Diljit Dosanjh has been making headlines recently, primarily due to his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3, which stars Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Amidst the current tensions between India and Pakistan, Diljit Dosanjh is facing criticism for casting a Pakistani actress. Yesterday, singer Guru Randhawa criticised Diljit Dosanjh's team for allegedly using controversies rather than focusing on talent.
Guru Randhawa's X (formerly Twitter) account has been deactivated a day after he posted a cryptic message, which was interpreted as a veiled criticism of Diljit Dosanjh. The Punjabi singer's official X handle, previously known as ‘Guru Official,’ is no longer accessible, displaying the message, "This account doesn’t exist."
Hours after Guru Randhawa shared a cryptic post, widely perceived as a subtle jab at Diljit Dosanjh, his X account was deactivated. Although no names were mentioned in Guru's post, it was linked by online users to the criticism Diljit has faced for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his film, Sardaar Ji 3.
Guru took to X and wrote, "When the PR team is more talented than the Talent itself, controversies become part of Daily routine. The day is near when our people will open their eyes and know the truth. LOL. 1st of every month dropping bombs 💣. God Bless the Fake PR and the artists," he wrote. Netizens believed Guru was taking an indirect dig at Diljit Dosanjh.
In the wake of the controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh, the singer-actor has been accused of offending national sentiments, particularly following the terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this year. Organizations such as FWICE and AICWA have called for a ban on Diljit and his future projects in India.
Diljit Dosanjh recently addressed the controversy, telling the BBC Asian Network that the project was completed before current political tensions arose.
“Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi," he said, adding that the makers are aware they will incur losses. “Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them."
Sardaar Ji 3 stars Hania Aamir as a ghost hunter, alongside Diljit Dosanjh, who is assigned to exorcise a spirit from a UK mansion. The film blends action and comedy, with romantic elements as Hania and Neeru Bajwa compete for Diljit's affection.
Scheduled for a global release on June 27, Sardaar Ji 3 faced controversy regarding its casting. The Pahalgam terror attack heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to a ban on Pakistani artists in India.
