Alia Bhatt was recently in Kolkata to promote Meri Jaan, the latest Gangubai Kathiawadi track. The movie, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is inspired by a chapter from S Hussain Zaidi's book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, and Shantanu Maheshwari also star in the film.
Taking a dig at the film, Kangana Ranaut had earlier said on her Instagram stories,
“This Friday 200cr will be burnt to ashes at the box office for a papa ki pari because papa wants to prove that romcom bimbo can act biggest drawback of the film is wrong casting...yeh nahi sudhrenge, no wonder screens are going to South and Hollywood films. Bollywood is destined for doom jab tak movie mafia has power.”
Alia, in response to Kangana's statement, told news agency PTI,
"Lord Krishna had said in the Gita that inaction is an action. That's all I want to say."
Kangana Ranaut recently criticised a viral video of a little girl mimicking Alia's character from Gangubai Kathiawadi on Instagram. She wrote in her post, "Should this child emulate a sex worker who carries a beedi in her mouth and speaks in filthy and obscene tones? Is it acceptable to sexualize her at this age, based on her body language? Hundreds of additional children are being used in the same way."
Gangubai Kathiawadi portrays the story of a lady who is trafficked into prostitution and rises to prominence in Kamathipura's red-light district. The film is all set to hit the theatres on 25th February and fans can't stop fawning at the songs. Alia's upcoming projects include Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Darlings, RRR, and Brahmastra, in addition to Gangubai Kathiawadi.
