Shaurya looked at her and smiled: Shhh...Now let me speak. N don't interrupt me.

Mehak nodded her head in agreement.

Shaurya: Mehak you mean the world to me..I know I have done several mistakes in the past but you always showed a kind attitude towards me. Its because of this attitude of yours that I am a changed man now. I don't know when and how this happened but I was surely falling for you. I couldn't see you getting married to Ajay. I could never come out of my past but you connected me to my present. Showed me what a beautiful future I could have. You have transformed me into someone that I thought I would never be. Ms. Mehak Sharma, I love you. Would you do the honors of marrying this guy and becoming Mrs. Mehak Shaurya Khanna?

Mehak looked at him with tears in her eyes. Shaurya had already proposed to her then why this again.

Before Mehak could say anything, Shaurya spoke : Did I miss any line? Damn I should have written the lines and learnt them...Let me think...Oh yes... I cannot lose you Mehak. You have made me a better person...blah blah blah...Right? Its complete now... This is what I had said to you when I had proposed to you right after the wedding..Hai na Mehak...

Shaurya was smirking looking at Mehak. Mehak was shocked with the change in his expressions.

Part 2:

Flashback :

Mehak was still getting married to Ajay. After the sangeet ceremony, Ajay's father had a heart attack and he was hospitalized. His condition was too serious and the doctors had advised him complete bed rest. After 2 months when he was all hale and hearty, there was no muhurat for the wedding and the wedding was postponed by another 4 months. In these 4 months, Shaurya had tried all tricks of exposing Ajay and his family but all his tricks were in vain. He tried to manipulate Mehak against Ajay but Mehak was adamant on getting married to him.

Left with no choice and nothing to do, Shaurya and Rajeev gave her a job offer to work in their newly launched restaurant as an Assistant Chef. Shaurya assured Kaanta chachi that this would be a great career move for her. Mehak too wanted some time to divert herself from this wedding and this job was the perfect opportunity for her. Besides, she would finally get to do what she loves to do and that was cooking.

She accepted the offer and started working in Shaurya's restaurant. In those 3 months that she worked for him, a lot had changed. Shaurya would find ways to talk to her and help her out when she couldn't understand few Italian and Thai dishes. When Mehak would work late at his restaurant, Shaurya would personally drop her at home. At times, instead of going directly to her place, they would stop by at a local dhaba and talk for hours and then head home.

They would steal glances at each other and find reasons to talk to each other. Shaurya was changing and people working under him had noticed this change too. But not in their wildest dreams had they thought that their boss "Mr. Shaurya Khanna" was changing because of a middle class gal "Ms. Mehak Sharma". They would still have arguments over food where Shaurya preferred precision and Mehak preferred taste. For Mehak, cooking wasn't a mathematical equation where she would measure and add the ingredients. It was a passion and a gift that she had inherited from her mother. On the other hand, Shaurya believed that a right dish should have all the ingredients in the perfect quantity.

Shaurya's restaurant was awarded a five star rating by the famous food critic Mr. Mehrotra. It was a proud moment for him and Rajeev. Finally, all the hard work had paid off and they wanted to thank their entire staff for this achievement. So they threw a lavish party to commemorate their success for the entire staff. Shaurya had decided to propose Mehak at this party. It was now or never for him. Too much time was wasted and God had given him the perfect opportunity since Ajay and Mehak's marriage had been postponed.

Of course, Mehak was in love with Shaurya too but she always thought that Shaurya was only helping her out of concern for her. Besides, she thought that a good -looking guy like him would never fall in love with a plain Jane like her.

She still remembered his exact words when he had proposed her. How beautiful they were.

He bent down on his knees and proposed her with a ring. Mehak had tears in her eyes. She didn't know what to say. She was overwhelmed with his gesture.

Mehak : Yes Shaurya, I love you too.

She hugged him tight and expressed her feelings. Shaurya had a big smile on his face. He picked her up, twirled her around and kissed her.

Shaurya : Thank you Mehak. I love you. I cannot tell you how happy I am...Thank you Mehak for making me a part of your life. I promise you that from now on you will only have happiness in your life. N don't worry about Ajay. I will talk to Kaanta chachi and your other family members. I am sure they will accept us.

Mehak looked at him in awe and hugged him. She was truly blessed to have someone like him in her life. Mata Rani had listened to her prayers. He was indeed her knight in shining armor.

Everything was going perfect for a few days. Shaurya had insisted to keep their affair a secret for some time. Besides, Mehak also needed time to talk to her family members about Shaurya. Although her family members shared a good relation with Shaurya now but still Kaanta chachi had her thoughts regarding him. She would always warn Mehak to keep him at an arm distance.

It was Mehak's birthday today and she wanted to spend the entire day with him. She was sure that Shaurya would have planned something beautiful for her. After his proposal, Shaurya would shower her with praises and gifts. She would blush thinking about him all the time. She had never thought in her wildest dreams that she would fall in love with her "Khadoos Kumar".

Mehak was waiting for his call at 12 in the midnight.

Mehak : Why aren't you calling Shaurya? Kahi woh bhool toh nahi gaya...Hey Maata Rani I hope that's not true...Hope he remembers...Did he fall asleep? Please Please call karo Shaurya...

Just then, there was a knock at the door. She opened the door and her entire family was waiting to wish her on her special day.

They all shouted : Happy Birthday ladooo...

She hugged everyone and thanked them.

Mehak happily: Thank you so much...

Mansi chachi: Beta, u sleep now...Kal subah hotel bhi toh jaana hai...So jaa...Happy birthday once again.

Mehak : Thank you chachi...Thank you once again...Good night..

They all wished her good night and went back to their rooms.

Mehak closed the door and checked her phone.

Mehak : I m sure Shaurya ka miss call hoga...

She was disappointed to see that there was no miss call from him..not even a ping. She waited till 1.30 for his call and finally slept due to tiredness.

The next morning when she woke up to check her phone again, there was still no miss call from him. She was angry and upset.

Mehak : Wht is wrong with this guy? Itne gante ho gaye and not a single call or message...Idiot, gadha, bewakoof, akdu,ahhh...

Mehak got ready to go to hotel. She was in a very foul mood today. It was her birthday and nothing was going right since morning. Firstly, the dress she was to wear for today burnt while ironing and when she tried wearing one of Nehal's dresses, the zipper broke while trying to pull it up. She was frustrated with all this.

Nehal: Its ok di...Hota hai...Chill karo...why don't you wear something else.

Mehak spoke angrily: kya pehnu...I wanted to wear that dress but stupid dress jal gayi...I hate all dis..I don't have anything to wear now...I won't b going to work today...Bas decided.

Nehal looked at her and tried to calm her down: Di just relax. Its your birthday today. U r supposed to be happy not angry..So smile! Why don't you wear a saree? You look pretty in a saree..Trust me!! It will be a good change from your regular salwar kameezwalle outfits.

Mehak looked at her and gave it a thought, yes she was right. She thanked Nehal and went to her room to select a saree.

She wore a beautiful light blue saree with simple border work over it. She kept her hair simple and accessorized it with a simple necklace. She had one look at herself in the mirror and complimented herself.

Mehak : Waah Mehak..u r looking good...May b not very gorgeous but simply beautiful...Bas Maata Rani ab kuch galat na ho...I hope the rest of the day goes all fine.

She had her breakfast and left for the hotel. She kept on checking her phone on the way. She was really worried now. Everyday Shaurya would call her in the morning and they would talk over the phone coz they wouldn't get time to talk in the hotel with Shaurya being busy in meetings and Mehak being busy in the kitchen. But today this was strange. It was her birthday and he hadn't called even once. She called him up but there was no answer.

Mehak thought: Us everything alright? Why isn't he answering? Raat se koi call nahi...I hope he is ok.

She got down from the auto and was trying to call him continuously. She was praying for him to be safe. Just then she saw Shaurya's car enter the hotel premises. She was relieved to see him. A big smile came on her face and she went walking towards him to talk. Shaurya was on a call. He looked at her, smiled and went towards his cabin. Mehak was surprised with his behavior. Was he avoiding her? Nope that can't be and why would he?

She made her way towards the kitchen area thinking about why Shaurya didn't wish her. She had just entered the kitchen when she heard everyone hooting and screaming.

Others: Happy birthday Mehak!!!!!!!!!!!!

She looked at them and smiled. She was truly blessed to have such wonderful people around her. In a very short span of working at the "Grand Extension", she had made great friends at the hotel especially her co-chefs Kunal and Vinay.

Mehak : Thank you guys...Thank you very much!!!

They all the cut the cake for her and proceeded to continue their work. Shaurya wasn't a part of the celebrations. She was smiling but deep down she was troubled with Shaurya's changed behavior. It was a very busy day for the entire hotel staff today. Most of the prominent politicians of Delhi had come to their hotel for a conference and they were all busy making the arrangements. Mehak had no time to think about Shaurya at all.

The entire day passed and Mehak was finally done with her work. She had given up the hope of Shaurya wishing her on her birthday.

Mehak thought: It's ok. He might be really busy. Mujhe toh sirf kitchen dekhna tha but he had to attend the guests too. I guess he might have forgotten.

She packed her bag and started looking for an auto to go back home.

Mehak : Bhaiyya chandni chowk chaliye.

She sat in the auto and had one last look at the hotel hoping to see Shaurya once before leaving.

Mehak : yeh mera abhi tak ka sabse worst birthday hai. Kuch thik nahi hua subah se.

She closed her eyes and tried to convince herself that it was alright. Sometimes things don't go as we wish them to. She had half way reached her house when she got a call from her Supervisor Jia.

Mehak looked at her phone and thought: Why is she calling me now?

Mehak answered her call and spoke: Hi Mam, kya baat hai?

Mehak : I m sorry to disturb you. I know your shift is over but u need to attend a function at Sainik Farms. I ll ping you the exact address.

Mehak : But Mam its very late now and why all of a sudden?

Jia: I know Mehak I m really sorry but one of the guests from the political family who had come at the hotel today really liked the dish that you had made. They insisted to meet you now. Shaurya Sir tried to convince them but they were adamant. Don't worry, we have few of our staff members there plus Rajeev Sir is there too. Please Mehak. I could have arranged the car for you but it would get too late. Could you please manage to hire a cab here and come?

Mehak had no option but to say yes. Jia had pinged herthe address. She asked the auto driver to take it to the said address.

She reached the venue and had a look at it. It was an open ground with a beautiful canopy at the centre. She paid the driver and headed towards the canopy. The canopy was beautifully lit. It had a table loaded with the all the delicacies and a bottle of wine. She looked at them and was surprised to see that they were all her favorites.

She was about to call Jia to enquire whether she had reached the wrong address when suddenly the lights went off. In a few seconds, when the lights came back, she saw Shaurya bend on his knees in front of her.

Shaurya was looking dapper in a black suit and was looking charming as usual. She couldn't take her eyes off him. It was so unexpected.

Mehak : Shaurya yeh kya hai????

Shaurya : I really hate all dis Mehak...all these sugary talks..Not my cup of tea. For the last two months, I have been tired of doing the lovesick puppy act..Good riddance. I won't have to act anymore.

Mehak was shocked to hear all dat.

Mehak looked at him and said: Shaurya wht is all dis?

Shaurya smirked and said: Come one Mehak..i thought you were intelligent but I was wrong. U should have guessed it by now...Dis u really think that I would fall in love with you? And after what you had done to me? No way Mehak...U slapped me in front of the media..U slapped Shaurya Khanna. Mujhe tumse maafi maangni padi. Bloody middle class behenji!!!

Mehak was shocked. How could she not understand all this? All this while she thought that Shaurya loved her too.

Shaurya smirked: Kya hua Mehak...Kuch kahogi nahi. Won't you cry? Ya phir chilla hi do. Keh do that why did I do this? I am so heartless. Aaj koi shraap nahi dogi. I had read somewhere that revenge is sweet but didn't know it would be so sweeter. All these arrangements are not to celebrate your birthday but to celebrate my victory for defeating you. In fact, this is my birthday gift to u. I m sure I made your day memorable Ms. Mehak Sharma.

Mehak was upset but she didn't want to show it to Shaurya. She wouldn't give him that satisfaction.

She wiped her tears and looked at him: Thank you Shaurya.

Shaurya was surprised and asked: For?

Mehak: For giving my best birthday gift. Bye.

She removed his ring and kept it on the table.

Mehak left form there. Shaurya looked at her leaving. He expected her to shout at him, scream at him but she didn't react that way.

Shaurya: What the hell? Koi accusation nahi...Go to hell Ms Sharma...I got what I wanted. I won't have to act anymore.

Note : So here it is. Shaurya's betrayal. I guess I was expecting something like dis from the CVs in the initial episodes after Shaurya apologized to Mehak on the last day of the ISC shoot. It looked all so staged but then him donning the majnu avatar made us all rake our brains. Nevertheless, I still feel its all his act...Anyways Happy New Year guys!!!
