Why? Are indian serials so bad? :D I totally love watching them and many other turkish people too. Especially Iss Pyaar Kya Naam Doon and Beintehaa were superb :)

Strictly my opinion:

The thing with Indian shows is that they start off very well. The first say 100 episodes are very very good but then they always end up turning into a family drama with little or no sense. When watching Indian shows (and now even bollywood movies) I would suggest you take the "This is a work of fiction & any resemblance to any person living or dead is purely coincidental" warning very very seriously😆 Indians are really not much like they are shown in our movies & shows which tend to exaggerate things a bit too much for the sake of drama Take everything you see in those shows with a pinch of salt

Thanks for your answers. Now I understand, what you mean. Some Indian serials really are very long. Bidaai, which is currently aired in turkish television has around 700 episodes for example. Thats really quite long. Iss Pyaar and Beintehaa were shorter ones (around 200-400).

But I think the most important reason, why Indian serials are so popular in Turkey, is that they show an other culture to you. I mean in Turkey women dont wear Saris or Bindis and all that beautiful jewellery. Its somehow exotic for us, when we are watching those kind of things because we dont know it. I guess that turkish audience also wants something new, something unknown. And Indian serials are something "new" for us. Like you guys want to know something about Turkey or turkish culture, its the same for us with India or Indian culture :)

Everything that is related to India is different for us. The music, the dances, the clothes... basically everything. Its also especially interesting, when you notice similarities between both countries or cultures.

I have noticed for example that Indian people care very much for guests, who visit them in their homes. Thats exactly the same in Turkey. We also care very much about guests. As Indian people, we also do serve "cay" and other Food7sweets etc. in order to welcome them and make them feel good. By the way guests in turkish mean "misafir" :D
So thats pretty similar in both countries. In Germany for example its not like that. German people do not care so much for their guests, as turkish or Indian people do.

Therefore I think its good that Indian serials are shown in Turkey. People get to know the other culture or at least start developing an interest for the other country and culture with its people. :)

Bidaai I never liked. IPKKND & Beintehha were good initially but like it always happens with Indian shows, they ruined it after a few episodes.

@bold: We have a very famous saying in India "Atithi devo bhava" which would translate to "guests are like God" So yes Indians are very welcoming of their guests. And while we do welcome our guests with tea the first thing offered is always water. I find it necessary to mention this here because when I was in Europe I was offered everything from coffee to wine but never a glass of water😆 at such times I missed India a lot when a glass would be before me as soon as I entered a restaurant or home😆

Actually Indians by nature are a very social people. A majority of us enjoy doing things together, be it with family, cousins or friends.

Its a bit funny how you totally 'forget' about the number three best known Turkish actress worldwide and the second best sold Turkish series worldwide. Respectively Hazal Kaya and Adini Feriha Koydum. This is especially funny since in India (and this is India Forums) is airing Feriha already for a third time! I respect that your lists are very personal choices but when you start mentioning those internationally acclaimed you cannot speak from personal preference. In that case it must be fact, like all these wonderfull facts you shared about Turkey and Turkish culture. And those lists are not facts at all. It is what you like to be fact.

Regarding popularity abroad Serenay, Asli, Berguzar nor Meryem can hold a candle to Beren, Tuba or Hazal. That does not mean they are lesser actresses but their series just were either not sold as much abroad or less popular. Hazal and Beren were in the three best sold series ever, Ask-i-memnu, Adini Feriha Koydum and Fatmagulun sucu ne. The same series that katapulted Kivanc, Engin and Cagatay to world fame. These are the series that got them on the most influential peoples list and on the international list as Turkish actors whose name is most recognized around the world.
Saying Kerem Bursin and Cagatay Ulusoy are mostly popular among young people is an assumption not based on facts. Looking at the statistics of videos made about Cagatay and Kerem, their fan base ranges between 11 and 80 with a peak in the 25 to 40 section. Also, especially since seref meselesi and Icerde, both actors gained enormously in popularity among male viewers also. The idea that these two were just popular among genc kizlar is because that is what media kept saying based on all the girls waiting for them outside set. Stupid media who do not realise that older fans just do not do such things but are fans nevertheless.

Fact is that Hazal Kaya, eventhough she did not act for a year is still hugely popular and always the one mentioned as possible partner to any actor stepping into a new project. I cannot understand why you totally ignored her. She is not someone who can slip your mind. You either love her or hate her but not forget about her.

@hoodyamer

Hey, thank you for your response. But I have never claimed that those lists are facts? Have I? If those lists would be facts, I would have named sources. But I actually didn't and I have never said, that those lists are "facts". Of course those lists are based upon my personal assumptions.
My personal view is that Hazal Kaya isn't that famous anymore in Turkey. There are actresses, which are more popular than her right now. At least that's the situation in Turkey. Of course that's just the way "I" see it. I don't say this is a fact. :)

Thank you guys. Sorry I didn't had much time to reply to your questions. I am really sorry for that..

Now coming to your questions...

@Sarun

Apart from Istanbul the most famous cities in Turkey are Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Mugla, Bursa, Gaziantep and Trabzon I would say. Especially Ankara, Izmir and Antalya are the most known cities in Turkey after Istanbul. Ankara is the capital of Turkey by the way. :)

Izmir you might already know through Fatmagul. Antalya and Mugla are famous holiday destinations. :)

@thelifediaries

Sorry, I don't understand your question. What do you mean by that? :/
