The controversy surrounding India's Got Latent has intensified as the Supreme Court has summoned Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, and others for their inappropriate remarks on the show. Anupam Mittal, a judge on Shark Tank India Season 4, has criticized video-sharing platform YouTube and other social media sites for their role in promoting inappropriate content. He emphasized that this issue extends beyond just a few individuals and reflects a larger social media trend.
In a post on his LinkedIn account, Anupam Mittal remarked, "Summon YouTube to the High Court too, not just Ranveer and Apoorva." He condemned the vulgar comments made by the YouTubers on India's Got Latent, stating that such behavior is "totally unacceptable in any civilized society." However, he also pointed out the show's essence, saying, "India's Got Latent wasn’t some Satyamev Jayate ka lost episode > it was always about insults, vulgarity, irreverence & shock. Like it or hate it, that was the show."
Highlighting the broader implications of the controversy, the Shark Tank India 4 judge noted that the issue is not merely about the individuals involved but also pertains to social media platforms that thrive on outrage. He stated, "When one extreme becomes the norm, what does the algorithm do? Promotes the next level of obscenity." In his post, he called out these platforms and YouTube for their questionable practices.
YouTube, Instagram, digital media, these platforms dangle virality like prasad, watch creators chase, and then step back when the fire starts. Ranveer and Apoorva messed up, real bad, and apologized. Shouldn't we move our attention to the bigger issue?

He raised concerns on social media regarding their guidelines and questioned why platforms that broadcast such content aren't held responsible. Sharing his own experience with YouTube, he mentioned that even after setting parental controls for his 7-year-old, he was "shocked at the age-inappropriate content that YT keeps serving up."
Anupam also referred to Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, and Samay Raina as 'victims' and stated, "The real culprits are ‘Big-tech’ who take cover under digital intermediary laws that allow them to flout all responsibility & accountability. Imagine a newspaper or a tv channel publishing the type of content that these platforms carry with total impunity. It would lead to a mutiny."
Since Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment on India's Got Latent, multiple FIRs have been filed against him in Assam, Mumbai, and Jaipur. Additionally, the Supreme Court has summoned him regarding the matter. In light of the controversy, Samay Raina has decided to remove all episodes of India's Got Latent from YouTube.
