy, with romantic elements as Hania and Neeru Bajwa compete for Diljit's affection.
Scheduled for a global release on June 27, Sardaar Ji 3 faced controversy regarding its casting. The Pahalgam terror attack heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to a ban on Pakistani artists in India.
