Arjun Kapoor, known for his close bond with father and veteran producer Boney Kapoor, recently made a rare mention of his late stepmother, legendary actress Sridevi, during an interview with Galatta India. While discussing Satish Kaushik's 1993 film Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Arjun shared a glimpse of his childhood memories.
Reflecting on the film, which starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, Arjun revealed, “My entire life with my father was being on Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja set. Even by today’s standards, it is one of the biggest films we ever made. The film cost ₹10 crore in 1992. It had Anil Kapoor, Sridevi ma’am, and Jaggu dada, Jackie Shroff. Anupam Kher was the villain. And there was a pigeon with Anil chachu (uncle) in the film, whose name was Django, and it was my favourite character at the time.”
Sridevi, who was dating Boney Kapoor during the production of the film, later married him in 1996 after his divorce from Arjun's mother, Mona Kapoor. Arjun, then 10, and his younger sister, Anshula, were deeply impacted by the family dynamics. Boney and Sridevi went on to have two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, both of whom are now actors.
Arjun stood by his father during Sridevi's tragic death in 2018, following an accidental drowning. He later expressed feeling protective over his stepsisters, Janhvi and Khushi, and acknowledged how the tragedy brought them closer. This mirrored his own loss, having lost his mother Mona to cancer in 2012, just days before his Bollywood debut in Ishaqzaade. Coincidentally, Sridevi passed away months before Janhvi's debut film Dhadak.
On the professional front, Arjun Kapoor is set to return to the big screen with Mere Husband Ki Biwi, directed by Mudassar Aziz. Co-starring Bhumi Pednekar and Rakul Preet Singh, the romantic comedy is slated for a theatrical release on February 21.
This candid reflection by Arjun Kapoor sheds light on his personal journey and the intricate relationships within his family, offering fans a rare glimpse into his life beyond the silver screen.
